Possible reference to the FIM-92 Stinger?

Could the Stynger possibly be a reference to the FIM-92 Stinger? (The Stynger and the FIM-92 have in common that they are both rocket launchers that, well, launch rockets (aside from the similarity in their names). These however are the only similarities I can think of, as the stinger appears to fire cluster-type ammunition, while the FIM-92 fires infrared-homing ground-to-air missiles (additionaly, the Stynger appears to be type of rocket pod, while the FIM-92 is a „single-shot“ type weapon.)
