Administrator Noticeboard
The admin noticeboard is one way for users to notify administrators of issues requiring administrative attention. Users are also welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), but posting here can more reliably ensure that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond promptly. Remember to sign when posting an issue.
• Post only issues that require administrative action, e.g. blocking vandals, protecting pages, or restoring deleted pages.
• Do not post deletion requests here. Add delete to the top of the target page instead. In most cases, add the delete tag, rather than replacing the entire page content with it, so that administrators can easily verify that the content was deletable.
• Do not post issues here regarding content disputes. Try posting to the community noticeboard instead.
• Do not post requests to delete your wiki.gg account here; Terraria Wiki administrators cannot assist with that. Instead, create a ticket or contact wiki.gg on Discord.

Vandalism reports: Posting here should be a last resort. Revert first, as anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

Creating a new request – vandals
1. Edit the Vandal reports section
2. At the top of the list, use the IP address or username here template. Provide a short and neutral summary of the issue.
Creating a new request – non-vandal cases (e.g. user issues, page protection/undeletion, etc.)
1. Add a new section (+) to the page and enter an appropriate title (without using templates or links) in the subject field.
2. In the edit field, enter a short and neutral summary of the issue. Use the IP address or username here template to refer to users involved with the case and provide links to important pages or edits.
3. As a courtesy, also leave a message on the talk page of any involved user.

This isn't an urgent issue, but there is remaining vandalism in the revision history of Flying Dragon (and I suspect other pages may have as well). Please hide the rule-breaking edit summaries. — Lilysse (talkcontribs) 14:02, 22 September 2025 (UTC)

No, that was me. Sorry! I made a mistake in Module:Iteminfo, which is what automatically generates the stats. I reverted my edits and the stats should be back. If they're still missing on a page, purging the page should bring them back. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 03:07, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by No1igorfan (talkcontribs) at 03:11, 15 August 2025 (UTC)

Math broken

The math extension appears to be broken, for example this:

It is no longer fixed. MeowMeow123 (talk) 23:04, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
It still looks fine to me. What you see is the initial representation of the math expression. After you load a page, the JavaScript code provided by the extension comes in and converts it into the expected output. So one possible reason why it's not getting converted is that you have JavaScript disabled – make sure you haven't. Aside from that, clearing your browser cache is always worth a shot. If the math still doesn't look correct, please tell us what browser (and version) and operating system you're using. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:28, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
I cleared all of my browser cache and made sure that Javascript was on, it is still broken. I am using Microsoft Edge (126.0.2592.68 (Official build) (64-bit)) and Windows 10. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MeowMeow123 (talkcontribs) at 13:47, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Also I tried it on Google Chrome and it showed up correctly. MeowMeow123 (talk) 14:15, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Thanks for the info. Edge on Windows 10 displays it correctly for me, but now it briefly broke in Firefox (only for a few minutes or so). When you encounter the error again, try checking https://www.mathjax.org/#samples (MathJax is what powers the wiki's math extension). If the equations there look fine, then it's more likely the issue is on the wiki's side and not on your end. In that case you could try adding the code from the documentation to your common.js:

function waitForMathJax($content) {
if (typeof MathJax === 'undefined') {
setTimeout(function () { waitForMathJax($content); }, 1000);
} else {
MathJax.Hub.Queue(["Typeset", MathJax.Hub, $content[0]]).execute();
}
}

mw.hook('wikipage.content').add(waitForMathJax);

That should force a correct render after a couple of seconds at most.

--Rye Greenwood (talk) 02:22, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

It renders correctly now, but it would seem helpful to have that code run for everyone. MeowMeow123 (talk) 13:09, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Infoboxes changes request

I have some requests for item/npc infobox:

• item infobox
• On line 49, the variable's value is {{lcfirst:{}}}/{{lcfirst:{}}}}}. Due this, this makes some localization issues.
For example, infobox uses type = Armor/Set, and variable's value is armor/Set. When I need to define pagetype:@@@@ parameter on l10n subpage, it needs to define both pagetype:Set and pagetype:set for any cases where used type = Set too.
• Following to "Set", in Russian localization, words "Set" and "Loadout" are having same name (Комплект), so I need to define l10n parameter with namespace, for properly link (to Категория:Комплекты, not to Комплекты (page does not exist yet)). So, in , on line 92, can you add : for link ([[:)?
• npc infobox
• Unlike item infobox, this infobox has no abilities described above. There is also issue with localization.
In Russian localization, words "Spawner" (this type has the Mysterious Portal) and "Summoner" (non-formal class) are having same name (Призыватель), so we need to do same thing for properly link.
• General
• Is it possible to apply #formatnum function for displaying numeric values (for huge HP values, at least) and custom formats?
In R..., in-game numeric stats and descriptions (weapons damage, defense value, etc.) have additional ед. (единица(-ы); point(s)) postfix (10 damage → 10 ед. урона; by 5 → на 5 ед.)
• npc infobox
• Unlike item infobox, this infobox (and buff infobox too) has no lname-relative parameter to display English subname. I was talking about that a bit for a year ago on Wiki Discord, and thats it...
• buff infobox
• This infobox uses <infobox> tags rather customized <div> tags, which does not allow to change infobox's width.
• $subname just creates second title (for example, Beetle Endurance).
• Infoboxes that built by <infobox> tag
• Comparing with item/npc infobox, these infoboxes have different font.
• Sincerely, Horn772 (talk) 15:20, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the recommendations. The types in item infobox and npc infobox now all consistently have a lower-cased first letter, so typepage:set will be sufficient now. A category page as typepage works correctly now. npc infobox now also supports type text and link configuration via the /l10n subtemplate just like item infobox, so e.g. |type:critter=Friendly animal and |typepage:critter=Animal would change the "critter" display from Critter (the default) to Friendly animal (or just Friendly animal if the page Animal doesn't exist). Do note, however, that tr is and was supported for this, too – consider adding ["Spawner"] = "Spawner_ru_link_target", to the pagename section of your tr database in order to change the link translation of "Spawner" to "Spawner_ru_link_target" across the entire wiki.
I added the lname and showenglishname functionalities from item infobox to npc infobox. For both templates, I also moved the default setting for $showenglishname to the /l10n subtemplate (it used to be hardcoded for all languages in the template itself). Setting |showenglishname_default=yes/no there will enable/disable the functionality by default in all infobox transclusions. This is merely the default setting; it is still always possible to use |showenglishname=yes/no in an individual transclusion to override the default.
The <infobox> tag comes from the PortableInfobox extension. These infoboxes are a bit special and have a different style than our own infoboxes, but I'll see what I can do.
I'm not sure I understand your request regarding number formatting correctly. Do you wish to append the string единица/единицы to all numbers in the statistics table?
--Rye Greenwood (talk) 02:50, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, Rye!
About number formatting with additional strings. Probably not, the formatting is more prefer to use in descriptions/texts rather in tables/stats. I will try to notice about it later, when I will more to sure. Horn772 (talk) 06:38, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Seems these changes slightly broke infobox translude on Guide pages: instead displaying actual types, it displays "raw" (escaped) values (\{\{lcfirst:@@@\}\}. The similar thing happens with plural values where strings completely disappear (Projectile(s) created -> created; Inflicts Debuff(s) -> Inflicts; 5-10 seconds -> 5-10). Example: the Duke Fishron and his guide page. Horn772 (talk) 09:15, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Fixed. transclude infobox uses the "include" functionality of DPL (unless |selection=y is used) and it looks like DPL is not able to handle the <esc>...</esc> tags correctly (may be a bug, or maybe it's intended this way), which are necessary in the localization subtemplates for proper handling of plural cases or other things. Luckily the tags have an alternative syntax (e.g. \{\{ instead of <esc>{{</esc>; full documentation here) which DPL does accept. It's not the cleanest solution, unfortunately, but this replacement should work now (Template:Npc infobox/l10n diff, Template:Duration/l10n diff). Same thing for the "type" display in Template:Npc infobox (diff). --Rye Greenwood (talk) 04:57, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

NPC stats for different states in Hardmode

Some enemies changes their stats in different states (e.g., Giant Shelly, when rolling, increases its damage and defense). These values are manually expression via $damage2.

The problem is these values are relevant for pre-Hardmode only, and the npc infobox information may to confuse readers (actually, the Giant Shelly's damage does not decrease in rolling state during Hardmode).

I did an example of how it should to be look. — Horn772 (talk) 07:12, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

That's a good point, and your solution looks good already! I'd suggest not to invoke Module:Npcstat directly and not to use the dplvars, though; both should primarily be used internally as far as possible. You can actually simply extend the way it's done in the "current view" infobox with modes and npcinfo. I took the liberty to add a version to your sandbox to demonstrate it. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 01:59, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Page Freezing when Previewing

When I preview a page or section, it freezes the editing page (It is more common the less content is previewed), only allowing me to scroll the main scrollbar, however the page doesn't scroll. The freezing is accompanied by high CPU and memory usage, which is affected by the amount of content in the page, for example previewing a blank page consumes more memory and CPU then the page Mini Nuke. --MeowMeow123 (talk) 18:52, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

Modded content redirect pages

I just noticed that some redirect pages for modded content were created based on failed searches on Special:SearchDigest (see pages redirected to User:RubberCrowy/Mod Wiki redirect). Since there is currently no rules for redirect page creation, I wonder if this kind of redirect pages are necessary on the vanilla wiki, and I'd like to know other admin's opinion on this. My opinion is that vanilla wiki should not have redirects redirecting to specific modded contents, and only mod name redirects should be created (when necessary). BadPiggy1024 (talk) 04:33, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

I agree with you. Let's write this down in the wiki rules; I made a draft at Terraria Wiki talk:Rules#Rules regarding mod/server content. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 18:07, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Sortable arrows are hidden on npc infobox tables

Recently noticed that arrows for sortable table will be hidden on npc infobox tables after the page has fully loaded. Example: List of NPCs. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 06:36, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

Some kind of (probably virulent) redirection of the site to another page that is not this wiki.

Hello, I've been experiencing in a lot of pages of this site a redirection to another site without ever clicking on anything, and it tried to download things on my computer. I want you to know that there might be a hacker trying to put internet viruses or any kind of malware on our devices. Terrarian Assistant (talk) 18:15, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

What pages are you talking about? Can you provide an example of a page with such links? — BotAntony (discussion | user contributions) 18:22, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Pages such as Statues, Furniture, Light Sources, etc. I've been in a lot of pages to search for info and got redirected to other sites that have nothing to do with the Wiki. Most of them had pop-ups saying things like "Your computer has been infected by X viruses!" or something, and one of them even attempted to download something on my PC without asking. If I let my PC on and have any of these articles I mentioned open or any other, they will probably redirect me to these sites without my consent. It is now unsafe to use this Wiki unless something is done to prevent this. Terrarian Assistant (talk) 18:39, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
It looks like an issue on your side (I was not able to find any external links on these pages, not even legitimate ones). I would suggest to install antivirus or re-install your OS. — BotAntony (discussion | user contributions) 13:39, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

Ok, I'll send the links I find on my Browser history, click it on your own account.

~Redacted the links for safety Alex4401 (talk) 11:38, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

There's more than that, but I don't know the source. I hope this helps. Terrarian Assistant (talk) 17:24, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi, by any chance is it the Fandom wiki that's been redirecting you? We've seen a lot of similar reports of users who are using Fandom. If it's actually the wiki.gg wiki causing these redirects, could you provide us with the exact URLs you were on prior to being redirected? Thanks --RheingoldRiver (talk) 18:46, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
Hello, no, it wasn't on the Fandom, I always enter in the gg wiki. And about the URLs, there were a lot of them, but just to name a few, you could go to "Furniture", "Light Sources", "Statues", "Paintings", "NPCs", "Potions", "Platforms", "Crafting Materials", "Queen Bee", "Bee Wax", many, many others. I just didn't want to put the URLs because there can't be anything different from my URLs than yours, or can it? Terrarian Assistant (talk) 02:56, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
Forwarded to our ads partner. Alex4401 (talk) 11:26, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Just to confirm, you've been getting redirected only when logged out and never logged-in, correct? Alex4401 (talk) 19:27, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Yes, I have been redirected only when logged out. Terrarian Assistant (talk) 19:49, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Hi, I've heard back from our ad partner. Could you provide us a .HAR file? This is a capture of the network activity between your browser and wiki.gg + the ad network we're using; it was requested by our ad partner to help them locate the malicious campaign. Instructions on creating such a file can be found at https://support.google.com/admanager/answer/10358597?hl=en - please browse the wiki for a bit while logged out and "export HAR" when the redirection happens. You can send the file to me by email at [email protected] or via our support portal at https://indieio.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/3/group/14/create/17 . Sorry for the inconvenience Alex4401 (talk) 11:36, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
Received another notification that mitigations have been implemented, please let me know if you still see the redirections (the .HAR file will help if they continue to happen). In future if there's a new issue with ads please use the servicedesk link above and we'll investigate immediately (we don't monitor local noticeboards on wikis that often). I'll talk internally about making this process more accessible. Alex4401 (talk) 13:56, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
Hello, actually, it's been a few days since I am not being redirected now, sorry for not notifying you. So, now that I (think) am safe, maybe there's no need for this request of yours about a .HAR file? But if it is still needed, then I'll send it. Thanks for the help so far. Terrarian Assistant (talk) 16:17, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
Nope, the HAR is not needed in that case, glad to hear the redirections aren't happening anymore. Alex4401 (talk) 11:56, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

History title display bug

Title bug display.png

The Terraria Wiki now has a bug, and the title of versions in the History section will glitch if you're not logged in. Can any admin look further into this? -Rert (talk) 19:16, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

This bug should've been fixed by now. Can you purge the page and see if the bug is still here (select More > Purge cache or add ?action=purge to the URL)? — BotAntony (discussion | user contributions) 19:44, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
The versions are displayed correctly if you're logged in. It appears the problem is that logged-out users are shown older versions of pages that haven't been purged yet since my edit to Template:L10n. I edited Template:Icon-version/l10n just now which hopefully triggers a site-wide purge of pages that use the version templates, so that they're also updated for logged-out users. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 19:51, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Never mind, I'm running my bot to mass-purge the affected pages. It should be finished in a couple of minutes. If any pages with the broken version display remain, simply purging them will fix the error, like BotAntony said. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:20, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Small request/question from another wiki

Hello, hopefully this isn't out of place, and is the right place to ask.
I wanted to ask for permission/blessing to use your Style Guide as a basis to adapt for another wiki that we are working on (SULFUR Wiki.)

I'm working on overhauling our community and support documentation, to get ahead of expected increased traffic and new contributors in anticipation of some upcoming major game content releases. The Terraria Style Guide is particularly extensive and mature, so I wanted to use it as a starting point to help make sure we can adapt lessons and standards learned here, where applicable, to our relatively young wiki.

My intention, if this isn't a problem for the Terraria Community, is to use it as a broad template and reference document to write my own guide specific to our wiki, with yours as a reference point and framework.

Thanks for your attention and assistance, in either case! ToastNaut (talk) 23:48, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Sure thing, go ahead. Copying and improving on others' work is not uncommon at all, and sharing knowledge is the wiki way, after all.
As you mentioned, not everything from the Terraria Wiki's style guide will necessarily be applicable for other communities. If the SULFUR Wiki hasn't been up long enough for conventions and common practices to emerge, then you might want to emphasize that the style guide is not set in stone. That can give it room to evolve – just like Terraria's did.
Other than that, check out Category:Help; it has some similar "wiki-meta" pages that could also be of interest to you. Feel free to adapt what you need. Good luck!
--Rye Greenwood (talk) 21:01, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks very much, that's what I expected, but I felt it was polite to reach out first, in the case specifically of adapting a wiki policy/community page!
Your suggestion about emphasis, especially regarding established convention, and the process of developing and creating it is precisely what I have in mind, so it's helpful to hear that sentiment echoed.
We've been using experience some of our team has working on other wikis, and ones we're familiar with from using them as readers (in particular this one ;) ) for inspiration and practices other than style, such as how Terraria Wiki handles community and wiki projects in building our infrastructure.
Thanks again, and feel free to archive this request as per normal protocols here. :) ToastNaut (talk) 23:12, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
