Sports
Sports are a group of Items that are used for certain activities in Terraria. These activities have almost no impact on progression, they mostly just help to pass the time. This guide will help to come up with ideas on how to use these items in fun ways.
Golf(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Golf is a sport that is mainly supported by the Golfer NPC. The main items used in golf are as follows:
Golf Clubs(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Golf Balls(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Golf Tee(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Golf Cup(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Golf Whistle(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Different clubs serve different purposes: The wedge is used to get the ball out of hazards such as sand, as it has a high vertical loft. The iron is used for general medium to short range shots, as it has decent vertical loft and power. The driver is optimal at long range shots as they have massive power and little loft. The final type of club is the putter, which is used for very short range shots. A golf cup is used as a goal for aiming the ball and a golf tee is used for placing it. See golf for more details. As points are scored, more items become available in the Golfer's shop. Golf equipment is originally bought from the golfer as well.
Beach Ball
The Beach Ball is a versatile item that reacts by bouncing when hit by a player, a weapon (except the Starlight), or a Water Gun/Slime Gun. It can be used to play various games. The general beach ball game that is implemented into Terraria itself involves keeping the ball in the air by hitting it repeatedly. The score is kept count by the game, and if the ball lands on a block after it has been hit 10 or more times, the chat will announce ‘The beach ball was hit (number of times) times before touching the ground!’. Dashing accessories can be somewhat useful, though take note that striking the ball at high speed may launch it too far away to reach before it hits the ground.
The Beach Ball can also be used for other games, such as volleyball.
Football(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
American Football, or just Football, is a sport where points are gained either by throwing the ball in between two large poles or by running to the enemy team's edge of the field and putting the ball on the ground. The game is played using the Football, which is purchased from the Party Girl. Receiving any amount of damage will automatically cause a football-carrying player to drop the ball, so PVP must be on for all participating players. In general, dodging is key.
Capture the Gem(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Capture the Gem is a unique sport in that it is a variant of another game, capture the flag. Two teams (with PVP on) race to each other’s base/spawn point and try to take each other’s 
Large Gem from a Gem Lock(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), while also trying to stop the opposition from taking theirs. Large Gems, crafted with 15 of their respective gem, are always dropped on death, no matter the character difficulty.
Capture the Gem involves many rules, and there are multiple versions of the game. It is usually played in one of two ways, a timed fight with score points based on how many gems each team has taken and captured, or whichever team captures a gem first. Sometimes players will get ‘preparation time’ in which they gather resources to build defenses around their gem. Players are usually equipped with "kits" or "classes", containing certain gear and weapons that are generally built around in-game damage types and subclasses.
Fishing
Fishing is a sport that isn’t as competitive as other sports, but it can easily be turned into a competition or tournament (e.g fishing for a certain fish, certain crate loot etc). Fishing requires a 
Fishing Pole and 
Bait. Bait can be caught with a Bug Net, rewarded by the Angler, or looted from crates. Fishing poles can be bought, rewarded by the angler, crafted, or looted from chests. While specific catches are randomized, the fish caught depends on the player's fishing power, which can be influenced by a number of factors, including weather and time. Fishing can also be a good way to obtain items or money for game progression, as it has many useful catches, including crates.
