"Hellstone does damage them. "

Who said that and is there any proof? --Barhandar 06:11, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I tested this and they definitely do NOT take damage from Hellstone blocks, and almost certainly none from Hellstone Ore. I built a screen-wide arena, with the walls made of successive layers of ash, hellstone blocks, and 3-block thick glass. I also filled in all the lava in the vicinity. After that, I let a bone serpent spawn near my arena, and let him beat on me for 10 healing potions worth of life, without taking a swing. I also left pockets of hellstone ore around in the walls, and it's incredibly unlikely that he managed to avoid hitting all of them in the process. The bone serpent remained completely undamaged the entire time. I'll edit the page to remove this claim. --Keldi 19:12, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
I support Keldi I've never noticed them dying of hellston hellbrick contact, but I have seen them perish randomly, or for example if i telported to above 0ft and went back down to hell (incredibly fast due to Earthwelling) I could loot them and see their body. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thanatos121 (talkcontribs) at 19:54, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Flooding the Underworld doesn't slow them down

"To make fighting them easier, try flooding The Underworld with a lot of water. This will cause the Bone Serpents to move slower through the water and thus easier to kill."

In my experience, this is not true. I have a great amount of water located in the underworld of one of my maps, and Bone Serpents travel through it at a similar, if not the same, speed as through lava or any other material. Can any one else confirm? --Colonel Thirty Two 02:26, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Worm AI treats liquids like they treat solid blocks. I can confirm that fluids have no effect on the speed of Bone Serpents and The Eater of Worlds. I did not check Devourers or Giant Worms, so they might behave differently. 98.118.111.125 20:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Separate Drops for Head and Body

The head drops the Sunfury, the body segments drop Flamelash *edit* Despite my confidence, this is inaccurate. I have about ten Sunfury and twenty Flamelash, so this is based on a fairly large amount of data. On a related note, getting a plumber's hat takes a really long time. --Theothersteve7 02:42, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I appreciate all your hard work, and am sad to say no. All segments drop the Sunfury, all segments drop Flamelash. Confirmed.

if (((this.type == 0x27) || (this.type == 40)) || (this.type == 0x29)) // Type.NPC 0x27 (Head), 40 (Body), and 0x29 (Tail) do the following
{
if (Main.rand.Next(100) == 0) // ~1 in 100 chance of the following
{
Item.NewItem((int) this.position.X, (int) this.position.Y, this.width, this.height, 220, 1, false); // Drops type.Item 220 (which is Sunfury) at death location
}
else if (Main.rand.Next(100) == 0) // ~1 in 100 chance of the following
{
Item.NewItem((int) this.position.X, (int) this.position.Y, this.width, this.height, 0xda, 1, false); // Drops type.Item 0xda (which is Flamelash) at death location
}
}

Yep, I saw it in the code myself. Weird coincidence, then. Mind you, this was all incidental, and I did get the plumber's hat, so no loss there. --Theothersteve7 03:36, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

File:Bone Serpent.png

It doesn't have very good lighting and has a background to it. It would be very hard to get an image of a bone serpent in a program, so I used the NPC models and tried my best. I came up with Bone Serpent nearest neighbor.png (nearest neighbor prevents anti-aliasing but looks strange and is not perfectly 180 degrees because of the head) and Bone Serpent.png (doesn't demonstrate curvature of the bone serpent). These are both less than perfect. Which image is better? I can make another one with anti-aliasing. --NullTalk 21:10, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

bone serpants for me were first to die.

back before 1.0.6 i luckily got a drop from a bone serpant, the sunfury, after an agonizing time with them.... this was a reward of payback, they easily died from their own drop, i spammed that thing like no tomorow for my life, and during 1.0.6 it seems bone serpants NEVER spawn for me, possibly an anomally / bug? becuase i can only survive in my own nether castles for so long before dieing, but i've never seen a bone serpant ever spawn again ever since 1.0.6 for me.... it's sad not to see my nemesis of combat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.20.242.10 (talk) at 23:49, 29 October 2011

Bone serpent drops soul of light!

It does so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.23.211.217 at 16:01, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah if you are under Hallow. Anything does. :/ --Geonightman 17:24, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Bone Serpent in the Cavern layer

Title says it: a Bone Serpent just spawned in the middle of the Cavern layer. This happened in hardmode. Bug? --186.55.12.207 19:35, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Had this happen in 1.3.0.7 a few times now: hardmode, upper-middle of cavern layer, hallow, snow/ice/tundra (w/e you want to call it), corruption close enough to spawn corruption enemies as well. infrequent bone serpent spawns as a result, but they keep popping up. Evidently not spawning from the underworld - I haven't even been near the underworld in this play session. No idea if it's a bug, related to the biome mix or both. They die very easily at this point so it's minor, but still rather odd. --81.141.145.230 00:06, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Undead?

Should this also be classified as an Undead enemy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmasters (talk • contribs) at 20:19, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Since there is no Undead Army, how can it be classified as part of that? Like I understand it is undead, but there is no Army of Undead event or referenced in the game? If anything it should be a hell minion, due to there not being any special characteristics aside from it's bone look that make it "undead". --Thanatos 21:21, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
The upper being said 4 years ago, why does this wiki list skeletons, zombies, bone serpents etc as undead enemy? There is no feature that makes 'undead enemies' any different from other mobs. Vampires take bizzare damage from stake launcher, but that's the only case in the entire game. Undeads spawn in various parts of the world. I like theorycrafting and fan fiction, but since there is nothing in common between 'undead enemies' beside their looks and names, it should at least be stated. This category is misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.156.133.65 at 19:53, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
You are correct. There are quite a few mistyped enemies just because of how limited actual information on valid types for {{npc infobox}} are. Acceptable types should turn into links- if all else fails, just stick with Enemy. I've edited the page to reflect this. Gearzein (talk) 20:06, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Immune To Confusion?

I've started a new character and I'm currently preparing for the wall of flesh, and so I brought a bee sword down to the underworld because my bees will do some extra damage to enemies behind me, long story short, I've never confused a bone serpent. Reecespuff (talk) 03:04, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Not sure you would be able to tell when you've confused a Bone Serpent.TOTORO01 (talk) 04:14, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
It would have the little purple question mark above its head. Also turn it may turn away from you, though bone serpents do that part on their own. Reecespuff (talk) 21:41, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Immune to Cursed Inferno/consistency

While it does say that it is immune to said debuff on the regular page, that is not reflected on the npc infobox. I also am doubtful of the validity of this statement, since I do remember lighting it on cursed flames (though, that may be inaccurate or I may have been confused with a different worm). If that is indeed true, please edit that into the npc infobox. DifrractSliver (talk) 15:21, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Right, the Bone Serpent is susceptible to Cursed Inferno. That might not have been the case in a previous version of the game, or an editor might have mistakenly added it. Either way, debuff immunities generally shouldn't be mentioned in the intro anymore, as they're already displayed in the infobox and updated there automatically. I have removed the sentence from the page; thanks for noting. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 15:28, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
