HI!

And thanks! You wouldn't believe how happy I am to see you..... -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 21:28, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Er, I don't actually have the game yet (waiting for a steam sale), but I figured I'd stop by every now and then and should have an account. --JonTheMon 21:33, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I knew your name rang a bell. Hello from the Demigod wiki. I hope you'll stay. happypal (talk • contribs) 17:40, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh Demigod, doomed by network issues. Generally, I stay around wikis as long as I play the game. --JonTheMon 21:24, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Lol, yeah, amongst other problems... I think every one left the game. The Demigod wiki was abandoned and is in shambles :( happypal (talk • contribs) 22:21, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

But i didnt greif the wiki D: -Anoymonus user that you told to not vandilize the wiki when he only just edited the raritys to contain the purple rarity which does exist look at the flamethrower

psssssst....

MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 22:41, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

They're not really repeating much... --JonTheMon 22:46, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorry. You can add it back. I think I accidentally removed it. I tried to fix it back but I guess I failed lol.

Re Welcome

Welcome to the admin team! happypal (talk • contribs) 11:09, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

A late thank you for the welcome. Glad to be a little bit useful 'round here. --JonTheMon 14:16, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Defense

Defense is not the same as damage reduction. Damage reduction = defense/2 rounded up. --KoreRekon 19:03, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Isn't that only for PvP? --JonTheMon 20:28, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Good catch, there's an error in the PVP guide (I'll get it). In PVP attack values are doubled. Defense is _always_ halved. --Theothersteve7 21:58, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't know anything about PvP, but it works like that when monsters attack players and vice versa. It's easy to test, let a slime attack you naked, then with just shackle, then just obsidian skull. They'll both have a damage reduction of 1. I can also send you the source code chunk where it lists monsters stats (won't post due to copyright). --KoreRekon 10:05, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Abuse Filter

Does it keep a log of why it blocks someone? I saw the evolution block, and the name indeed did not match the usual bot names, but without an edit history, or log, how can we know? happypal (talk • contribs) 13:13, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

It does. Go to Special:AbuseFilter and to the right of each filter there is a "X hits" link. That will give you the log. --JonTheMon 13:37, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Saw it, thanks. happypal (talk • contribs) 13:46, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Moving Pages

Several item image pages need to be moved so that templates handle them correctly. Is that something only mods can do? If so I'll just keep marking them. --Theothersteve7 20:22, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Some of the images can stay as they are for now; it's just a consistency issue. the images that have to be changed are ones that are used in the crafting infobox. --JonTheMon 20:26, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

thank you

for the divider on the future updates page. really appreciated and i couldn't figure out how. 96.13.55.109 17:36, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Template help (again)

Sorry to bother you again, but I'm wondering why Template:Weapons row doesn't work in User:iLiaWneK/Sandbox. Thanks in advance.  • iLiaWneK • T • C 14:50, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

The problem is that you are trying to use a "table pipe" inside a wikiparser expresion. Because | is actually a control character, you can't use it inside a parser expression. You can "cheat" the system with template:!, template:!- and template:!!. happypal (talk • contribs) 20:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
PS: You can avoid the problem altogether by moving outside of the switch that which has no reason to be inside the switch to begin with ;) happypal (talk • contribs) 20:35, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
PPS: Since these templates will only have a use for that page only, you could consider "scoping" the template: IE: List of items and it's personal template List of items/row. happypal (talk • contribs) 20:38, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the help! It works just the way I was hoping for. Also, I've intentionally made it a "global" template because I'd imagine that the number of weapons in the game would just keep growing. This would mean a page like Flail List, or Sword List would be more useful than it would be at the moment. I also noticed that you left out the {{weapons top}} template from your latest revision of User:iLiaWneK/Sandbox. Was this intentional? Anyway, thanks again!  • iLiaWneK • T • C 10:10, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Drops infobox

Thanks for the fix. I had assumed it was protected so I didn't attempt that myself. This'll definitely make things easier. Equazcion (talk) 15:52, 12 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Even if it was protected, you could have made a test template to make such a change or asked if it was a feature that should be added. --JonTheMon 16:23, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

New biome style

Thanks for the offer :) The page where you left that comment can be deleted, I abandoned that method.

Check out User:Equazcion/sandbox2 for the result.

New templates (to be moved/renamed accordingly if put into 'production'):

  • Template:Biome2 - The new Biome template, to replace Template:Biome
  • Template:Item link2 - An additional version of Template:Item link to coexist with the original. The same except it doesn't produce link text, only an image link. This would be used in the Biome template, in the "dropped from" columns, instead of the original.

The following are used to fill the |monsters, |treasures, and |drop parameters in Template:Biome2:

  • Template:Biome monsters
  • Template:Biome treasures
  • Template:Biome drop

Let me know what you think, or if you have any questions. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 00:51, 13 Aug 2011 (UTC)

I'm not really very thrilled with this approach. It's too template heavy for most average users to be comfortable, I believe the way the Environment pages are done now is preferrable. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 00:56, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
It only involves one additional template tag each for the parameters, and it eliminates the need to enter line breaks for each item. In terms of how much text there is to type, and worrying about formatting, there's actually less of each. Equazcion (talk) 01:00, 13 Aug 2011 (UTC)
That still leaves the fact that it's ugly and with the text made as small as you have made it, it is also difficult to read. Why are you trying to move all of the content of the page into a box? There needs to be a separate page section for each of your "headings" that can be easily read, and understood by the average visitor, as well as easily edited as changes occur in the game. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 01:21, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
It was all already in a box. I took the existing box and changed some styles, that's all. Beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder and I would like to get a broader opinion. The text sizing was unintentional and can be made a bit larger without screwing things up. Equazcion (talk) 01:31, 13 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Math on Minishark

You changed the yield from a 250-bullet stack to 375, which would equal a 125-shot gain -- which is 50% of 250, rather than 33%. Equazcion (talk) 17:11, 15 Aug 2011 (UTC)

It's not a straight 1/3 gain, it's you gain 1/3 of the first stack, then 1/3 of that stack, then 1/3 of that stack.... so, 250 + 83 + 28 + 9 + .... eventually ends up with 375 --JonTheMon 17:14, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I guess that sounds right. I'm no math wiz so I'll have to take your word for it :) Equazcion (talk) 17:37, 15 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Capitalization

Titles of pages/sections/titles that are not the official name shouldn't be capitalized. --NullTalk 22:51, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Er... what's this in reference to? The Ranged weapons page where I capitalized the "Gun"/"Arrow"/"Magic"? In that case, it was a stylistic choice; they looked bad lower-case. --JonTheMon 01:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
No (sorry for not clarifying better), for example:

Page titles: (just random examples)

Ranged Weapons ---> Ranged weapons

Attack Speed ---> Attack speed

Corrupt bunny ---> Corrupt Bunny

Giant worm ---> Giant Worm

Sections:

== How To Do This == ---> == How to do this ==

== This and that of the Corrupt bunny == ---> == This and that of the Corrupt Bunny ==

hope that clarified if better. --NullTalk 02:10, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

So, forgive my confusion, but why are you bringing this up to me? --JonTheMon 02:28, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Nevermind about it being you. Just a reminder to everyone who reads this I guess. --NullTalk 00:29, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

I've started patrolling edits. This should help us stay on top of vandalism, and not waste effort reviewing the same edits several times. Want to participate? happypal (talk • contribs) 08:47, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi !

I would like to translate some pages in french, is it possible ?

The french translation already (mostly) exists over at http://wiki-fr.terrariaonline.com --JonTheMon 23:12, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Editcopy

Do you have any arguments before I move the editcopy to the main page? --NullTalk 22:09, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Blocking the "MediaWiki guide" users

Okay, I gotta ask: Why does creating pages like Submission Advice for new users or Media Wiki syntax explained warrant an indefinite block? Is linking back to mediawiki.com some sort of spam/vandalism tactic I'm not aware of? --Lunboks 12:47, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

So, the first one was spamming pages across multiple wikis with names like Antta and Antpu, so I figured it was some sort of bot, possibly a trial run since linking to mediawiki would likely fall below many radars. --JonTheMon 13:32, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I see that now — this is probably no coincidence, either. Unless it really is a trial run, I can't see a pattern, though. As far as vandalism and spam goes, this is pretty weak sauce. --Lunboks 16:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
They (so far) have 5 character names. 206.77.0.157 16:47, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Question

Could someone tell me when the Italian translation project will "graduate" to subdomain, please? -Luke(talk • contribslogsblock log)- 14/10/11

generally, when the Italian main page has no red links. I don't think you've translated the main page yet, have you? --JonTheMon 17:57, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

But for now we are forced to have red links in the Italian pages, don't we?Because I named all Italian pages with their name in English followed by /it,as you and another user suggested me to do. -Luke- 15/10/11

Yes, so then you'd have links on your main page like [[Copper Pickaxe/it|Piccone di rame]] which you fix after the project is graduated --JonTheMon 13:05, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

I created the Italian main page yesterday. It's named "Terraria Wiki/it". Now I 'm editing all other pages in groups and I bump from a group to another when the first is complete. --Luke 17/10/11

The item infobox on Italian pages is on the left! I can't understand why... However, does it matters? If so,could someone more experienced with wikis help me,please?

Which pages? — iLiaWneK (talk) 22:08, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

All pages in the category "Italian translation" which are about tools and a few others, such as Gems/it. --Luke 19:14, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

You changed the class of the infobox, so i changed it back (class="infobox/it" -> class="infobox") You can leave the class stuff alone until you get a sub-domain. --JonTheMon 19:22, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Opinion?

User:ILiaWneK/Sandbox/item drops infobox used in User:ILiaWneK/Sandbox. How is it? [[iLiaWneK|talk|contributions]] 19:59, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I am not receiving my confirmation email. I have tried several times over a few days. How can I confirm my email ddress?

Hi

I'm a user from Taiwan, and I continue Chinese translation project recently. I script Template:Item_link_and_Translate which based on Template:Item link today, and I think it's may helpful for user who is interested in translation project. Could you help me to check it up and give some advice? Thank you.--阿俊 10:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Would the template only be used on the translation pages? If so, it looks fine. But mostly, it's a question of "does this help the translators/the change-over once the project gets a sub-space?" --JonTheMon 13:30, 31 October 2011 (UTC)\
Sorry, but I don't understand what your question mean, can you relate this concretely for me? Sorry again for my broken English. Thanks, anyway.--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 17:41, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Will the template only be used on /zhtw pages? --JonTheMon 18:12, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
No, it can be used on any translation page, as only the translators give/input their "Translated page sub-domain name" to the named parameter "sub". This means it can be /cs, /fr, or what ever translators want. The only problem is I don't know what/how will it change when translation project "graduate". I Notice that Translated page sub-domain name such as /fr is no longer exist when I browse completed projects "fr-Terraria_Wiki". What process is it? Is that just simply search all /fr and delete? If so, I think I can try to make a small update in Template:Item_link_and_Translate and let it still used after translation project "graduate".--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 01:43, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
When a project is completed, all of the pages are moved to the subdomain and re-named with their local language. Any suffix (/fr, /zhtw) are removed at that time. --JonTheMon 02:41, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
What does "re-named with their local language" mean? I mean, how can system know local language, likes 武器 means weapons in Chinese, and re-name the page? Can I get the code about this? I will try to edit template for keeping its function after the pages are moved to the subdomain. By the way, I notice that there is something wrong with fr-language vision page. I'm checking now.--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 04:18, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
PS: I fix it by rebuild Modèle:Item link redirect page.--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 04:34, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Local language = language of the translation. --JonTheMon 04:41, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

OK, maybe I ask a stupid question, or I can't correctly describe my point in English. Any way, does it will also rename parameter I input to the template?
ie: {{Item_link_and_Translate|Bed|床|sub=/zhtw}} --> {{Item_link_and_Translate||床|sub=}}
--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 04:58, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

When the project is complete and articles renamed, you would likely switch {{Item_link_and_Translate|'''Bed'''|床|'''sub=/zhtw'''}} to {{Item_link|床}} --JonTheMon
Then how does system know bed=床? and do I need to copy Item_link into Item_link/zhtw before?--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 15:15, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
At that point you will use your own version of Item_link on your sub-domain. --JonTheMon 16:12, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Chinese main page has no red links now. What should I do for subdomain?--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 20:03, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Umm, the pages need to be translated, not just have the english copied. --JonTheMon 21:48, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Need I build every template I used with /zhtw page?--Jiune, 阿俊(talk) 06:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
You can probably put off translating the templates themselves until you get the subdomain. --JonTheMon 13:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

A big thank you

All is well, thanks for unblocking me in the end. ^_^ The Pathogen 07:06, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your efforts

I wanted to thank you yet again for all your hard work and presence on the wiki. I'm also thanking Lunboks for all his hard work. The community seems to be handling itself fine, and being pretty auto-sufficient, but I can't help but notice there are only you and Lunboks as active admins. Do you feel this is enough? Do you feel we should nominate anybody else? I've noticed we aren't paroling new edits anymore. Is this something you guys feel we should be doing again? I can help with the patrolling. happypal (talk • contribs) 07:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Generally there is no harm in having more admins, it only becomes an issue when the admins are most of the editors. Here, we have a fair number of editors, but most of them don't stick around for long. Taking those two together, I'd say that the normal editors are doing a good amount of patrol, so we wouldn't need an admin just for that. As for current admin activity, it's fine as long as there isn't rampant vandalism. --JonTheMon 13:38, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Another administrator couldn't hurt, really. Icke would be an obvious choice here, since he's one of the few regulars and does some patrolling anyway, rolling back vandals and reporting them. There's not really a lot of activity going on at the moment, but personally, I'll probably be even less active here in the foreseeable future. Things to do and such. Hell, I'm already only active if you count occasionally clicking a rollback/block/patrol button as being active. Having another person to watch things and keep the peace might be a good idea. --Lunboks 00:09, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you!
