tombstones?

Anyone know what "clear out Tombstones on soft ground" means? Does it mean it will automatically aim for the tombstones (maybe with smart cursor on or something) and easily mine them while leaving the terrain untouched? Or does it mean that it'll simply break the tombstones as it digs up the ground around them? In that sense, any pickaxe or even explosives would "clear out tombstones on soft ground".
