Filter idea

Section removal is becoming more of an issue (filter 5), but we still want normal users to be able to remove a section in the course of editing, right? So, should we just make it a disallow that says "You have to have at least 2 edits before you can remove a section"? --JonTheMon 21:19, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Great solution to it. It makes sense, as removing a section is a pretty big move. Maybe even disallowing IPs to even remove a section should be added. --NullTalk 21:33, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Right after Null makes that post a bot comes here and removes a section replacing it with "Boy did that raelly feel good". What is with these new bots anyways? They seem to be the tagline for some viagra knockoff but never actually link to anything or hint at an actually product. --Moxxy 22:00, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I know, it's so stupid to run a bot to vandalize a wiki. Waste of both users' time and energy. Probably some kids from the other terraria wiki. a lot keep getting past the filter. Somehow we need to improve it. They always misspell a word, they are never logged in, they always delete sections, it's always their first edit, they only write a few words. --NullTalk 22:08, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
We aren't going to be able to filter everything. That's why we have a vigilant team of admins and community. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 23:30, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
There's been 4 of those bots messing with your talk page. For now, I have protected your page for anonymous users. We can undo this at any time. --NullTalk 02:21, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, Wyn, would you be opposed to making the section removal that strict, but then tell them that just having 2 other good edits will allow them to make any other changes? --JonTheMon 02:44, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
No Jon, I'm not opposed to tightening the filters a bit.... I just want to make sure people understand that there isn't a filter or automatic fix for everything, and I don't want to hinder legitimate users any more than absolutely necessary in the attempt to find one. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 05:47, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Alchemy station pic

This has been bothering me for a while: Where did you get the pic for File:Alchemy Station.png? It looks... Un-natural. happypal (talk • contribs) 07:24, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

It's a cleaned up screenshot.... -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 07:40, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

About the Wikia Projects

I need the basic requirement for our project is done Portuguese with self-control. I'm delving further and looking for more information about it.

thanks --Bunchaban 09:02, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Basic requirement for a translation project:
  • Translate and resolve the links on Terraria Wiki page.
  • Do not translate templates.
  • Select 3 users who are committed long term to the project to act as administrators on the subdomain when it's created.

Your archive box template

Do you mind if I move User:Wynthyst/Archive-box to {{Archive-box}}? happypal (talk • contribs) 08:05, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

It's purple.. I'd rather you made a generic copy of it using Terraria colors if you want to use it on other pages. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 08:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Good point. I'd spend ours to create a customizable archive box, I'll keep it simple... happypal (talk • contribs) 08:33, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Language links for ongoing projects

I thought it would be nice to have lingual "interwiki" links, even for "ongoing" translation projects. They aren't interwiki yet, but that doesn't mean we can't use the functionality, IMO. This way, even readers that aren't involved in the project can go to the skeleton page and go "hey, this page exists in Portuguese, sweet!". Worst case scenario, the reader is happy he got his localized page. Best case scenario, reader realizes the existence of the project and joins...

I just wanted to prototype this with 2 languages. I'd keep going, but I always wait for your approval before going all in... happypal (talk • contribs) 07:26, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, the interwiki function won't work if the subdomain doesn't exist..... -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 13:33, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Did you see the Skeleton page? In the side bar, under the "In other languages", there is a link to Portugese and Chinese. happypal (talk • contribs) 13:39, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah... works for me, not sure who's going to be responsible for maintaining it however, and then replacing the actual language links when the project moves to it's subdomain.... -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 14:00, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I wrote a template so that the links automatically appear if the subpage exists, so the template will maintain it. Once the pages are removed and a subdomain is created, then the template will stop managing the links the that language, and the editors will have to put in normal explicit links. happypal (talk • contribs) 14:22, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
K, so it's just getting it added to every page, and making sure all the language projects are included in the template... -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 15:10, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Just wanted to pass it by you before I insert some 10 entries into the interwiki table, and insert a template into virtually each and everyone of our pages... happypal (talk • contribs) 15:22, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Sure. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 17:57, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Russian Wiki was attacked by kid(s). How to stop this shit? -- Kel9290

Infobox for item drops

I tried to make an infobox for monster item drops that could be added after the existing NPC infobox. I'm afraid I'm rather clueless at formatting and wikiscripting in general. How does it look, and more importantly, are we interested in using something like this?

My main reason for wanting something like this is so that I can have a page with more detailed information about how the game determines how much money an enemy will drop, and this will provide the perfect place to link it from. --GauHelldragon 10:35, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

I would recommend you talk to Happypal about it. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 05:03, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Item infobox code tweak

I've spent some time going around eliminating blank lines between item infoboxes and the start of page text that people naturally insert, as it currently causes an ugly whitespace at the tops of articles. This one line break shouldn't cause whitespace to show up when it occurs after a template that doesn't contain a line break itself. I looked at the code and determined the space is coming from the break between </includeonly> and <noinclude>, roughly where the template documentation begins. If noinclude were moved up to occupy the same line as /includeonly, the whitespace disappears (at least in my tests; see User:Equazcion/tester for the result, and User:Equazcion/sandbox for the modified code). Would you consider implementing this modification? Equazcion (talk) 18:20, 10 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick :) Equazcion (talk) 18:49, 10 Aug 2011 (UTC)

House -> Home

Where was the discussion to move House to Home? If there was none, you may want to revert that move as well. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 17:24, 16 Aug 2011 (UTC)

PS. Around how long would you like to wait to see if anyone else cares about these moves? Equazcion (talk) 18:30, 16 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Belated Question

I probably should have asked this before now. On the Version history page, there is only once change listed for 1.0. Many items are marked as having been introduced in 1.0 on their individual pages, however. Since the Version history page lists many of these items as introduced in the Pre-Release version (and further states that the list is incomplete), I've been systematically changing the notes on individual item pages to Pre-Release rather than 1.0. I hope this is acceptable, as I did it for the sake of preserving internal consistency. -- TechpriestMagos 21:56, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

We didn't have the pre release information when the wiki was created. As long as you can verify the items were introduced pre release, the changes are fine. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 21:43, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Question regarding wiki images

Hi Wyn,

Would I be allowed to use the images from the terraria wiki for all of the herbs (blinkroot, deathweed, moonglow, etc.) for a youtube video i'm creating?

Thanks.

All the icon images are from the game, so they are copyright Re-logic. I would guess if it's a terraria video, they would have no problems. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 23:58, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Syned

sorry can not really do not then? where the rules could be watching? sorry again ...

We are going to import all of the images from the English wiki on Monday. And no need to be sorry, I just didn't want to see you do all that work when it's not really necessary! -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 18:33, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Should I disable Adblock on Curse sites? If the money goes into the servers I'll be glad to disable it. --NullTalk 20:36, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

That's your choice. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 15:32, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Question about translation projects

I'd like to ask what does it take, how many articles do we have to do to get our own subdomain? I've trasnlated couple of pages as you can see on Terraria Wiki:Projects/Hungarian translation, but i've already made a mistake you recommended not to do on the French talk pages (translating templates), which of course i've only discovered a few minutes ago. So to stop spending my time on translating useless things first, i'd like to know what exactly do we have to achieve to get the subdomain, or at least please give me an estimation please :) --Mrbay 21:39, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Never mind, i found the answer a few posts above.. Just had to sleep for a day it seems :) --Mrbay 15:25, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

A problem with uploading files.

I've got a problem with uploading files. When I try to upload any file to Russian Wiki (in English one it works correctly) the following error occurs:

The web server doesn't have write permissions to the folder (public), in which is assumed to store uploaded files. Could you help me? P.S And sorry for bad english :) Loungman 07:25, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Opinion?

User:ILiaWneK/Sandbox/item drops infobox used in User:ILiaWneK/Sandbox. How is it? [[iLiaWneK|talk|contributions]] 19:59, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Right floating multiple boxes creates issues with the section edits. I think if you want to right float it, it would be better as an optional incorporation into the item infobox itself. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 20:24, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Very valid point, I hadn't considered that myself. [[iLiaWneK|talk|contributions]] 11:30, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Sup, again.

Someone on russian wiki always spams shit! It's really annoying. I don't know how works filters, so how to make block ip if there are 100% english symbols added to article? Thanks, Kel9290 12:38, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

File uploads

Hey,

Sorry to abuse your talk page like this, but is there any word on the disabled image upload yet? 1.1 draws ever closer, and not being able to upload any of the new sprites will be a problem. --Lunboks 17:00, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

It's fine Lunboks, I had to wait until everyone was back at work after the long holiday weekend. It should be taken care of very soon. -- Wynthyst File:Curseicon.png talk 19:08, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
AFAIK autoconfirmed users can upload images. --NullTalk 02:13, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
After looking through the special pages, I found any logged in user can upload a file. Seems fair enough to me. --NullTalk 02:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
