I realize that some of this is covered in guides, for now I'm just trying to collect my thoughts

Before we begin, I would like to point out:

  1. This is the Official Wiki for the Desktop version of Terraria (console, mobile, and 3DS users, we are making every effort to include information for all platforms).
What does official mean? If you visit the Terraria website and click on the WIKI tab at the top of the screen, it will bring you to this wiki.
  2. All information in the wiki is for the vanilla version of the game, as experienced through normal gameplay. Items obtained through mods, hacks, or inventory editors are not included (or may be listed as "unobtainable").
  3. Because players depend on us to provide them with accurate information, we have a number of very diligent editors who examine edits for accuracy.
  4. This is an "open" wiki, in which anybody can make edits. Any edit you make may be changed or reverted by another editor. Please do not take this personally. If you feel your edit was wrongfully reverted, please use the Discussion page to make your case.
  5. There is no physical connection between this wiki and your Terraria game. If you alter the wiki hoping it will affect your game, you will be most disappointed.

Now for the rules and other light reading:

Rules Before doing any editing, please acquaint yourself with the rules.
Help/Welcome Here you'll find a short welcome, with a list of where to look for editing help. If you wish to jump right into editing, feel free to do so. However, there is some pretty good information on this page.

Most of the help we get is in these areas:

Spelling and grammar This is where we need the most help. If it is spelled wrong, please fix it. Note: We use North American English on the wiki (e.g., armor (not armour)).
Undo vandalism We need editors to look through Recent changes, and undo vandalism.
Item availability If you have access to an item which the wiki says you should not, we need to know EXACTLY how you obtained the item, which platform you are using, which version of the game you were running, and when you obtained it. Do not use information from youtube videos, as these are not reliable sources. Only items obtained through normal gameplay may be listed as obtainable.
Tips Please read the tips already given. If another editor has already written the tip you wish to add, you may expand on it, but please try not to duplicate tips.
Trivia Real-life associations and links are welcome. In these cases, please use a [[wikipedia:item name|item name]] link. References to other games and pop culture need to be confirmed by a developer. Please include a link to the developer's confirmation. Please realize that just because something looks similar, it doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Bug reporting In general, it is not a good idea to report bugs on the wiki. The developers don't look for bug reports here. Please report all bugs on the forums. If you have found a bug that is substantial enough to alter your gameplay, you may report it here. When at all possible, please include a link to your Bug Report in the forums. However, if our editors cannot duplicate your bug, or feel it isn't a game-changer, it will most likely be removed from the wiki.
Weapon stats If you feel the wiki is wrong, please remove all armor and accessories before checking the stats of your weapon. Also, modifiers can change the stats of weapons and accessories.
Buy/Sell values Understand that the modifiers of weapons and accessories will affect the Sell value, and a Discount Card in your inventory will reduce the Buy value.
Guides We have a number of guides you may wish to contribute to as well.
Translate If you are fluent in another language, please consider joining our Language Project. A number of editors are translating the wiki into other languages.
Code checking The desktop version of the game can be decompiled, and item stats can be looked up in the source code, within "Item.cs".

Console, Mobile, and 3DS users:

We have been expanding our wiki to include all platforms. We could truly use your help. We have access to the source code for desktop, but not for other platforms. If you can contribute in any way, it would be most appreciated.

Thank you! We could not have come this far without our editors!
