Your concerns surrounding Blindfold

I didn't want to clutter up another user's talk page, so I'm leaving this here. Pardon me if I go a little long.

Just to get this out of the way, while your being blocked was entirely out of line, I don't necessarily disagree with Glowbomb's reversion of your edit. It's not that I don't care, just that I disagree with your evaluation of it. I honestly don't know why the Blindfold makes players immune to blindness. I could, and personally have, come up with a number of reasons- maybe the blindfold is preventing the player from seeing something horrifying that would rob them of their sight, or maybe the player is training themselves, like a blind samurai, to use their other senses to perceive the world. I can't know what exactly was going through the head of one of the Re-Logic developers, though, so if any of these theories were placed on the page, even though I agree with them, I'd remove them, because they're just speculation. If you're looking for a personal opinion, then as a game developer, I can tell you that sometimes decisions are made for balance or completion reasons and fleshed out later through backstory- this is the same reason why in many games, bosses encountered early in the game will be weaker than regular enemies found later on, why players can't do things in gameplay that characters do in cutscenes, or why well-known mythical creatures used as general enemies will be depicted with different abilities. Asking why the blindfold protects against blindness is the same as asking why the enemies that drop it have it in their possession- of course, because everything that drops a blindfold causes blindness. But what does a slime or a mummy do to blind the player? Well, you see... it goes on and on.

The hard fact is that in the game, and by extension in its source code, the item is referred to as "Blindfold" and is depicted as a blindfold would be. Ideally, this wiki doesn't go too much deeper than that. While interesting questions, they're outside the scope of this wiki; fan communities like the forums are better places to have these sorts of discussions. It may be worth noting that a blindfold doesn't help you see, but entering the realm of "x should be y" opens the wiki up to player suggestion, interpretation and debate, which are decidedly unwelcome. To avoid these contesting opinions on the whys and hows of things like this overtaking more relevant information, those opinions are put aside outright.

In short, we call it Blindfold because that's what the game calls it. Anything more than that is inappropriate for the wiki. --Gearzein (talk) 21:24, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
