Appearance Conditions

Not sure if it was a bug or not, I had this guy appear as my 2nd NPC, shortly after the guide and of course after my 2nd house was built. All I had of note was a marigold, which can you use to make dye. That may be the requirement (an item which can make dye) rather than having an actual dye in the inventory. Akbar, not Ackbar

Another Dye Trader Spawn Condition in 1.3?

I had started a new character and found a Strange Plant near my spawn point. I had build up my base ahead of time, anticipating the Merchant's eventual arrival. After collecting the Strange Plant the Dye Trader showed up and moved in. It was very early in the game and I wasn't even close to fighting the Eye. Can anyone else confirm this happening to them? I'm under the impression it's a bug but considering the rarity of the Strange Plant it might be an exception to the new rules.

The Dye Trader spawn condition is that you have a Dye-related item. Someone changed the Dye Trader info on this page to requiring a pre-hardmode boss win, but that was never the case, and I'm not aware of any such change in 1.3. Gender

The King Statue teleports the Dye Trader, so he's definitely male. –KM100 ^(talk) 00:10, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Mobile Appearance Conditions

I was playing the game on mobile, and obtained a dye ingredient, which caused the Dye Trader to spawn. However, there are no Strange Plants in the mobile version, and I had not defeated a boss yet. Should there be some sort of mention that the secondary boss/strange plant condition is not required for mobile version? Raddaman8000 (talk) 20:06, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Spawn condition in 1.4

Spawn conditions may have changed in 1.4 update - i didn't find any strange plants yet, nor have i defeated any bosses, yet dye trader has arrived. All i had are dye crafting materials like marigolds and blue berries. SerGreen (talk) 20:57, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Dye Trader & 3ds Availability

Old sprite lists 3DS

Despite the Dye Trader not appearing at all in the 3DS version, hovering over his old sprite still lists that version alongside the old-gen console version. Shouldn't that not include 3DS version if he isn't in it? PhantoFantasma (talk) 19:34, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
