I tried this in a small sized world at below 4 ft, they did not grow. Maybe it is map dependant? It does work at the level where the underground music starts. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.128.91.194 (talk).

My mushroom grass doesn't seem to want to spread above "50 below". Not sure if this is the limit or if I've just picked a bad spot somehow. - Mirality 11:04, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

It took me FOREVER to finally get the seeds, but my farm grew really well starting at -6ft and below.. I made horizontal rows with 3 blocks between the rows. I also made sure that no other light was in the room and it spread really fast. --MysteriousAndrea 00:56, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Optimal lighting

Can anyone definitively confirm or deny that additional lighting has an effect upon mushroom gras or Glowing Mushroom growth? -- Rhombus (T♦C) 23:22, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Above Ground vs. Underground

I think it's safe to say that mushroom grass seed DOES grow faster above ground than underground. Observe:

You can see the dirt line where it goes to underground. The grass seeds were all planted at the same time, and, as you can see, the above ground seed spread like wildfire while the underground seed is taking its sweet time.

Mushroom Grass Seeds are NOT a material.

Why does it say you can use them to make purple dye? This is simply not true. You can't even place it in the Guide's menu. I'd edit it out myself but it won't let me. - 71.90.44.109 05:01, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Mushroom grass seeds are a material on the console version, just no the PC.
