XNA Needed?

Server Hosting Help!

Hello I picker up Terraria the other day in the steam summer sale and I am hooked.

I have been playing solid for the last few days on a friends sever and decided that I would like to start using my own server for me and some other buddies.

I have tried to set up my own but failed miserably, there for i have decided to rent on a monthly basis instead.

I have had a look around the internet for prices and the best deals but i'm still pretty stumped. I found a huge price list on this site http://comparegamehosting.com/game/terraria/ but really dont have a clue who to go with if im totally honest I don't have a clue. It's my first server so i would like to get advise in order to avoid a bad first time.

Any advise would be a real help :)

You don't need to pay to set up a server! All you need is a good computer, a decent internet connection, and this guide. I just published a major rewrite for some of the more confusing portions of the guide to assist new server users. I had a lot of the same questions, as I'm not very saavy on this stuff, but I have put it into laymen's terms for most people to understand, (as long as you're using windows.) Raspberry Pi 1 & 2

So, I created an account to edit this out, but I'd rather not tread on toes and make a poorly written section on this.

I wrote a guide on Terraria dedicated servers, both official and TDSM, on Reddit! https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraria/comments/3i4lnu/guide_running_terraria_server_on_raspberry_pi_2/ The problem is, this guide really only covers the Pi 2 as that's the model I've got, and it's got way more processing power and RAM. I've seen told in other guides (though they were about outdated versions of both Mono and Terraria) that people could do it with the Pi 1 B and B+, but I'm not sure if that's still accurate what with the release of later versions of Mono and Terraria (which both use more RAM and processor resources now).

Should I just reformat this guide and put it up, for the Pi 2, and include some note about testing for the Pi 1 is requested, or... how can I do this to be awesome? Gedrean (talk) 04:21, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

I like this idea a lot as I run dedicated servers for my own and friends usage frequently. I am seeing that this page needs cleanup so I am going to begin working on that soon, so if you would go ahead and post it, I will help get things in order. Article cleanup

I'd like to begin reworking this page to separate Windows, Linux and other Operating Systems into their own sections. It's confusing enough to try and make sense of it, but when all content is jumbled together? Hard even for the IT guy like me to sort the info. Anyone have any objections before I have at it? Custom domain

Is there any way to set up a custom domain that forwards to the server IP?

Auto port-forward

When the server file is started there is an option to automatically forward the port. Does this work? I am not sure as I have tried it and is has not worked but it might be another problem.
