Item Link

Thanks for your contribution, the effect looks awesome.

Item link is used on virtually ALL of our pages, and I'd rather we keep it a single use 1 parameter template. I think it would be better if you moved your contribution into 2 new templates, say:

  • template:item frame : Just the frame
  • template:item frame link : The frame + the link

This should make the use easier for everyone, and limit impact.

If your template is well received, I wouldn't be against pushing it inside the item infobox, but that would come later. happypal (talk • contribs) 09:17, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

The split sounds fine to me. My goal was actually to use the framed version in crafting tables or other places with multiple links so the item images can line up with each other. -- RestfulMonad 09:28, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
By "just the frame" I meant the framed object, but without the text, ie, like template:linked icon. happypal (talk • contribs) 09:55, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm against this format completely. While it mimics the in game appearance, it does not fit with the style that has been developed on this wiki, nor with the color theme. I would just as soon it be scrapped before you put too much more effort into it. Thanks. Don't spend your time reinventing the wheel. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 02:46, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Though I disagree with you, I guess it's better I hear about this now before I started slicing up quantity digits in an image editor to upload. I still think some sort of sizing/tilizing template would be a good thing to have since currently all the icons are random sizes. That makes the crafting recipe tables (and anything that aligns the item icons vertically, really) look really jagged. We could just scrap the background bit and keep the resize effect. -- RestfulMonad 03:05, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I do understand the problems the varied size icons presents, but that's how the game was made. If the devs had used a standard size for every icon, it would be much easier on all of us, but they didn't. It's why I'm also against resizing image files that are extracted from the game, including cropping them. They will just be reuploaded game size with the next update. When I designed the wiki, I made a conscious decision to not use the game mimicking format to stay that much further away from the Wikia project's approach, and I think what we have is a nice, very clean looking wiki for a game that has 2d sprite graphics :D -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 03:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
i added the count to template:item frame. what do you say? – Flying sheep 16:41, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I like it! I have Andy Bold installed and it looks perfect on my machine. Sure beats my idea of uploading tons of anti-aliased images. I'm not sure this template will get much use though. -- RestfulMonad 21:54, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Item Standardization

Since you're on the project, your input would sure be appreciated. -- TechpriestMagos 22:20, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
