spawning

there seem to be a lot of controvery about spawning / despawning. i will write here what i understand of the mechanism.

for me , there is no set number of dutchmen appearing during an invasion. to the contrary, i think the spawning is akin to any spawning in the game, it is made with a chance each frame, evaluated as a mean time between each spawn, that is randomized each invasion. the points to note:

  • it appears when it is between 50% and 100 % of the invasion. this we all knew.
  • it doesnt take any ennemy place. i m not sure, but i ve seen it spawning when i didnt kill any pirate, so killing them faster doesnt make it appear, quite the contrary.
  • for each wave, a spawn frequency is chosen. for some wavesn, it will be rare, to the point you may kill all pirates too fast , and not see one appear. for some waves, they appear one after another, and can be chain killed by the dozen.


so if you want to farm them, wait till a good invasion( one for which the dutchman spawn rate is high), and just stop killing any pirate after the 50% mark has passed. close your lava pits, call back your minions. from then, i suspect you can kill infinite dutchmen in a single invasion.

Damage and defense from the cannons ?

These informations are missing in the article. There are some weird events such as taking 369 damage with a solar armor and 110 defense when a ship is present. I have no clues why that happens. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.81.232.194 at 11:33, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

New Minecart drop

There's a new minecart called the Dutchman that drops rarely from this thing. Don't see it mentioned anywhere on the wiki. 24.33.228.212 14:16, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

we need a death animation gif

if the notes say that the flying Dutchman has a death animation we should show a gif of that. 122.60.45.6 17:38, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

It actually doesn't. The sail gores just behave differently from normal gores, drifting in the wind instead of falling to the ground rapidly. --172.58.172.43 17:39, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Drops

As far as I know drop chance of items from enemies spawned by the dutchman are different than enemies spawned naturally by the invasion 189.176.183.89 20:20, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Dutchman Disappearing

It seems that sometimes Flying Dutchman will disappear instantly after player hit them once, and shows the death animation. But it's still alive and invisible. Not quite sure whether I encountered the glitch listed in "Notes" section, as I was fighting the invasion in an open area and below Space level. Did someone encounter the same issue?BadPiggy1024 (talk) 07:56, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Cannons considered moving through walls?

I think it should be noted that while the Flying Dutchman can't fly through blocks, it seems that the cannons themselves are coded as if they can. What I mean is that they can be hit through blocks just like any enemy that passes through solid blocks (such as Ghosts, Pirate's Curse, Wraiths, etc), making them easy to take down even without a line of sight or through walls. If the weapon can reach it, it can damage it. Whips prove to be very effective for example (even more so with the Obsidian armor when bunkered down). Infinite Dutchmen

Each flying dutchman increases the progress bar at the bottom right corner of the screen. Therefore, it is not possible to kill an infinite amount after 50% of the event has been completed, only 10 (because each Dutchman kill increases the bar by 5%). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suomynona12 (talk • contribs) at 07:54, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
