This article, while well written, is so small that I'd say we merge it - along with all the rest of the biome pages - into the overarching Environment page. MarekkPie 14:58, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

v 1.0.3 Update, very few spawns.

This was my first time in the Underworld, so I'm not sure, but the amount of spawns I got was ridiculously low. I mined like 600 Hellstone in plain view (no tunnel shaft or anything fancy), and got a total of 1 Bone Serpent, and 2 Fire Imps. The Underworld was described as "Unrelenting", so I expected more enemies. Was it a one-shot fluke, or did v1.0.3 drastically tone down the spawns? happypal (talk • contribs) 20:25, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

The spawn mechanics can be abused unintentionally. Fire imps only spawn in a 2x4 open area, and note that the bottom two requires a flat surface. "Unrelenting" is a little harsh. And Bone Serpents spawn slow by any measure. The underworld is much less dangerous than it's cracked up to be, unless you fall into lava. --Theothersteve7 20:31, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, increasing your screen resolution (which I assume you did, and which became available with 1.0.3) reduces spawn rate tremendously. See the list of known bugs. --178.141.117.237 20:57, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

I get a crazy high amount of Hellbat spawns... I'll have anywhere between 3 to 8 on my screen at most times, with an imp, demon, or a couple lava slimes nailing me while the Hellbats harass. If I'm really unlucky, I'll get a Bone Serpent to tear me up while I'm preoccupied with Hellbats :( Raoucus 12:14, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Water Does Not Evaporate (Bug Or Intention?)

I'm a fairly new Terraria player, so I'm still learning a lot. I recently reached the Underworld, and there was a giant underground lake that was draining into my 2x2 Hellevator, so it started funneling into the Underworld. While I will admit the volume of water was lessened, it did not evaporate or disappear like the wiki makes it sound.

A little bit of the water was able to make contact with a nearby lava lake, thus forming a few blocks of Obsidian in the very corner (but much of the lake is still exposed). I'm sure if I were to increase the size of my Hellevator to 3x3 or 4x4 I could create a small lake of water on top of that first lava lake with increased water volume. The lake that is draining water into my Hellevator is very big, and expansive horizontally, so it's not even getting smaller while draining.

I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. The way the wiki describes it, sounds to me like "all water should disappear upon reaching the underworld", although I may be misinterpreting.

Only water that is in the underworld will disappear. The underworld's heat won't affect the water up above. Additionally, if a body of water is too deep, draining it from the bottom will not have an affect. It is likely a side effect of how the game handles water movement, and may or may not be a bug. If you want to get rid of the lake, you could try draining it closer to the top, instead of from the bottom. --GauHelldragon 12:38, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, then there's something wrong here, because I have two lakes of cold blue water sitting in the underworld right now, bahahahaha. And I opened up my Hellevator from two blocks to four blocks across. I drained all of the water, but now it's in the underworld :) Raoucus 15:52, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Water evaporation was implemented in 1.0.5. I thought that was the general understanding (it even says so on this article's very page).Raoucus 16:30, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah right. I haven't played around with the water evaporation too much. I think it will start evaporating if you try digging around near the water. --GauHelldragon 19:05, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

You can bring 50 pieces of Meteorite to the Underworld and replace natural spawn.

Hello--I'm trying to figure out what this statement means: "You can bring 50 pieces of Meteorite to the Underworld and replace natural spawn."--98.243.212.82 20:41, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Basically, you place 50 Meteorite Blocks somewhere in the Underworld, and Meteor Heads will start spawning around it instead of the usual Underworld monsters. --Lunboks 21:41, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Burning

Should we mention if you touch the ground in the underworld you'll start losing health?

The biomes that can be close as drops

Lava bat and red devil spawn

I editted the red devil and lava bat spawning requirements in the content table, as "after hardmode" is not an accurate descriptor (hardmode is not required at all, as is indicated in the subsequent section). also happened to me in one of my non-hardmode worlds after spawning a hardmode boss.
