May be worth noting that the Slime Staff and Frost Hydra Staff may be used in conjunction (since it was mentioned on the page it works with the Pygmy staff)
Removed the history item regarding the staff not dropping in 1.2.0.2. I verified that it still drops from slimes spawned from statues (I got 2 in ~1 hour).
Can it be reforged? Has anyone checked for this yet? 99.6.26.155 22:11, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Modifier
Most of the "Mythical" mods only affect the initial summoning, and minions cannot critically hit. The best possible modifier is therefore Ruthless, which deals extra damage with (virtually) no downside. I have updated the page to reflect this.
Wanted to add that this wiki page is incorrect about Ruthless and Mythical being the only modifiers that can raise the base damage to 9. I have the Hurtful modifier on mine (+12% damage) and it is now at 9 base damage. Smaboi (talk) 16:45, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Criticizing the shillelagh resemblance trivia
I think it's actually supposed to be a slimey, slightly rusty pipe, which makes more sense than the shillelagh and seems less of a stretch of the imagination. Also surprising that someone also said on the Raven Staff page that it looks like the slime staff. --65.3.65.15 05:56, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Slime Staff in the Mobile Version (IOS)
August 9, 2015: I also obtained this, only a few nights in from a zombie drop. It shows 0 critical but 10 mana cost, not sure if this is a "bug" but just thought it weird I got such a rare item, having played the PC port originally, so easily, and not even from a slime... just thought I'd add to the report that I obtained this using the current 1.2 mobile build :)
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but I just obtained a Slime Staff in the IOS version of Terraria. Don't believe me, here's proof:

- If you think it's anomalous, you should probably report it at the mobile bug support forums. Obtaining one in the mobile edition is entirely possible, though, so that's not really a bug. The display issues more likely are, but they might just be a quirk with the way summon weapons are read in mobile. Gearzein (talk) 17:34, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
