    Request to be added

Hello. I am a long time player of Terraria Desktop, and I have much experience with it. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help update the wiki with new and changed items and features from the 1.4 update. I have already been working on updating the upcoming features with new information, and I would be glad to continue to quickly bring out accurate update information. Request to be added

Hi, I'd like to be added to the editors list. I've been helping around the wiki recently creating item pages, copyediting, and reporting vandalism. I play Desktop and have basic familiarity with the source code, so I can pull up information about item functionality, vendor sales, etc without too much trouble. On the wikicode side, I've learned how to use a good number of the standard templates+infoboxes and I'm hoping to pick up more through practice. You can check my contributions page to see where I've helped out, or contact me in the Discord under the same username. Cheers! Breathlessblizzard (talk) 22:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

    Request to be added

Hello! I'd like to be added to the editors list. I mostly play mobile, but can readily test pretty much anything on the Console version (latest version, Xbox One), and will sometimes be able to test some Desktop things. I'll hopefully be able to be editing a lot more actively, and am currently working to achieve consistency, especially with the flood of 1.4 articles. Thanks for your consideration! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 17:57, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi! I'd like to be added to the editor's list. I have (what I'd like to think) an extensive knowledge of most Terraria Desktop version mechanics, as well as features and content. I've joined pretty recently in order to help with 1.4 content additions, and I helped to start adding happiness quotes for the happiness quotes project to most NPCs, as well as preparing to start the DPS project (to find the average DPS of weapons). Thank you for reading, no hard feelings if I don't make it. DanZeMan (talk) 12:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, my name is Trialsphere, I am constant player of the game and have over 340 hours on Nintendo Switch. I know the game mechanics well, tend to recognize glitches fairly quickly when they pop up, and know most of the tips or tricks a player might need. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help add information that might have been missed on pages and help the terraria community as much as I can. I thank you for your time and consideration. I would like to be added to the editor's list. I have a switch so I can make contributions to the wiki based on switch related info, and I have good hours to check what needs to be done. Also, one more thing I have to say is that I visit pages often to see what needs to be updated or to see if anyone has vandalized it, and report it or change it. Otherwise I just want to help keep the wiki running smoothly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Triplefun1 (talkcontribs) at 19:32, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I'd like to be added to the editor's list. I have recently added content for the 1.4 update during its release on the old Fandom Wiki, and now have been adding info to wiki pages for 1.4.4. I have extensive knowledge of the game, been playing for the better part of 8 years, starting on Xbox 360 and now own the game on 4 platforms. I mainly edit pages with discoveries I make during gameplay. I'd love to help growing the wiki to make it more informative to newer and experienced players. Love to hear back! Hey, SonicCee here, recently I've been using the wiki a lot because I found my old 3DS, you can guess what game I played first. So as the most likely soul Terraria 3DS player I'd be happy to report glitches and such and edit some 3DS articles... ... you know, if you let me to — Preceding unsigned comment added by SonicCee (talkcontribs) at 20:05, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Update pages and item history sections don't match

I've noticed that with the lucky horseshoe giving luck when 1.4.4's page didn't show that, and I've noticed that with the Golden key and 1.1, where the history section says "Desktop 1.1: Increased chance of getting Golden Keys from Dungeon enemies (1/75 to 1/65) and from Pots (1/45 to 1/40).", but when I look in the 1.1 page I use the search page function and find nothing about that, and I'm sure it's present on many more pages. Version tabs

When I am reading the wiki I see a lot of places where the text references old gen, 3ds, or previous editions. It would probably be a challenging conversion, but I feel that the wiki would be a lot easier to navigate and use if you could opt to select the version you are using and only receive information about that edition. That way, you don't have to read through all of the outdated and irrelevant information. I noticed this would be useful in particular with the achievements list page. The list is extremely long, but that is in part because the old gen and 3ds versions all have their own artwork for most of the achievements and they often have completely separate achievements. That makes browsing the list a pain, and it made me wonder: Why even bother putting the old stuff in? The answer is, of course, because you can still play those versions. So my solution is clear: Separate the game versions so you only have to see what you need. Unless you want everything...

Programming wise, it might be possible to simply identify some paragraphs, sections, and pages as one edition, and simply not show them if you aren't in that tab.

Interface wise, there could be a tab at the top of a page listing the editions that you can select, like the difficulty tabs, to filter out the info you don't need. Ideally, this would carry on between pages, so you don't have to re-select it every time you change page. (I have the same problem with the difficulty tabs...)

    • I take intrest in this change, mainly cause I find 3 eicons for everything 1.3+ is quite cumbersome especially with version parity. Should there be a single current version icon instead, with the old icons used for the rare cases of device exclusive things in modern versions (such as frame counter existing on PC and Mobile but not Console) Kirby Baker (talk) 21:18, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

    Tipsy / Toilet Fishing

Also, I was reading through the fishing page and saw that the tipsy buff and sitting atop a toilet both increase your fishing power by 5. I have never tried either of these things, and so I can't confirm them, so I wanted to ask here. I do this because neither the tipsy page nor the toilet page mention this fishing power increase. Clearly either the fishing page is inaccurate or the other two pages are missing info.

    The "snow biome"

Hi, SonicCee here. I'd love it if we could come together as a community and come up with a better name for the snow biome, ya know, cause snow biome is a TERRIBLE name... It's a biome primarily made of snow, what more do you want? The Snow biome's name is perfectly fine as is. Also please include your signature as per wiki rules by using ~~~~ Cytra (talk) 16:15, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
It’s also basically the biomes official name since that’s what it’s called in the Bestiary. I agree that it sounds kinda dumb (calling it the Tundra would be much better) but you can’t really argue with an official name. Russ Guss Doodles (talk) 03:18, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

a few things that could be added as misc pages (i forgor how to make them)

well the only thing i can think of rn is a page for on startup/bootup, aka when you start up the game. reason for this is they added a new splash screen for the underworld since they added a tree for it. but then again thats probably all it'd be used for so uhh yea Someguyhelping (talk) 14:19, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

an idea for things relating to armour/vanity and dye

ok so this may be a bit tedious to code and put into every page but the idea is for every page of dye/general dye page. make it to where you can do something to be able to change whats on the Armor stand so its not only just silver Armor. would help people come up with vanity combos.

could also make it just a separate page tho. would still be tedious to code tho but it would people to find the right dye for what they want

tl;dr add either a page with an intractable armor stand or every dye page with the dummy

    Someguyhelping (talk) 14:45, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

That would take a lot of time as there would be the code for it to work, dye overlay sprites for lots of armor/accessories, and the animation for certain dyes, so I think it'll be too tedious to be added. Cytra (talk) 18:37, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

    Linking a Fandom wiki.

Hello, I just want to know if there is a template or anything that is used for linking a Fandom wiki. I want to link my user page from a Fandom wiki, as that is my main editing wiki and therefore will be the wiki I will link everything to. If not I will just use a regular external link. Actuator/Biome Key Mold inconsistency

I haven't played any terraria versions behind 1.4.0.1 at most, and I saw an inconsistency in the actuator article and the biome key mold article, where in the notes of the actuator article, it mentions something along the lines of "the ability to actuate temple blocks was removed due to the biome key mold being removed in 1.2", however in the biome key mold history, it says that the mold was added in 1.2.0.1, and the mold was removed in 1.3.1. I don't want to upset people due to my inexperience with old console/3DS versions, so I'd like someone to fact check it before the article is corrected. Meat grammarly (talk) 00:17, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Actuator and Biome key mold page disagreement

Joining the community sometime after 1.4, I have no personal experience with earlier game versions. In the actuator article, it notes that "Naturally occurring Lihzahrd Bricks cannot be actuated until Plantera has been defeated. This was originally possible by intention, because Biome Keys previously did not drop directly and required a Temple Key to craft. This was changed in 1.2 to remove the Biome Key Mold items, and in turn the need to consume Temple Keys." This obviously disagrees with the biome key mold's page saying that it was added in 1.2.1 (or 1.2.0.1, can't remember) and removed in 1.3.1. This could cause confusion for old-gen console/3DS players. I need someone who has played the versions fact check and fix the article Meat grammarly (talk) 15:50, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Thx, the article has been fixed Meat grammarly

    Editing the wiki.

I have not played the 3DS version, but I have played the Old Gen version, and I noticed a mistake on the Minions page under Summons. The Pygmy necklace item says that you can only buy it if you have defeated Plantera, are talking to the Witch Doctor in the Jungle, AND have the Pygmy staff item in your inventory. I played the Wii U version, and you need only to have defeated Plantera, and be in the Jungle whilst talking to the Witch Doctor. Could someone either change the inconsistency themselves or show me how to do it? TheOgSans (talk) 19:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

This is probably better suited for the talk page of said item, but are you just remembering this, or have you actively verified it? As in, did you play a while ago and are using your memory or have you been able to achieve this again? --AmsterWikis (talk) 20:27, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

    Item Stack Limit

A lot of items on the wiki have messed up stack limits (many of them being defaulted to 9999 when their actual stack size is much less). We need to fix all of these, since it's presenting false information. --AmsterWikis (talk) 04:40, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Can you give some examples? --Westgrass (talk) 04:56, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
:I just realized I was testing on the wrong version, sorry for the confusion. But should we keep stack sizes for other platforms? (e.g. the Work Bench says 9999 but on old gen and 3ds it's certainly lower) --AmsterWikis (talk) 16:11, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
We can. But they need to be added manually. See Bomb for example. -- Westgrass (talk) 17:25, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
Would this be a priority? I feel as though it's somewhat useful to know your version's max stack for any given item, but also not extremely critical information. Is this something to focus on? --AmsterWikis (talk) 03:11, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
The "History" section contains relevant change information, so I personally don't think it's a priority to list max stack values for current versions of all platforms in infoboxes. --Westgrass (talk) 10:57, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Suggestion: Creating a "Projectile" page to describe projectiles' mechanics and the 1000 projectile cap

Currently, the projectile cap mechanic is only stated on Projectile IDs, and this info is hard to find. There's also a common misunderstanding that Projectile NPCs are projectiles. Creating a page to explain projectiles' mechanics to clarify it could be necessary. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 15:46, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

I agree and have turned Projectiles into an article. I only included what I could think of off the top of my head; feel free to reword and restructure it. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 17:15, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

    Sorry

Many recipes for obtaining Items crafted from Shackle fail to mention how they can be bought by the merchant, e.g. magic cuffs and it's upgrades. This is a problem I can't solve because I am a regular user, and we all know those restrictions, so I need a higher-level user to edit that. Meat grammarly (talk) 14:55, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

What do you mean by "can be bought by the merchant"? Crafting recipes should only include items needed for crafting, instead of including how the item can be obtained. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 16:22, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

    Bruh why did this happen

The Zenith has 21 base ingredients, not 14 (Copper shortsword, enchanted sword, starfury, beekeeper, chlorophyte ore, hallowed bar, vine, jungle spore, stinger, Muramasa, obsidian, hellstone, evil ore, soul of m, soul of f, soul of s, broken hero sword, seedler, horseman's blade, influx waver, the 2 moon lord swords). Just pointing out that no one who has viewed that page before now has bothered to fix that. New event, feature, NPC, Vanity Pet enemies and ideas for all platforms of Terraria.

Firstly, PLZ ADD PUG VANITY PET. I thought of an idea for Terraria that involves a new mechanic. Let me explain from the beginning, These mysterious eggs will show up in the various biomes but only with an open space on both sides of the egg for enemies to spawn These eggs contain pets that are themed around the biome it spawns in. When a player finds an egg in their world, then they can click on the egg to start the event where new enemies are introduced called poachers which could use weapons such as guns or a harpoon like the one found in the goblin army event. These poachers will attack the player and will try to steal this egg if they interact with it. The egg could have only 5 times that an enemy could try to steal it before they were able to take it and then you wouldn't be able to get the egg or the pet. These pets abilities could be randomized( such as for a forest pet it could swoop in and heal your character for let's say 100 health after you took dealt a certain number a critical hits let say 25 and this ability would occur each time the condition was met) for each pet when you take it to a new NPC (can't think of a name) and once given to this NPC they would open the egg for you and you would get the pet that could be equipped in another slot in your inventory. Red and the rest of the terraria dev team would be able to add their own touch on this idea but i would dearly appreciate it if they were considered and looked at. I would also like to pay my respects to our greatly respected Leinfors. OmniCrownMagus (talk) 23:01, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Remove the trivia about the transgender flag on the gender change potion page

The page claims a "consensus" was reached, but provides no proof. It also prevents you from removing the line from the page. It isn't a transgender flag. It contains no white. This trivia only exists to force the trans agenda upon readers. It doesn't matter what a "consensus" has decided, it is quite obviously not supposed to be a trans flag, therefore it should be removed. Wikis are supposed to be democratic, and this decision seems extremely biased. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eesdesesesrdt (talkcontribs) at 03:23, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, this trivia has been amended following a comment from Re-Logic. I'd like to clear some things up, though:
    • Wikis are not supposed to be democratic. Quoting WP:NOTDEMOCRACY: "Wikipedia is not an experiment in democracy or any other political system. Its primary (though not exclusive) means of decision making and conflict resolution is editing and discussion leading to consensus—not voting." This applies not just to Wikipedia, but to the Terraria Wiki as well.
    • Consensus does matter. As explained in another policy on Wikipedia, WP:Consensus: "Decisions on Wikipedia are primarily made by consensus, which is accepted as the best method to achieve Wikipedia's goals [...]. Consensus on Wikipedia does not require unanimity (which is ideal but rarely achievable), nor is it the result of a vote." Again, this applies to the Terraria Wiki, too, of course.
    • There is no "agenda" being forced upon anyone. Please be aware that such a rhetoric actively harms trans people's everyday lives. The Wikipedia articles about Transphobia, Violence against transgender people, and Transgender inequality are good starting points to learn more about the tremendous real-life struggles they face.
Please also remember to sign your comments by adding four tildes (~~~~).

Bee Hive (biome) vs. Bee Hive (item)

Currently, the Bee Hive page is for the biome and Bee Hive (item) for the background object. Bee Hive traps have existed since 1.3.1 and only became craftable in 1.4.1, therefore I believe the page disambiguations should be switched. The "(item)" suffix does not fit.

I think [[Bee Hive]] for the now-in-item-form trap and [[Bee Hive (biome)]] for the biome is the correct way to assign these pages, similarly to Meteorite and Meteorite (biome). Any thoughts? SlabFoot20 (talk) 08:18, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Sounds reasonable to me. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 21:19, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
If I move them myself, will that cause any issues for certain templates like {{npc infobox}} (| environment) or {{item}}? Should I wait for an admin to make this decision? SlabFoot20 (talk) 16:45, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Good thinking, thanks for considering this! Please feel free to move the pages, though. {{item|Bee Hive}} already displays the trap/item because of File:Bee Hive.png being a redirect to File:Bee Hive (item).png. Existing {{item|Bee Hive (item)}} transclusions will keep working as expected as long as you keep Bee Hive (item) as a redirect.
For {{npc infobox}}, the two NPCs will need to have (biome) added to their environment, that's right (like the Meteor Head), and a small tweak in the template code (cate_environment) to strip this suffix in the output will be necessary, but that's not too urgent. The only other thing I can think of is {{recipes}}, but nothing should break there either. The result item in {{recipes|result=Bee Hive (item)}} will at first not be in boldface like it is now, but will instead be a redundant link, until we amend the {{recipes/register}} code in Recipes/Heavy Work Bench/register.
Of course the biome page is linked on various pages and in a navigational template, so these links will point to the wrong page initially. If you wanted to prevent this and ensure a completely seamless link transition, you could create Bee Hive (biome) as a redirect to Bee Hive now and change all those links before the move. I'd say it's completely fine to change them afterwards, though, since we're not talking about a super popular page like Zenith or Moon Lord, and the disambiguation links are in place, so it's no big deal to be linked to the wrong page for some time. Either way is fine by me.

    I appreciate the in-depth response, I'll see what I can do. SlabFoot20 (talk) 15:31, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Forking Unsupported Versions to their own Wiki

With the 3DS version officially becoming unavailable with the shutdown of the 3DS eShop, I thought it would be a good time to bring this (ambitious) idea up.

Another wiki which I edit a lot is the RuneScape wiki. One thing they do which I think the Terraria wiki could adopt is they have separate wikis for each distinct version of the game - a RuneScape 3 Wiki, Old School RuneScape wiki, and RuneScape Classic wiki. They're related, but ultimately distinct.

For the Terraria wiki, I would propose the following split into two wikis:

Terraria Wiki: - Anything that is "current" aka actively supported and planned for crossplay. -- Desktop -- Mobile -- Console -- Switch

Old School Terraria Wiki: - Anything that's been deprecated, is unavailable, or otherwise out of date. -- Old School Console -- Old School Mobile -- 3DS -- Stadia version (?) -- Windows Phone version (?)

I think this would be a good way to remove a lot of the confusing footnotes and versioning where the current versions and old versions conflict, and provide streamlined sources for modern and old-school players.

    Crossplatform

Hello, Can i ask if I can play with friend when i play game on pc on steam and they have Teraria on Ipad ?

    Better readability for stack limit?

In item infoboxes, the max stack limit is displayed as images if the stack parameter is not manually set. However the image for 9 (Stack digit 9.png) may be hard to recognize when resized (e.g. Piggy Bank). Also since we have the stack info display (e.g. Bomb), how about using text display for all max stack values? BadPiggy1024 (talk) 10:13, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Display hitbox width/height for items in item infobox

Currently, the "width" and "height" stats in Module:Iteminfo are unused. Since lava and shimmer uses these stats to determine their interaction with items, should they be displayed in item infoboxes? BadPiggy1024 (talk) 15:17, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Hm, do these stats have any other relevance apart from that? If not, and they're only useful for lava and shimmer, then it seems to me like we'd be adding information to the infoboxes that is almost always rather useless. In that case it would feel more like trivia, to be honest. An alternative solution could be to add a sortable table of all item sizes to the two articles (or, if this would be too huge of a table, perhaps a new list article?). --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:32, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
From a quick check of the source code these stats are also related to these things: whether dropped items can be combined with nearby items of the same type; whether dropped coins can be picked up by an enemy; whether items are attracted to the player (used to calculate pick up range), etc. I do agree these stats are rather useless for most of the players, though, as players usually only need these stats when building lava pools to burn items. Adding biome icons to info tables for more identifiability and readability

With the introduction of bestiary, we now have icons to represent certain biomes/events/conditions (JungleJungle, HalloweenHalloween, NighttimeNighttime, etc.). Since the {{Living preferences}} already uses similar links and we have {{moons}} for moon phase displays, should we expand this to all informational tables (like {{shop}}, the "Area" column on "Music Boxes", the Accessory table on "Defense", etc.) and the Biomes page itself (e.g. in section titles) to provide visual assistance among long textual contents?

    Here are some examples:

  • Inventory
    Item Cost Availability

CauldronCauldron 1 GC50 SC During HalloweenHalloween.
Tiki TotemTiki Totem 2 PC During HardmodeHardmode, in the JungleJungle biome.
Purification PowderPurification Powder 75 CC While not during a Blood MoonBlood Moon, and not in a Don't dig up(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or Get fixed boi(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) world.
Vile PowderVile Powder 1 SC During a Blood MoonBlood Moon in a The CorruptionCorrupt world, and not in a Don't dig up(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or Get fixed boi(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) world.

    7 (during the nighttimenighttime)
Frozen Turtle ShellFrozen Turtle Shell (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 30 (when below 25% health)
  • The idea is simple, but there are some issues: style guide discourages usages of {{item}} in lines, and from the examples above it seems that this does causes some sort of cluttering icons; replacing basic links with icon'd ones would require tedious work/affect many pages.

I'd like to know the opinions of other editors and admins. Is this viable/doable? BadPiggy1024 (talk) 06:46, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

    Translation

Most of the templates supports i18n, so you only need to translate the content of pages. You may be interested in reading these pages: Translation projects and Localization of templates. It seems to be fixed now; the page for Flesh Knuckles used to read "They increase the player's defense by 0 and aggro by ." Persent101 (talk) 02:59, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
The problem was occurring due some chanfes in item's DB. I guess it used to be displaying differently on desktop and mobile because browsers store cached versions of pages. — BotAntony (talk | contrib) 07:09, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Old-Gen and 3DS are history. Can we PLEASE treat them that way?

Something's been bothering me every time I visit the wiki. Visit a page, and there's a good chance it will be utterly slathered with unhelpful and downright misleading information from an 8-year-old discontinued version of the game. Pages are lined with cryptic icons that make no sense to the casual wiki-goer. Weapon stat boxes and crafting pages are filled with an eye-straining and unreadable hodgepodge of icons and numbers.

This is, of course, because of the Old-gen console version Old-gen console and 3DSNintendo 3DS version versions of the game. For reference, these versions are:

3DS Version- last updated 8 years ago. No longer available to download.
Wii U Version- last updated 8 years ago. No longer available to download.
PSVITA Version- last updated 8 years ago. No longer available to download.
XBOX 360 Version- last updated 8 years ago. Starting this summer, will no longer be available to download.
PS3 Version- last updated 8 years ago. Can still be downloaded on the legacy store (wow!)

How come these old and archaic console versions get to occupy SO MUCH real estate on every page? Here's some examples:

Exhibit A. I counted 152 icons in this infobox alone.
Exhibit B. Over half the page is filled with legacy crafting recipes.
Exhibit C. Confused players are a common sight.

A wiki should, of course, be informative. I'm not suggesting running through every page and stripping all legacy information. But the wiki should also be concise. We have a HISTORY section for a reason. It's for HISTORY, and it's tucked nicely at the bottom of the page where it won't mislead or confuse hapless wiki-goers.

You could make the case that "well, what if a player is stuck with an old-gen console? where will they get information?". This is an argument that's inconsistent with even itself. Why do some versions get this treatment, and some don't? My old tablet has Terraria and is also too old to get updates. Should we go and add the "Unavailable on Old Gen iPad 1.03233" header to every single page?

No, we shouldn't. Because not every individual historical version needs its data listed on the main section. Go look at the Minecraft Wiki, and see how they handle historical versions. Here's a hint; they don't have their Minecraft 3DS information on full-frontal display.

This is an active wiki. This is still a game that is played actively. Players come here to use the wiki on a daily basis, and I'll harbor a guess that they AREN'T looking for information on the 8-year-old discontinued versions of Terraria. So, PLEASE, make the wiki concise and readable again. Cut down on the icon clutter. Cut down on the verbal spaghetti. Put the current versions on the current pages, and the legacy versions on the legacy pages.

I'm not on the Discord server, so my apologies if this has already been discussed there. I hope something is able to change.

There are also two options discussed above. They're good ideas too. Have a look at them. Thank you. --KM100 (talk) 20:13, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Maybe we can put all legacy info into a "Legacy" or "Old" section for each page and make it is collapsed by default? Or we can make a "legacy" tempalte to collapse legacy info. --Westgrass (talk) 15:39, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
I've been thinking about going a step further and moving that content to a separate namespace (something like "Legacy:Hallowed armor"). I think that would make things easier on the technical side ("never store to cargo in this namespace" being one of many examples) and I guess splitting content into multiple pages is always beneficial for performance as well. I quite like the boxes that Wikipedia uses (like for the link to Wikiquote here: Terraria#External links), perhaps we could add similar boxes at the top of the History sections for linking to the other namespace (quick mock-up: User:Rye Greenwood/Sandbox16#History). This does mean that the old-gen info will always be another click away, but I suppose there's no way around that with any of the possible solutions (outside of an entire separate, dedicated wiki). --Rye Greenwood (talk) 23:47, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
The new Legacy NS soluction is a bit unfriendly for old-gen console and/or 3ds exclusived items/npcs, since they will not have a page entity in main NS. Other than that, the rest of it is great. --Westgrass (talk) 02:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
I don't quite follow; wouldn't that be solved by just creating mainspace redirects to those exclusive pages in the new namespace? Or is it a different issue that you see? --Rye Greenwood (talk) 11:28, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Oh, yes, redirects work. I forgot that. --Westgrass (talk) 16:00, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
For now, I'd agree with separate namespaces. I made a quick mockup of a collapsable menu, and it's a bit unwieldy. An old-gen console user would have to scroll down to see what's exclusive to old-gen (like appearance), and scroll back up to see what's not exclusive (like method of obtaining). The menu makes it cleaner for modern users, but it's not very helpful to old-gen users. --KM100 (talk) 05:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
This is exactly how I envisioned the presentation. The content in the box can be loaded from a seperated page in another NS. --Westgrass (talk) 07:45, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
I share your opinion that it's not that user-friendly to have only all the differences in a separate location. What I had in mind was actually having all of the info separated, so essentially like two wikis. For instance, the page about Hallowed armor in the other namespace (Legacy:Hallowed armor, Old:Hallowed armor, Old-gen:Hallowed armor, ...) would be complete and analogous to the normal version, just without the modern-specific content; something like this: User:Rye Greenwood/Sandbox8.--Rye Greenwood (talk) 01:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Of course, a new wiki would be ideal, but I do have worries about the maintainability of such a place. Even back in 2016, the Mobile and Console sections of the wiki were notoriously understaffed. It's a small audience, and it'll just keep getting smaller. At least for a while, separate namespaces would keep the content in a more cohesive bundle, reduce the strain of duplicate information, and still also keep it under one roof. Plus, if there's a push for a new wiki in the future, it'd be make it easier to migrate than the current wiki situation is. --KM100 (talk) 05:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
The main problem about a new wiki is that it is a horror for SEO. --Westgrass (talk) 07:45, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
In my opinion, the best way to avoid such reading confusion and the excess of icons on pages would be to have two tabulations for Current (Desktop, Console, Mobile, "Switch") and Old versions (3DS, Old-gen) at the top of every page that would filter out what content is displayed. I don't know what would be the best to properly load the Old version page maybe by storing it on another subpage to save resources.
I'm thinking of it as a global variable, such as how Template:Lang is handled all over wikis, the selected version would be kept through sessions and accounts. All templates/modules could be concerned, that way, histories, recipes, infoboxes, and anything else could be accurate.
    However, I'm aware it's a tedious task. Dinoxel (talk) 21:32, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Split content into two pages for "main" and "legacy" will be much better for SEO. The spiders of search engine do not know how to use those tabs. 2 separate pages will be much clearer for search engine. --Westgrass (talk) 16:07, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
