Drop chance estimation

I've had two pirate invasions, and have two discount cards. Either I'm really lucky or the 16-17 invasions is an overestimate. 184.12.246.191 04:08, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Current Estimate Source?

This feels kind of like necromancy, but I think it might help to discuss. How was that 16-17 invasion estimate calculated?

I am asking because it seems like quite the overestimate. Just using the 1/2000 chance it should take 11-12.

We can calculate this by finding the chance that it doesn't happen and seeing the average number of pirates killed to reach a 50/50 chance of having at least one discount card.

.5=(1-.0005)^x

log_.9995(.5)=x

x=1386 pirates on average (1386/120 is about 11.5 invasions)

This isn't even including the Dutchman chance which should bring it up by at least 1 invasion. The only way I could imagine the page estimate was discovered is through actual testing and a small sample size of like 100 invasions. Jukedragh (talk) 09:11, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
