The monster images on this page just look cluttered, imo. --JonTheMon 17:18, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Like any other overview page. I think it's very helpful in that new players might not remember what that particular monster was called, but they sure remembered how it looked. So they can just go here and look for it rather than having to manually scour each individual page. --Linkitch 17:31, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
why don’t we use the category for this page’s content? – Flying sheep 17:40, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Spawning info

I have some information about monster spawning that I'd like to add to the wiki, but I'm not sure where the best place to put it. Things like the exact dimensions of the "box" that enemies will spawn in, the "safe" range, and how far away monsters have to be from a player before they despawn. I also have other little tidbits about the spawning mechanism to share as well. --GauHelldragon 04:25, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Sounds like very useful info. Wasn't there a Game Mechanics page or something similar where you could put this? - Spinfx 05:33, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Move to Enemy?

Most players refer to them as enemies in my experience, and even on this wiki that's the word used most.

The word "enemies" occurs on 111 pages here, whereas the word "monsters" occurs only 66 times.

Similar results for "enemy" vs "monster" which shows 163 vs. 85 respectively.

From reading around it seems "monster" was once the preferred term used by the developers, but it now seems they use the two interchangeably.

The parent category always used this term, as did the sub-categories, many of which were created by User:Wynthyst, which I can only interpret as an endorsement.

Please voice your opinions on this matter. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 17:14, 16 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Non-enemies On This Page

I don't consider the penguin an enemy any more than the goldfish or a bird. It can't attack you unless there is a blood moon. I'm going to make a section for "Critters" and move the penguin to there, and also add the other critters, too. Camelotcrusade (talk) 18:08, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Lunatic devotes aren’t enemies Zikzargil (talk) 08:13, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

It is true that they do not deal any damage, but that is not a criterion for being an antagonist of the game. Take the Celestial Pillars as another example. They themselves do not deal damage either, but they are closely related to and accompanied by other dangerous creatures (in the devotes' case, that would be the Lunatic Cultist and the Blue Cultist Archers) and are essential for game advancement. Furthermore, I cannot think of another category of creatures they would fall into. Critters? No, cannot be caught with a Bug Net. NPCs? No, do not serve any purpose for the player by being alive. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 13:43, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

There are for sure some enemies missing on this page still. I'm going to get to work now and see if I can figure out which ones.

Here is what we were missing, I am adding them now:

I still don't think that projectiles should be listed here. The title of this page is "Enemy", and I don't think anyone considers projectiles enemies, regardless of the fact that they are NPCs in the game code. Any opinions? Chrisf1020 (talk) 20:26, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

I agree, they should probably be removed. The list is far from complete anyway, and expanding this page to include all enemy projectiles would be inappropriate. Equazcion (talk) 20:58, 20 Dec 2014 (UTC)

Projectiles are enemies. If a player is shot by a skeleton archer that shot a flaming arrow, the death message will state that the player was slain, ripped in half, etc. by the flaming arrow. Not "player was shot by skeleton archer" Anonymous132547698 (talk) 18:01, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Wait though

I might be shaking up the status quo a bit too much by asking this, but what exactly is the rationale for this page? When I think about it, it's just a less organized Enemy list, and ironically the only text on the page recommends that page over this one for practical purposes. I might just be biased against big list pages, but this page in itself doesn't provide any new or useful information, and a big sortable table like List of weapons might be preferable (which would, by extension, make Weapons similarly redundant). Just a thought. Gearzein (talk) 22:01, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

I think it's useful to have a page where players can browse for the image of an enemy they encountered. They won't necessarily know the name, which leaves them clicking links on the enemy list page til they find the right one. I wouldn't mind merging the two though, adding downsized images as icons to the enemy list table and moving the whole thing here. Equazcion (talk) 22:31, 20 Dec 2014 (UTC)
Apparently, you haven't merged the enemy list and enemy sites yet, so will they be merged or not? I'm asking because I'm thinking about translating this page, and if a translate a page that is going to be merged with another anyway, that's kind of pointless. Terrariapc1 (talk) 14:33, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
I do think that these pages should still be merged. The enemy list table is a complete mess though, as some of the information likely isn't even accurate, and most of the sortable columns do not work properly. I would hold off on translating it for now. Chrisf1020 (talk) 15:06, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
I also still think they should be merged, but like the situation with dyes, there's no clear vision of what the final, unified product should be yet. Combining two big unfinished messes into one slightly larger mess achieves nothing.
For the moment though, yeah, I'd hold off on translating any pages that are "in conflict" like this. Gearzein (talk) 16:12, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Strange spawning issues

I was trying to find lenses for the Mechanical Eye at night, but for some reason, no mobs spawned AT ALL. Nothing even spawned inside the Corruption, much less in other biomes or even underground. 08:16, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Page for Rare Enemies?

The game lists rare enemies as a separate category from normal enemies, and i think that having a page for them would be good. 09:06, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
