Peace Candles extra icons

Due to item links' scripts, they have extra icons on their crafting recipes. Anyone know how to make it one icon, but with parenthesis around it? Awesome_Diamonds 20:32, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Water Candles

is anyone concerned that water candles and regular candles use the same trait? they are both unaffected by water according to the light source list, however i think if you have water the water candles effect can work on any flat surface item its ontop of, but the flame on the regular candle will sizzle underwater making it less bright than the water candle and wont show the flame / flame particles, who agrees to let the water candles true name be heard?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.20.242.10 (talk) at 18:08, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

water candles I.E. waterproof when in hand

we all know that reguar candles can act as torches since they 1: relate to the same family 2: are basically torches on refined gold metal pieces, sure your charector wont be able to take normal candles into the depths, but has anyone considered of making water candles 100% water proof, even when held? and they increase the spawn rate if in water, and on a thing like a platforrm underwater? i ask you, if water candles appear in the dungeon, then let their true pottential be heard n 1.1! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.20.242.10 (talk) at 18:12, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Honey Candles

As of 1.2.4.1 Honey Candles cannot be made with honey blocks and torches. Has the recipe changed or has it been removed? (giving torches or honey blocks to the guide for crafting guidelines do not show a recipe for honey candles.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.219.30.244 at 07:43, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

The changelog for Honey Dispenser Recipes shows that the Honey Candle (and some other things) were added the 14th of May. As 1.2.4 was released the 8th I guess that means it's a 1.2.4-item. As such, the recipe hasn't been changed nor removed, it was simply bugged from the start. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 14:54, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Amazing what simple things can break. And after months this still hasn't been fixed. I'm using an editor now to add the candle (and throwing away the mats afterwards). --87.144.11.253 16:51, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Candle Recipe

Can somebody put in the normal candle recipe? --67.232.62.175 00:05, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Sure, thank you for pointing it out! A simple typo prevented the recipe from showing up. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:14, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Doesn't the Water Candle boost spawns by 25%?

In the game's source code, an active water candle multiples spawnRate by 0.75. Wouldn't this be equivalent to a 25% boost, or does the game use this spawnRate variable in an unintuitive way? What's the 33% number based on? If nobody has a reason, Also, having an active water candle while in space simply multiplies it by 0.5 in addition to the normal buff, so the numbers should be a +25% boost normally, and a +150% boost while in space, right? I think this should be changed, unless anyone with an understanding of the source code knows otherwise.

It's not entirely intuitive, I suppose: The actual spawn rate is 1 divided by the spawnRate variable. For example, the default spawn rate (surface Forest, daytime, pre-Hardmode, no events, etc.) is 1/600 – the Main.defaultSpawnRate is 600. With this in mind, when you multiply the denominator of the spawn rate by 0.75, you're multiplying the entire fraction by 1/0.75 (so to speak; this is not a mathematically accurate fraction of course) or 1.3333... (which is equivalent to approximately 133%, i.e. a +33% boost).
Let's take the default spawn rate as an example: Without a Water Candle, it's 600. The candle multiplies this by 0.75, so you get 450. The original spawn rate of 1/600 was increased to 1/450 and that is a [math]\displaystyle{ \frac{1}{450}\div\frac{1}{600} = \frac{4}{3} \approx 133.33\% = +33.33\% }[/math] increase.
Regarding your second point: Correct, the space multiplier is applied on top of the normal increase, but only if no Peace Candle is in effect. Without a Peace Candle, the factor is [math]\displaystyle{ 0.75 * 0.5 = 0.375 }[/math], which is equivalent to an effective spawn rate multiplier of 2.6666... or approximately a +166.67% increase. With a Peace Candle in effect, the factor is simply 0.5, equivalent to an effective multiplier of 2 or a +100% increase.
I hope this makes things clearer for you. There are a lot more details to take into consideration, such as the constant flooring of all multiplication products or the capping of spawn rates; you can read up on those on the NPC spawning page if you're interested.

This was an excellent breakdown. Thank you so much! My brain sees 1/600 and 1/450 and thinks "oh, the denominator of that 2nd fraction is one fourth smaller, so the chance must be a fourth more likely," but now I realize that that math doesn't makes sense. This is very well articulated, and totally clears up the matter for me. I'm amazed at the dedication of this community to get a response to this so quickly. Thank you!
