Non-Corruption Worlds

It seems like they can drop in artificial Corruption biomes, as evidenced by one appearing in my Crimson world from an enemy in the artificial Corruption I created. 68.0.125.61 23:33, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Chance

The drop chance can either be 1/4000 (0.00025), or 2/40 (0.025) as you stated second. Which one is the actual drop chance now? It would make the difference for the status of the most rare drop in the game (after slime staff if i recall correctly).

1/4000=0.00025=0.025% --0icke0 (talk) 22:41, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I've been farming it for about a week, but I just CANNOT get it! Any ideas? I've tried a battle potion, a water candle, and both together. Please help :(

I never got the Crimson Key Mold and yet I've been searching for one for 5 whole months and haven't found one! Collin lays terraria (talk) 11:23, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Surface or underground

Does this drop in the Underground Crimson as well?'

I believe that it ONLY drops in the Underground Crimson Michelangelo42 (talk) 15:59, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it drops in both the Crimson and Underground Crimson. At least the other molds seem to do (the Hallowed Key Mold on the surface). NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 20:46, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Actually, I just got my crimson mold in surface Crimson, so it doesn't matter, but underground still has faster spawn rate. (talk) 3:27, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Other biomes?

What drops in biomes such as forest, and others that are not listed as having their own key mold? Ocean biomes can drop anything. Does that apply to other unlisted biomes as well?

  • facepalm*. nothing drops in the ones that dont have anything designated for them to drop in. why did you even ask this question? Inwader4 (talk) 09:29, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Post-Plantera or not

Are key molds can be dropped after entering hardmode but before defeating plantera? Description on main page says, that it is droppable in hardmode, but is included in post plantera entities.

They're post-plantera only. I've clarified the page. Equazcion (talk) 21:25, 16 Jan 2015 (UTC)
They are post-WoF, not Plantera. I just got a mold on a fresh hardmode world, no mechs or plantera defeated. Sdkphoenix (talk) 03:50, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

From statues?

I have no idea if you can get molds from statues68.148.81.144 01:20, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Removal

I don't see why the mold was removed from the pc version. --Martingolding96 (talk) 18:25, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Because the keys are no longer crafted, they're just dropped directly. Presumably it'll be like this in all versions before long. If you're looking for a rationale for not keeping them in the game code as inaccessible items, though, I can't really say. Gearzein (talk) 04:10, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
I should of been clearer i don't see why the keys were made to drop instead of the molds. --Martingolding96 (talk) 16:59, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

the keys drop isntead of he molds because the devs realized that by needing an extra jungle key and all of the mech souls you need to go through so much extra hassle. how can you not see this? Inwader4 (talk) 09:32, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Stack of 9999

The new update that increased the stack limits to 9999 did not change the stack limit for the biome key molds because they didn't exist anymore when the update dropped. Is there a way to modify the stack limit in the infoboxes? Because I don't know how to. The Creeper Man (talk) 03:13, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing this out! Russ Guss Doodles (talk) 06:18, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
