Out of curiosity, is there actually some reason hive blocks must necessarily be placed using a wand item? I get that bones are naturally weapons and so can't be placed like blocks without a wand, and living wood is created using normal wood with a wand, but why hive? It serves no other function other than as a crafting material, so there isn't any mechanical reason I can think of why you can't just plop it down like an ordinary block. 108.7.200.124 22:34, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Excellent question! You should ask this in the Wiki Forums. Admins and editors on this wiki can only make guesses as to why devs did it that way. Since we didn't make the game, it would only be conjecture. If you wish to get real answers, you'll need to ask on the forums. – Ferretwings (talk) 22:46, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, AFAIK, Hives are the saliva of the bees mixed with other compounds, just like wood or bones, the hives are a "natural" product created by chemical processes, but, as always, this is JUST a guess. Frenchiveruti (talk) 23:37, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
These possibly are a special type of items, which can only be placed with wands. For Hive is something produced by bees, correct? Then with all natural products being placed with a wand, then hive should also be placed with a wand! Note that bones are a product of the human body. But that is quite a good question. Beats me why they can't just place it down like stone can just be chucked down. But please keep in mind this is just my opinion, and like everyone else, I can possibly be wrong. In real life, if you dismantled a hive, you'd have a difficult time trying to reassemble it, due to it's intricacy and the materials it is composed of. You couldn't glue it or cement it back together. You might be able to melt it. I suppose the Hive Wand seemed the easiest solution. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:05, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Some interesting ideas, but I was actually wondering if there was something from a game mechanics or balance standpoint that necessitated the use of a special placement item. Hive blocks can't be eaten, thrown, etc., so I don't see why left-clicking shouldn't just place them like most other blocks. I may ask on the forum if nobody knows. 108.7.200.124 20:52, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
