Blood Moon

Hi ferretwings! Was just wondering what was going on with what you brought up about my edit. I was going through the edit history of the page blood moon when I saw an anonymous user has deleted so called "religious nonsense". I simply copied the deleted content, pasted it back in and saved the page. I saw the notification, and I'm confused on what I did wrong. Please respond back soon. -KittenLover33 KittenLover33 (talk) 02:27, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Revision as of 05:36, 8 March 2016 by User:Gearzein where he did some cleaning up and re-worded it. —Ferretwings (talk) 02:59, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Generally speaking, it's a bad idea to go through history and correct edits like this. Vandalism remains in a page's history into perpetuity, even after it's been reverted. As in this case, these problems are often resolved shortly after that point, and attempting to fix them can cause these conflicts with the current version of a page. Gearzein (talk) 04:34, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks guys! KittenLover33 (talk) 02:31, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Admin?

I'd like to make you an admin. Under ideal circumstances I might like to wait until someone has a higher edit count before promoting them, but I think we could really use another admin now. I'm not here as much as I'd like to be anymore, and others seem to also be here only sporadically. From where I'm standing, you have good language skills, firm grasp of the game, good wiki instincts, and you spend a lot of time here. So, let me know if you're interested and/or if you have questions (via a reply here). Equazcion (talk) 04:52, 1 Apr 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I would be interested. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:13, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Alrighty, done. Let me know if you have any questions about your new tools, enforcing rules, etc. Good luck :) Equazcion (talk) 05:29, 1 Apr 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I've got a couple of projects going on right now... if I have any questions, I'll definitely ask. I love lists (tables), and am creating some lists for myself, and will learn how to make templates probably tomorrow.
I do have one question, if I create sub-pages for myself, will the edits appear with the Recent Changes? And is there a way to stop the Sandbox edits from appearing with the Recent Changes? – Ferretwings (talk) 05:50, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately there's no way to stop userspace edits from appearing in recent changes, but you shouldn't really worry about that. "Cluttering up" recent changes isn't really much of a problem. You could cause maybe a minor inconvenience if you made hundreds of edits but still, no major issue with that. Equazcion (talk) 06:01, 1 Apr 2016 (UTC)
I just blocked a user for making erroneous and mis-leading edits, but I'm wondering now if he was editing for the Mobile platform. I'll go through his edits and see if that's the case. --Ferretwings (talk) 12:42, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
An editor got me thinking... We've described some weapons as post-Golem and post-Plantera. Should we continue the pattern with other bosses? For example, the Phantasm uses Vortex Fragments, which can only be obtained once the Vortex Pillar is defeated (or the other pillars). Would that make the Phantasm post-Cultist? --Ferretwings (talk) 02:35, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Megashark reverted undo

May I ask why you undid your undo of the edit on the Megashark from 142.167.249.243? From what I see your reasoning was sound. Flisch42 (talk) 21:49, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

After I undid the edit, I had a flashback to about a year ago, when I spent many coins modifying all my weapons and accessories, not realizing that the modifications would be lost once I crafted them into something better. Ferretwings (talk) 01:43, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
That is reasonable but that would mean we have to add this to all weapons and accessories which can be crafted into something else and than I find this a bit redundant. Flisch42 (talk) 08:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
You do have a point. I thought of adding it to the weapons (I believe there are 9), that are used to craft more powerful weapons. I'll need to think about this for a while. For now, I'll just add it to the Reforge page, to let players know that modifications are lost when the item is used in crafting. --Ferretwings (talk) 15:46, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Housing Menu

Hi, I noticed that Housing Menu redirects to Inventory but there is no information about it on this page. All the info are on the House page. Does "Housing Menu" should directly redirects to "House" instead or the content of it have to be moved to "Inventory" ? -- Dinoxel discussion 00:59, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

At some point, the content was moved from the Inventory page to the House page. It makes more sense on the House page, I think. I went through and removed all the recursive links to House. Good catch. --Ferretwings (talk) 04:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
That's perfect now ! ;) -- Dinoxel discussion 12:52, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

admin

I'd like to make you an admin,my contributions in Brazil of the Portuguese in minecraft wiki are good and want to be in administrator to terraria in Portuguese,it is too late. Eduaddad (talk) 15:08, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Any help you give with the Portuguese translation project would be greatly appreciated. The link to the project is Terraria Wiki:Projects/Portuguese translation. The Portuguese Terraria Wiki can be found here. We cannot make you an admin on that wiki, you will need to contact an admin at the Portuguese Terraria Wiki. I suggest making a number of contributions to that wiki, so they can see the value of your work. -- Ferretwings (talk) 19:24, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Asking about Projectile IDs page

This is fairly random and I'm not sure whether you'd be the best one to ask about it, but you seem active on here so I'm asking, I want to do some maintenance on the Projectile IDs page (not necessarily the most important of pages but I find all the ID stuff interesting and the pages are somewhat under-maintained), and I was wondering if you'd think it would be a good idea to reorganize the main table to somehow incorporate a "source" of each projectile to allow for including an actual image of the projectile itself (examples where it isn't the case being Frost Shard from the Ice Queen, for example). A lot of images are missing so for a lot of projectiles it isn't exactly clear what it is (for example, IDs 486-489 are all named "Hook" with no link and no image so it pretty much means nothing to anyone who might be using the page for modding or whatnot). I can navigate the source code so I can upload the images and find the information but basically I was wondering if something like IMAGE | NAME | SOURCE | ID would be a feasible set of header columns for the page, if they were filled in down the table with the relevant information. Thanks, Echofire (talk) 02:43, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Edit: Upon going back and reading this again I realized I never really actually explained what I meant by "source"... It's supposed to be what NPC, item, or block the projectile comes from, for example the Frost Shard's source would be the Ice Queen, Wooden Arrow's source would be all Bows/Repeaters (or the Wooden Arrow item itself, I suppose) and the Guide, and so on. With this system the name of the projectile wouldn't need to be a link (unless it has its own dedicated page, though most don't) because the source of the projectile could be a link instead, and the image could be an image of the actual projectile as it appears in the game rather than occasionally an image of the source entity or no image at all. Echofire (talk) 03:26, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

It sounds like a good idea to me. Make the proposal on the Community Noticeboard, to allow admins to comment on the idea. Perhaps include a short table as a demonstration. I would keep the projectile id column next to the projectile. If you don't get a response within a couple of days, I'd drop a note on User Talk:Gearzein and User Talk:Equazcion pages and ask them to take a look at your proposal. Adding a French link

Hey, could you add [[fr:Robe de Gypsy]] on the Gypsy Robe page ? -- Dinoxel discussion 10:48, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

I see you have already done it :)  —Ferretwings (talk) 15:19, 28 May 2016 (UTC) ... or perhaps I misunderstand
Thanks ! But what do you mean ? -- Dinoxel discussion 15:52, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
I mis-read your request, and thought you wanted the Gypsy Robe image on the French wiki. And then I saw you had already uploaded the image. Then I came back and re-read your request, and understood. I think I need some coffee. :)  —Ferretwings (talk) 16:13, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Delete my Page?

Excuse me for a moment, I was creating a gif and put it in this wiki, but when I saw the thumbnail of the file, It says "Error creating thumbnail: gm convert: Corrupt image (/media/hydra-media/terraria.gamepedia.com/8/8e/Ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif)". Is there something wrong with my gif? If there is, can you delete it? I think I just made an mistake and do some random stuffs. Here is the file. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/File:Ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif. Thanks! :D. --IosKent (talk) 05:06, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

It is normal that no thumbnails are created for large .gifs. You can just use the image like you normally would. --0icke0 (talk) 08:40, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Ok thanks. :D --IosKent (talk) 13:11, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Is my user page appropriate?

I was wondering, is my User Page is appropriate? Thanks.. --IosKent (talk) 07:59, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Yes, it's fine, lol! Users can do whatever they want with their own pages. And it was very sweet what you said about the admins here. We try to be fair. Several of our editors are really good at editing, some editors are good at looking stuff up in the compiled version of Terraria, and one editor... well, half his work is really good. What we really need now are more Mobile and Console users to help edit, that's why I reached out to you. I do appreciate the help you give. :)  —Ferretwings (talk) 13:27, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, you can ask me whenever you want. Because I am active everyday. You can ask me what is the recipes, tips, notes, etc..

Also, I saw an IP Address vandalizing on the page Lucky Horseshoe. Can you please block him. Its name is 24.248.204.129. Thanks --IosKent (talk) 13:35, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Most vandals are "hit and run"... they change a few words on a single page, and then we never hear from them again. I don't bother blocking them, I just revert their edits. The vandals I'm most concerned about are the ones that delete whole blocks of information (like recipes). Also, the vandals that vandalize more than just one page. I'm going through the list of recent edits now, looking for vandals. --Ferretwings (talk) 13:56, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Oh, Ok. Thanks for telling me that. Now I know minor vandals doesn't need to be block, but the major vandals needs to be block. Thanks Ferretwings --IosKent (talk) 14:00, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Amber Can Be Found in Underground

The page you edited, called Amber, right? For the mobile, amber can actually be found in underground and cavern layer. --IosKent (talk) 11:48, 13 June 2016 (UTC)--

Can you provide a screenshot? In "real life," Amber isn't mined, it come from tree resin. --Ferretwings (talk) 14:00, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Will Chaos State last longer on mobile?

I am testing this right now. Sorry for the previous glitched disscussion [deleted duplicate], i forgot the title and it was thought of as "harmful" when I tried to fix the title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.47.121.217 at 10:52, 29 June 2016

Exactly how long does it last in Mobile? -- Ferretwings (talk) 03:08, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
I just tested it again, it lasts 9 seconds on Mobile, 6 on PC (I think, I'm not too good at counting seconds but I'm almost completely sure it's 9 on mobile) Squeaker340 (talk) 21:55, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Ok, it lasts about 7 seconds on PC, 10 on mobile. I'm still not exactly sure though. I DO know that it lasts 3 seconds longer on Mobile than on PC. Squeaker340 (talk) 21:55, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
I knew it lasts longer on Mobile than on PC. According to the Rod of Discord page, the Chaos State lasts for 6 Desktop version / 8 Console versionMobile version seconds. I just wondered if it was lasting longer on Mobile than 8 seconds. --Ferretwings (talk) 05:50, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Can you be stabbed without the cube touching you?

I tested this before. I turned on transparent map, zoomed in and made it fully visible, so I could see the cube as a visible shadow. I went into a pitch black area i previously lit up, and it stabbed me without touching me. Squeaker340 (talk) 19:31, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Beetle Husk on 3DS version

Is Beetle Husk on 3DS version or not, because I am a mobile player, not a 3DS player. Thanks. --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 02:44, 16 July 2016 (UTC)--

No, 3DS is only 1.2, so it doesn't have Beetle Husk yet. -- Ferretwings (talk) 02:50, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Goblin Summoner's Al

I heard that you made an edit that Goblin Summoner is Fighter Al, but it looks like Caster Al because he can cast Shadowflame Apparations. Is it really Fighter Al or Caster Al. Then give me the explanation why --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 10:53, 17 July 2016 (UTC)--

I changed the AI back to Fighter per game code and left a paragraph on the Talk:Goblin Summoner page explaining the reason. I'd agree that based on its disposition, its unique behavior probably should have been implemented within the Caster AI, but its properties are specifically set to Fighter (3) when spawned. I'll look into this a bit further to see if I can find any discrepancies or some non-obvious reassignment. Critcodedtuna (talk) 14:05, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
When I saw that the Goblin Summoner's AI was a "3" (see here), I added it to the AI page. -- Ferretwings (talk) 19:00, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Well, Ok, I will just accept that for now --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 10:30, 18 July 2016 (UTC)--

Help with Tooltips

Hello Ferretwings, I would like a little help on the page Tooltips. It would be nice if you could help. Leafs reply here or on my talk page. Cheers. LordofEditing (talk) 00:23, 22 July 2016

I suggest collecting your ideas on a user sub-page first, and then copy it over to a wiki page once you have a sizable amount of information. You could create a sub-page User:LordofEditing/Tooltips. What is your plan for the page Tooltips? Is there something I can look at? I'll help if I can. -- Ferretwings (talk) 04:40, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
I have created a sub-page which you can view here: User:LordofEditing/Tooltips Note:  it is not finished. Obviously. LordofEditing (talk) 08:00, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Help with sections on the French Wiki

Hey, I was updating the French "Wood" page but I had a problem, the section about Living Wood doesn't show. I had the content on the French "Recipes/Living Loom" page. Do you know where it comes from ? --Dinoxel (talk) 15:38, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

To include our Living Wood recipes, we use {{:Recipes/Living Loom}} (don't forget the ":")  The full url is https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Recipes/Living_Loom – Ferretwings (talk) 18:07, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Except for the wood page. I'm looking at it now, hang on... – Ferretwings (talk) 18:20, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Our Recipes/Living Loom page begins as so:
{{crafts top |nostation=y |title=<h3>[[Living Loom]]</h3> |page=Living Loom Recipes}}
<section begin=living loom/>
{{crafts row
| result = Living Wood Wall | 4
| Wood |
}}
<section begin=living loom -1st row needed/>
{{crafts row
| result = Living Leaf Wall | 4) ({{icon|desktop}}
| Wood |
}}
and the page ends with:
{{crafts row
 | result = Living Wood Lantern |
 | Wood | 6
 | Torch |
}}
<section end=living loom -1st row needed/><section end=living loom/>
{{crafts bottom}}
Sorry, I guess I need to be more aware of how changes to our wiki can affect the other wikis. – Ferretwings (talk) 18:31, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Well, thank you but I already added the section content here. You can find the French "Wood" page here. As you can see, the code isn't working. --Dinoxel talk 19:19, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
I see. It appears the French wiki doesn't recognize the <section> tag. It's part of the Labeled Section Transclusion extension. I have contacted User:Game widow about it, and hopefully she can fix it. – Ferretwings (talk) 21:02, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

About vandalism file upload and deleting

Just an hour ago, I noticed 3 duplicated spam pdf file uploaded as File:QB Welcome CALL @@ ⫸⫸ Quickbooks support ⫸⫸ 1 800 728 7356 ⫸⫸ Quickbooks support ⫸⫸ Quickbooks support phone number Quickbooks customer support phone number USA CANADA⫸⫸.pdf. I just want you know now they are exploiting file upload for vandalism, and I can't delete at all. Hope you can handle it. And to prevent this type of vandalism, I recommend you to limit file upload qualification for at least 1-day-old account. I don't think they even have effort to wait a day. If you know the reason why terraria wiki is getting vandalism in this serious level, please let me know with email: [email protected]. I'm really sorry. I cannot check with this buggy terraria mobile interface. Jupiterbjy (talk) 17:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

We added some additional words to the spam filter, hopefully it solves the problem. Although I agree with you regarding preventing new users from uploading files, we do occasionally get png and gif contributions from new users. If the spam file uploads continue, we may need to re-think our current policy. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. – Ferretwings (talk) 02:51, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Bug

Ferretwings, could you please upload this to the forums in a bug report? This is slightly disturbing. Image:

Bug

— Preceding unsigned comment added by LordofEditing (talkcontribs) at 22:03, 17 August 2016‎

It would be best if the person who experienced the bug did the reporting. The devs will need details, and it's easier if the questions and answers aren't going through a third person. Obviously they'll need to know the platform used and Terraria version number, and possibly under what Terraria version the world was created. They'll also need to know the armor used, minions, pets, weapons, buffs, anything that can help them recreate the bug. Unless they can figure out exactly what caused the bug, there's really nothing they can do. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:54, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Hey Ferretwings, I'm a Wiki Guardian on Streamerpedia, and I'd just like to know how to protect pages so only administrators can access them. Thanks. LordofEditing (talk) 22:15, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

With our wiki, I click on "More" which is a menu option located to the right of "Edit Source" and "History". Then I click on "Protect" which has options for configuring the page's protection level. – Ferretwings (talk) 22:21, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello Ferretwings, I would like to know how to insert an achievement template. Please reply here. Thanks. TOTORO01 04:11, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

The usage documentation for the achievement template can be found at Template:Achievement. Most templates are documented on their pages in this way. To actually implement a template, just insert the text in curly brackets ({{}}) as directed. Gearzein (talk) 04:53, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Regarding vandals and block time

If seen your edits on the admin board and as that is not a discussion forum, I decided to post here, I hope this is ok.

  1. It is useless to block an anonymous account (IP) for an indefinite time. IPs are usually changing at some point, from a few hours until weeks (depending mostly on the provider) of course there are static IPs but that should not be the rule here (the wiki).
  2. I wanted to direct you to the beginning of the admin board, where I found this (maybe useful):
Administrators: Indefinite blocks should generally not be used, except in cases of confirmed incessant spam bots. Blatantly malicious registered users with a clear intent to continue vandalizing should receive a 6-month to one-year block. When the intent to continue vandalizing is not completely apparent, or for non-vandalism cases that still require disciplinary action, use warnings and/or escalating block lengths, beginning with days or weeks.

and at last I wanted to say something about User:ObviousSnowflake, the user is obviously a vandal, but he is creative and knows how to use the wiki and he took some time to create the page. We should block him, sure but my suggestion would be one month and we try to convert him, could be useful. Flisch42 (talk) 22:50, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

My intent was to elicit a response from other admins who may have dealt with this sort of vandalism in the past. I realize that blocking the IP indefinitely may not be the best solution, as he could probably contact his provider and ask for a new IP (however, admins have done range blocks before). I was simply stating what I very much wanted to do, lol. I would never initiate such a block without the approval of at least one other admin ;)
As for our creative troll... he can do a lot of damage if he wants to. He clearly has the knowledge and time. Even with the block, he has access to his user page, if you'd like to leave him a message. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:09, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
I've responded on the admin board. In short, don't worry about it, it seems like a pretty run of the mill vandal to me. As a personal note, I might be overstepping my bounds here, but I'm willing to wager that the content of some of these edits in particular is the cause of some of the trepidation in taking action against them. I'm reluctant to make too strong an assertion here, but I'll say this- there's nearly no correlation between length of block and severity of "punishment". Blocking users is a tool for deterrence and prevention, an action taken not against a user but (pardon the grandiose wording) in defense of the wiki- anyone who would be really broken up by the inability to contribute to the wiki for any length of time is likely a regular contributor you can talk an issue out with. If someone on a school computer puts the word "butt" on a page four hours before you catch it, they're probably not coming back, so a block of three hours or 300 years has the same weight. The main factor you should consider in determining block length is likelihood of return, and in most cases that probability is near zero.
As for the other user, I'm gonna recommend against pretty much any form of communication with a blocked user. Vandals are vandals, and commending them for their creativity is giving them the attention they're asking for. Recommend that they take their fan creations to the forums instead. If they're going to keep being antagonistic, then treat them as a vandal, but trying to 'convert' another user is ill-advised. Gearzein (talk) 01:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought. Put some space/time between the vandal and the wiki. Most IPs are never heard from again, so I don't block them. To me, both of these vandals seemed likely to return, but maybe during their "time out" they'll find another wiki to harass... I mean find some constructive way to spend their time and energy.
I guess my level of annoyance got a little high with these two vandals, which is why I proposed a longer block. I'm better now :) – Ferretwings (talk) 03:58, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

NPC sandbox

I noticed you're attempting to implement the debuff chance param. I wanted to point out the {{il2l}} template -- I'm not sure offhand whether it'll help, but it's meant to split text between two lines next to an icon, so it might be of use here. Might be easier than dealing with all the {{!}} table row stuff.

I believe it always applies a link to the icon, whereas buff links in the NPC infobox are not supposed to by default (debufflink=yes activates linking), but {{il2l}} could be tweaked to allow unlinking the icon.

Just a note, in case it helps. Equazcion (talk) 04:37, 12 Sep 2016 (UTC)

I forgot il2l wrapped - I should have checked, and not assumed. No point in re-inventing the wheel, lol! Thanks :) – Ferretwings (talk) 04:46, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Main page changes

Remember that whenever you make changes to the main page, always mirror them to Terraria Wiki/editcopy. When they're out-of-sync it creates confusion when editors propose changes at the editcopy (non-admins can only edit the "editcopy"). Thanks :) Equazcion (talk) 01:27, 13 Sep 2016 (UTC)

I was going to take care of that today, I guess I forgot. I went through the editcopy yesterday, and I think there was something I wanted to check on. Oh, I think somebody added to the enemy list. We only have but so much room, lol! Just copy and paste, right? – Ferretwings (talk) 01:37, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Yeah basically just copy and paste, although leave the {{EditMainpage}} template at the top of editcopy -- that should generally be the only difference between the two. I already synced them up, so if there were changes missed from editcopy, they'll be a revision or two back in its history. Equazcion (talk) 02:09, 13 Sep 2016 (UTC)

Incinerated vs. Incenerated

Incinerated is the correct spelling. Does this mean the tooltip in-game has incorrect spelling? TOTORO01 (talk) 12:32, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

It is misspelled in the game. I thought I had left a message for editors, I'm checking the page now. – Ferretwings (talk) 12:35, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see, must've missed that! Sorry about that.TOTORO01 (talk) 12:36, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Some white space on the Main Page

Hey, I was wondering why there was as much white space on the Ennemies section on the main page ? I have a 1920*1080 resolution. (see there) --Dinoxel talk 22:59, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

I adjusted it. Let me know if it helped. – Ferretwings (talk) 02:09, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
It still the same for me. Aren't you seeing this too ? --Dinoxel talk 13:55, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, my video settings don't go that high, so I'm trying to guess what is causing it. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:03, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I just made another adjustment. I'm hoping it is better now? – Ferretwings (talk) 14:23, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Still not :/ --Dinoxel talk 16:02, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
The problem should be the table with the fixed width of 390px, if I can identify that right. I am not really good with all the templates, and I would not be sure what I really change, but I would guess it is the width parameter below the div id:mf-enemies. Flisch42 (talk) 16:37, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I made another adjustment. If that doesn't fix it, I'll need to switch over to percentages throughout the page. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:41, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Well done you did it ! Congrats :D --Dinoxel talk 23:27, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm glad to hear it :) If it hadn't worked, I was all out of ideas, lol! – Ferretwings (talk) 01:03, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Add me to Platform Contributors?

So i saw your Platform Contributors page, and just wondered if you could put me on it? I just wanted to know. Shinobi19 (talk) 20:22, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Also, thanks for fixing that horrible mistake i made. Shinobi19 (talk) 23:47, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

I can add you. How long have you been playing Terraria on the 3DS? Are you prepared to look up crafting recipes? :D I may ask you to look up crafting recipes from version 1.2.1 or later, to see if it's available on the 3DS. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:20, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I have had Terraria on 3DS since about February, but have made pretty descent progress.
I am always ready to look up crafting recipes, and have memorized most of them.
1.2.1 has not come out on 3DS yet. 3DS is still in 1.0.3. Shinobi19 (talk) 20:25, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
3DS 1.03 is the equivalent of PC 1.2. I know they have some additional content as well from PC 1.2.4. Have you reached Hardmode yet? – Ferretwings (talk) 22:30, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I've been in Hardmode for a while. Maybe nearish June? All I know is that I've been in Hardmode a while, and I also have made a another Pre-Hardmode character & world. So if you need data from either, I am happy to help. Also, I have not been on the main page for a while, and did not see the version part of 3DS. I am stuck on Golem though. I just can't beat him! Shinobi19 (talk) 01:01, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Also another question. What Server (UTC) hours are you active? I kinda just want to know. Shinobi19 (talk) 02:27, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
The time I'm here varies greatly. It could be anywhere from 13:00 UTC to 4:00 UTC (and if I'm experiencing insomnia, even later). Sometimes I'm only on a couple of hours, and sometimes I feel like I'm on all day. Of course, I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to :) I've owned Terraria for a number of years, playing off and on. There are editors who've logged in much more game time than I have, and sometimes I leave edits alone because I have no clue if it's correct, lol. Because of your experience with the 3DS version, I'll add you to the list now. Good luck with Golem :) I haven't tackled him alone yet, only in multiplayer. I'm still stuck on Plantera. :/ – Ferretwings (talk) 17:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
The easiest yet most simple way I beat Plantera is with a Clockwork Assault Rifle and Crystal Bullets.(though I didn't fight him until I had Chloryphyte Armor) I also built an arena that gives alot of space to move around.
This is where I got the idea to do everything: Terraria 1.2: How to Defeat Plantera! (UPDATED EASY SOLO GUIDE / TUTORIAL) [demize], though I did things a little different. Hope this helps:-) Also, I am doing really bad at Golem. I have used up at least 5 power cells a day trying to defeat him. For a month!!! :-( Shinobi19 (talk) 19:09, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Last Prism Trivia

You reverted an edit on the Last Prism page, which was saying: "Despite being called a prism, The Last Prism seems to be a triangular based pyramid." As I see it, the fact seems right, so I was wondering why you reverted it? I know the fact was removed before that, which I did not recognized until now. Here are two links to wikipedia Prism (geometry) and Optical Prism and both seem to confirm that the last prism is not a prism. Flisch42 (talk) 23:38, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Optical prisms really have only three requirements: the object must be transparent, the faces must be flat and polished, and there must be an angle between two faces of the prism, in order to refract the light. I'm guessing that most prisms are crafted with a flat base and a flat top, because it is easier to calculate what the light will do when it enters the prism, it's not as easy when you are dealing with the multiple angles that a pyramid would give you. Or perhaps, they are simply easier to manufacture that way. If you google prism pyramids there are some out there, although very few. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply and I should have read the article about the optical prism more carefully. I think your revert was a bit strong, as it can be confused, but I see why you undid the edit. Flisch42 (talk) 11:59, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
I used the Rollback feature, and realize I should have used undo, with an explanation. That was an oops. I do want to add to trivia explaining that the Last Prism is an optical prism, but I haven't quite worked out the wording. Sometimes I go overboard with explanations in trivia. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:11, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
No Problem. I was just confused as i did not know if you considered that vandalism, on what I would disagree, sorry for mentioning it :-). And some note regarding that would probably good. Flisch42 (talk) 01:22, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for help with my talk page

Thank you for fixing the box that I tried to put at the top of my talk page. Thorium Wiki

Hey there, I'm an editor over at the Thorium Mod Wiki (A Terraria Mod), we use Terraria Wiki's infoboxes (obviously, same game :P) and I noticed that the Item Infobox Template adds a {{PAGENAME}} (placed).gif/.png for every page it's on to the wanted pages list, if no (placed) image exists. Would you happen to know what's wrong? --Tymon80 (talk) 21:43, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm looking at it now. I'll let you know if I figure it out. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:49, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
Game Widow & Alianin got it fixed on our wiki, you can copy line 21 - 50 over from our wiki, as I don't have the rights. (Granted Equazcion hasn't already copied it) Thanks for looking for the problem, though! Happy Holidays! --Tymon80 (talk) 00:10, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Infobox wrapper

I modified {{test}} to make it list infoboxes vertically. However this was before I realized you wanted it to be able to show them in horizontal rows also.

FYI I think what you were trying to do would basically make {{infobox wrapper}} no easier to use than just putting infoboxes in a table format manually. The intended use seems to try to replicate table behavior by taking in table codes and outputting table codes...? Unless I'm misunderstanding. It might be better to have a template where people can simply enter each infobox as a parameter and the template aligns them all vertically down the right of the page (as my version does currently). Equazcion (talk) 23:55, 26 Dec 2016 (UTC)

After walking away from it and coming back, I realized I had missed something, lol. The test template is now doing exactly what I was looking for, thanks :) To list the infoxes horizontally, all one needs to do is include multiple infoboxes in one parameter. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:18, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
No problem :) PS. I think they'll come out horizontally without any wrapper template too, though grouping them in a table cell might still have uses. Equazcion (talk) 00:29, 27 Dec 2016 (UTC)

Gardening: Soil Farming versus Planter Box farming

The Potion and Seed Farm section of the Gardening page flat out says, "If looking to have many spare consumable potions, Soil Farming is the only known time efficient method of doing so."

Why is that?

Regardless of how efficient you are harvesting plants (with dart traps, actuators, conveyer belts, etc.), it still seems to me that you have to replant the herbs. That means running from one end to the other. And that means running back (unless you use a teleporter). So it seems about as fast to run one way, harvesting with the Staff of Regrowth, and to run back while replanting.

I personally find planter boxes much more compact and much easier to move around amongst, since they are platforms.

I think the main advantage of Soil Farming is its lower cost when starting out, compared with Planter Box farming.

Could that flat out statement be softened? DavidForthoffer (talk) 21:10, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

A Question about Main Players and/or Most Favorite Vanity Sets.

Hello. Diekon here again with a rather trivial question. Do you mind if you can show an image of what your main character in the game looks like on any platform and/or an image displaying your most favorite vanity set (possibly both)? Thanks in advance. --Diekonradish (talk) 08:08, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

I should probably upload an image and add it to this page. My main computer is down right now, so I don't currently have access to my main character. I usually dress up like Doctor Who in a cowboy hat. – Ferretwings (talk) 08:17, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Awww thanks! Now, I should've told you this before, but the main reason why I signed up for this wiki and asked that question about NPCs with party hats because I produce various pixel arts of Terraria characters and whatnot. That day, I planned to make a piece involving the Mechanic with a party hat and that quirk kinda sorta stopped me from doing so since I utilized this trick where I can make a 2x2 into a 1x1 for convenience.

Many, many reasons aside, I got back to work and I figured that I need a catalyst helping me produce more works and please the people. You're doing us a fine service. Keep it up! --Diekonradish (talk) 17:23, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Welcome to editing :)
  • Go to the page you wish to translate.
    • If you wish, you can edit the page, select everything and copy it. (don't forget to cancel the edit)
  • In the address bar at the top, place a "/dk" at the end of the page url and press <enter>.
  • Then click "create this page". This will open a new page for editing.
  • At the top of the page, place {{project|Danish translation}}.
  • Either start from scratch, or paste the English page, and begin translating it.
  • Once you are finished, go to Terraria_Wiki:Projects/Danish_translation, and add the page title to the list. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:46, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Console version history - Old-gen won't get the reset

Hi, I'm one of the admins on Terraria Community Forums. It was recently brought to our attention that there is incorrect information in your recent edit of https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Console_Version_history.

The first entry there says that there will be a re-release of 1.2.4 for PS3/PS Vita/Xbox 360 by Pipeworks in Q2 2017. This is not so - there will be no further releases/updates for last-gen consoles. I believe you've misunderstood the information in the forum post you cited.

You can certainly contact a Re-Logic person (such as Loki) to confirm that, but I'm 99.9% certain those platforms are done with updates. TunnelKing (talk) 02:12, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Oops, mistakes happen, I guess. I'm not Ferretwings, but I've gone ahead and (hopefully) fixed it now. – KM100 (talk) 03:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
At https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/the-path-ahead-major-news-updates-for-console-mobile.47156/ it clearly states "Old Gen players will have to purchase a Current Gen copy" which I took to mean that the retail copy would include the reset, but not 1.3. Did they clarify it further down in the thread? – Ferretwings (talk) 12:51, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

That post has a lot of info in it, I can see how it can be confusing.

https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/the-path-ahead-major-news-updates-for-console-mobile.47156/#Oldgen

This part of the post talks about the old gen consoles, and clearly states that those devices will no longer receive updates past the final bug fixes to be released by Engine in September 2016 (which I think were the ones released in August 2016). Old-gen owners will be able to play this version until their device dies, it just won't get updates. As to whether old-gen console users will still be able to purchase this version going forward - I have no info on that; I think it's mainly up to the console manufacturers on that point.

https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/the-path-ahead-major-news-updates-for-console-mobile.47156/#Currentgen

The intent of the part you cite from this section is that old-gen players must purchase a new copy of the game for a new-gen console to get the 1.3 content and beyond. There won't be a 'new' release from Pipeworks that will only be 1.2.4 for old-gen consoles. Prior purchase of a version for old-gen does not grant them a free copy for a new-gen device - if they want to 'upgrade', they'll have to purchase a new copy.

I hope this clears up any confusion, and as I said before, you can always contact someone at Re-Logic to confirm that. My position at the forum is as a volunteer, so I can't speak for them officially. TunnelKing (talk) 20:01, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing that up. I hadn't considered that some current-gen console users may be running old-gen versions of the game. They probably should have worded it a little differently. Again, thanks :) – Ferretwings (talk) 15:35, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Bonus drops

Sorry, couldn't find quicker way to respond to your revert edit note, so I commented here. I just found out that slimes on mobile have bonus drops, just got some tungsten and a Recall Potion from two Blue Slimes. Awesome_Diamonds 13:29, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

We'll need to make a list of everything they drop on mobile. Thanks.
It's times like this that I get annoyed that mobile won't release their source code. It would be so much easier to verify stuff. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:34, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm on a slime rampage right now. So far, I think I have all of the potions (except the PC exclusive/multiplayer exclusive Wormhole Potion) and I have 3 of the ores. Awesome_Diamonds 13:45, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
The ores I have now are iron, tungsten, lead, and copper. Also, I agree about Mobile version Mobile and its source code. things would really be a lot easier. Awesome_Diamonds 13:46, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
I began a discussion on the Slime talk page. Lets continue our discussion there. There, you'll find mobile's growing list of drops (please remove any potions that the slimes haven't dropped) – Ferretwings (talk) 14:34, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

I'm glad to see you helping out on the wiki :). If you'd like to become an admin, first you need to create a Gamepedia account (or Twitch I suppose). Afterwards, you'll need to make quite a number of good edits to the wiki. It could be months before we decide you are a good candidate for an admin position. Of course we don't expect you to be perfect, but good grammar and spelling, and a decent knowledge of the game are necessary. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:21, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
You should acquaint yourself with the Rules and Style guide, and look over our Help page. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:26, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Gifs

Ferretwings: Are you any good with gifs? I have the software, but upon uploading it to the site, it seems to have an issue with the background. Shadowjared24 (talk) 19:50, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind. I finally got it to work. Shadowjared24 (talk) 19:54, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Know I have another Issue: the gif stops at the last frame and freezes. Do you know how to correct this? Shadowjared24 (talk) 20:09, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
It's been a while since I've done gifs. You'll probably need to tinker with the software a bit. Can you erase the background? It appears to be white. Also, which software are you using? – Ferretwings (talk) 21:09, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
I finally got it to work. It took a lot of playing around. SpriteMaker isn't very User friendly. I'll probably get some other program instead. It was requiring a Background. I tried to change the black to white to at least make it look better, but as for removing it, that will take more work. So far I am still at a loss. Thanks though. Admins are cool

    I know i've caused some "problems", but i didnt mean to do anything wrong, can we just put that behind us and become friends and maybe even make me an admin? it's alright if you hate me and just want to ignore this and ban me for asking, but just in case, I wanted to ask :) hope you have a great rest of 2k17 172.249.169.192 00:50, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

    If you'd like to become an admin, first you need to create a Gamepedia account. Afterwards, you'll need to make quite a number of good edits to the wiki. It could be months before we decide you are a good candidate for an admin position. Of course we don't expect you to be perfect, but good grammar and spelling, and a decent knowledge of the game are necessary. You should acquaint yourself with the Rules and Style guide, and look over our Help page. – Ferretwings (talk) 07:28, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
    OK, i'll check if I can make an account. I know a lot about the game and play on Desktop and Mobile so I can put info about both of those platforms as well as multiplayer :) thx for forgiving me. 172.249.169.192 18:34, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

    Sorry for short notice, this is Awesome Diamonds. I had gotten logged out due to some bug and tried logging in again with Twitch. It worked, and redirected me back to Terraria Wiki. However... I wasn’t logged in. It just re-redirected me to the login page. I clicked login again, redirecting me to Terraria Wiki... I think you get the point... Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thank you! Spell NPCs Redirect Page Delete

    I completely see where you were coming from there. However, are you able to change the broken Spell NPCs link to the Category:Spell NPCs link (without it becoming invisible) —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 13:25, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

    Do you mean a link like: Category:Spell AI NPCs? – Ferretwings (talk) 13:31, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

    Deleting Pages/Admin

    Forgive me if this comes off as an “Admin, please” sort of thing, but what are the steps to becoming an admin, if any? Or do I just wait to be recruited? Thanks for looking into this! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 22:42, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

    Also, I noticed that there are many undeleted files in the candidates for deletion, are those still not deleted for a specific reason, or have they just been out of for deletion later? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 22:42, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

    Also one final question: Are you able to link the cc, sc, gc, and pc templates to coins (so players can click the coin to go to the page about them)? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 23:01, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

    Pokecraftin

    So, I noticed a new user named Pokecraftin has been making some good edits on the wiki. However, he doesn’t have a user page, nor user profile page. Do you have an idea why and do you know how to fix it? Thanks for looking into it! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 18:05, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

    He/she does have a profile, but it doesn't link unless they have a user page. I'll create one. For future reference, after clicking on any name that is red (no user page), the link to go to their profile is one of the tabs at the top of the page (next to discussion). Chrisf1020 (talk) 22:33, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
    Some people prefer not to create a page. We have an admin who has been around a very long time, who is red-linked. He prefers it, and deletes the page every time somebody creates it. It's just a matter of personal preference. There is nothing wrong with a user account that is red-linked. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:57, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

    Help Needed

    As you may have noticed, I have been editing {{exclusive/sandbox2}}. I’m usually good at computer code and variables but wikis... I definitely fouled something up on the sandbox, would you know how to fix it? (What I was trying to do was add the expert variable, then once I was done with cleaning up the code, I would copy it to the real template) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 13:46, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

    Gifs

    Hey, ferretwings, do gifs (with the correct background and player) count as helpful edits? I made a gif for the Sunfury; are the details there good? If so, I can make more. Giga 5 (talk) 15:44, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

    Could you perhaps use a solid background? Most editors use a plain stone wall, which seems to be just dark enough for demonstrating light-emitting weapons. Also, if you make the test area a little bigger, we can get a better feel for the weapon's range. Thanks! :) – Ferretwings (talk) 05:06, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
    Once you get the hang of gifs, I'll add you to the list as a gif contributor. :) – Ferretwings (talk) 05:12, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

    Master Template Luminite and the Mobile version

    As you may have noticed, I have been messing around with the Mobile version and Template:Master Template Luminite pages. The Master Template Luminite template's function (hopefully) will be to combine the functions of {{Luminite}}, {{Solar}}, {{Vortex}}, {{Nebula}}, and {{Stardust}}. I definitely messed up somewhere in the code, so would you be able to fix it? Also, on the mobile version page I have been making edits to make the two (faulty) categories Mobile and Console and Mobile Only into three categories: Mobile, Console, and 3DS; Mobile and 3DS; Mobile Only. Thanks for looking into this! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:00, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

    I played around a bit with the Mobile page. I'm not sure if it looks better?
    I'll look at the Template:Master Template Luminite a little later. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

    Also, I may have found a bug in {{history}}: when multiple history templates have a version variable set, all of them have a section header. Is this intentional, or is it a bug? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 12:52, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

    The version parameter is only used to display the heading for the platform, so only use it on the top history entry. I can see how this could be confusing.
    Perhaps I should have it used separately, before each list of platform entries? like this?->
    {{history|version=console}}
    {{history|Console ###|patched again}}
    {{history|Console ###|patched}}
    {{history|Console ###|Introduced.}}
    Ferretwings (talk) 23:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
    That would definitely work, we'll just need to update the /doc —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:14, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
    Also, I noticed that you did some formatting on the mobile page, thanks! There’s still a minor thing (Ocram Mask) which is only console but is listed as mobile exclusive. Thanks again for your editing! (My messages spontaneously hop back and forth, apologies) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:24, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
    Edit: I just realized that that would completely defeat the purpose of having the parameter. (requiring an extra line break and basically takes as much work as adding a header) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 01:01, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
    True, it would require one more line. However, since entries are placed from bottom to top (the earliest entry being on the bottom), the way it is currently, with each new entry added, the version parameter would need to be erased from what was the top entry and placed in the new top entry. If the line with the header is separated from the other lines, the parameter would never need to be moved.
    The point of having the header line as part of the template is to create uniformity from page to page. – Ferretwings (talk) 02:09, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
    That is a good reason to keep the header (and also bots may find it difficult to edit if the new code above isn’t implemented).
    Speaking of headers though, maybe there could be a master history template which would work like this:

    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── {{master history
    | {{history|Desktop Update n}}
    | {{history|Console Update n}}
    {{history|Console Update m}}
    | {{history|Mobile Update n}}
    | {{history|3DS Update n}}
    }}}}

    Awesome_Diamonds 12:09, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

    And the actual inside code would be:
    {{#ifeq: {{{1|}}}|nothing||{{history}}
    {{{1}}}}}
    {{#ifeq: {{{2|}}}|nothing||{{history}}
    {{{2}}}}}
    {{#ifeq: {{{3|}}}|nothing||{{history}}
    {{{3}}}}}
    {{#ifeq: {{{4|}}}|nothing||{{history}}
    {{{4}}}}}

    ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 12:17, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

    Interesting idea. I need to see how it would affect a dpl I was working on. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:08, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
    I changed up {{history/sandbox}} and added a detector for headers using variables. Basically, a "version=" parameter can be input on every single history line and only one header would display. This could cause over-clutter in-code however, or just plain inconvenient extra typing. Below is an example:
    • 1.3.5: Lots of optimizations.
    • 1.3: Moon Lord added.

    Profile Comment

    Hey Ferretwings, I don't know if you saw my comment or not on your Profile, but I havn't heard back from you. Also, I have a question about files in user sandboxes. If a user hasn't edited in a very long time, is it alright to move a file without creating a redirect? Thanks, – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:23, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

    Sorry, I needed a break :). I assume you found a sandbox page that looked fit to be added to the wiki? If that is the case, you should leave a redirect, and a note on the redirect page explaining the move. The editor may or may not be back... if they do return, they may want to know where their work went. – Ferretwings (talk) 01:08, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
    I just read your comment. I wouldn't leave redirects of old image file names. I'll fix my sandbox so the filenames are correct. – Ferretwings (talk) 01:15, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
    Alright, Thanks. I'll get to it. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 04:42, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

    World article

    I noticed you had improved the world article, thanks! I'm however thinking the options list may still be improved, so here are two suggestions. Do give some feedback if you want. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 17:42, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

    (for the options, see page history)

    The bottom list looks a little cleaner. lol, it took quite a while to get that table to blend in, and you had to go simplify it. :) – Ferretwings (talk) 22:50, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
    Haha, sorry about that. Thank you for you hard work nonetheless! :-) On a side note I think I'll remove these collapsible tables and refer to the page history instead. When the page is loaded they are initially open and then collapse, causing the page to 'jump' a bit. Well, for me at least. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 00:50, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

    Template:Npc_infobox/de drop problems

    Hey there! I translated the "Npc infobox" template into German today by looking at the French source code (since the English one seems to be using a lot of CSS and I thought it would suffice creating a simpler code that results in the same design). Now they require a sub-template (same as Template:Npc infobox/drop) which is quite useful, managing the sometimes quite long list of drops and the grouping really well. That's why I decided a sub-template would be best for the German version of "Npc infobox" as well. However, there's something wrong the feature of grouping: The bottom line of the last item in the group does not appear correctly (see Wall of Flesh/de for reference) and I can't figure out why. Just testing out a few things and understanding what effect they have is not really possible since it's a template so I'd like to ask you kindly if you could have a quick look into it and understand what is wrong there. Thanks in advance! :) --Rye Greenwood (talk) 15:57, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

    So, a few weeks later and I was able to solve that particular issue (finally got to translating the original English Template:Npc infobox), and I am quite happy about the result. Unfortunately, however, there seems to be a new error: At the top of the infobox, just above the "Type" statistics, the text "</td></tr>}}" appears (take Skeletron/de as an example). It is rather obvious where that comes from, looking at the source code of the template: The three lines 84-86 (in "section statistics", between "type" and "environment") are exactly identical to the unwanted output. I tested a handful of tweaks but none resulted on the desired output. This seems very strange to me, since those characters are actually functional in the template and not some kind of "leftover braces" and in the English original, which literally contains exactly the same code (at least in that enclosed section), everything works fine. If this was not enough of a mystery yet, there is one page (Wall of Flesh/de) on which only two braces are displayed (instead of the "</td></tr>}}") - although the syntax of the input is similar to the other pages. I would greatly appreciate it if you could spare a minute to look into that. Thank you in advance! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 02:07, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
    I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner... I took a break from editing, but I'm back now. I'll take a look at the template and see if I can't figure out why it's doing that. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:29, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
    I might have fixed it, there was unmatched pair of curly braces in debuff2 handling. 86.115.19.146 08:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
    Thanks a lot to both of you for your assistance! It makes me very happy that the infobox is now working like a charm, it looks great! Really, thank you! I am not too used to working with dpl variables or dpl in general yet, so I hope you do not mind if I might have to request your help once more in the future. Glad to see you back at editing! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 10:10, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

    item infobox/sandbox

    Just an fyi, switching pages to use item infobox/sandbox, "breaks" dpl that use params from regular item infobox, forcing them to try to use /dpl.default subpages that usually don't exist, which causes visible errors. I switched terra blade back to regular infobox(since there didn't seem to be relevant output difference), as part of a swords page dpl fix, but there's still north pole page that uses sandbox variant, and some other pages that use infobox/sandbox1, although I don't know if they're listed by dpl on any page. 86.115.19.146 12:10, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

    Spider minions

    Some time before you fixed an edit in armor page, with spider armor set bonus as you said "unnecessary edit".
    I wanna tell you that info placed on wiki (full spider armor set gives additional spider minion) is false, and was fixed on their pages (Spider Armor one doesn't metion that, as it shouldn't, and Spider Staff explains why you can summon more spiders)

    If you don't belive me, go on and test for your own with Imps, Spides, Spider Armor and Bee Armor (with and without the Bewitching Table)

    I did my testing, and it shown that:

    1. With Bee armor (without table) I can sumon 3 imps or 3 spiders.

    Capture 2017-04-01 00 55 24.png

    2. With Bee armor (with table) I can summon 4 imps or 5 spides(!).

    3. With Spider armor (without table) I can summon 4 imps or 5 spiders(!).

    Capture 2017-04-01 00 57 36.png

    4. With Spider armor (with table) I can summon 5 imps or 6 spiders.

    Capture 2017-04-01 00 58 40.png

    Hope information from my tests shown enough, don't belive me, test yourself.

    Sincerely --Some Dude (talk) 17:53, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

    I'll need to check the source code to see how it's being handled. The images you uploaded don't show the minions; a simple image with you in armor, and all your minions out would have been better. btw, your edit to the Armor page added a bunch of code to the table... was it intended? If not, were you using Visual Editor?– Ferretwings (talk) 19:05, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    If I added every picture with minions instead of statues that would be a long mess. About added code I didn't knwo cuz I know only info I need to change, not realy how to, and I forgot what I was using
    sorry if I cause too much problem --Some Dude (talk) 19:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    No problem, i tested it myself and confirm that it's not a armor-based effect. This comes after using the Stardust armor with all accessories-related minion capacity equipped and bewitching table, which spawned 13 spiders. Didn't test crows but it would have been 11 of them with the equipment detailed above. Murrayzero (talk) 20:18, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    This means you that you'll be with me to keep info about spiders correct,right? If so, that cool, if not, i guess I'll have to win this war alone. --Some Dude (talk) 20:31, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    Yes. I tested for proof and this is what i had: even with spooky armor i had 1 more spider than expected. I'll wait for Ferretwing answer before proceeding to remove that outdated info, for now. Murrayzero (talk) 20:33, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    Also small explanation of summoning process which I found out durring testing, player by default has 1 minion cell, every item which gives more minions gives more cells.
    when you try to summon, game checks if you have at least 1 free cell, if yes summons minion consuming that free cell, if no it resummons last summoned minion.
    and with spiders (example of bee armor with 3 total cells) you can only summon 3 spiders even thou you theoreticly summon one more (3-(3*0.75=2.25)=0.75) but because game can't find 1 free cell, it resummons last summoned spider instead. Also I hope :ReLogic doesn't fix this, cuz I dumped alot of time into those spiders and care about info being correct, also they're odd one out from all the minions (except twins, meaby). --Some Dude (talk) 22:10, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    Can you tell me where you found that in the code? I need to check how it handles rounding.– Ferretwings (talk) 23:14, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
    Nothing about the code, just manual testing, and ideas that came to mind which best fit the situation. --Some Dude (talk) 04:41, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

    code template tests

    Can I have a look at your tests? My guess is that you had = in the code you were trying to highlight, and didn't covert it to {{=}}, which makes parser treat that parameter as named. 86.115.19.146 06:50, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

    It was a css issue. Apparently, the <pre> background was getting defined along with the {{code}} background. Fixed. But now I'm wondering if the syntaxhighlight should even be used for code, perhaps it should have it's own template. – Ferretwings (talk)

Sure, I can add flasks. Unfortunately, they'll (likely) have to have their own category, rather than falling into the existing ones. This is because the graphic was not made by hand but instead generated semi-automatically via this. Adding potions to existing categories and keeping the pixel-perfect regular placement of the images would take more work than just adding a new category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quelklef (talkcontribs) at 13:13, 9 September 2018

    Edit: flasks added. --Quelklef (talk) 13:33, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

    I've been looking over the coding. That took quite a bit of work, thank you :). – Ferretwings (talk) 02:33, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

    Infobox translations into Hungarian

    Hello,

    I'm trying to translate the infoboxes into Hungarian, but they seem really complicated and I have no idea what parts should be translated without messing up the links and redirections. Thexus00 (talk) 07:26, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

    I found the Discord server in the mean time, so I managed to translate a bunch of templates. Thexus00 (talk) 16:01, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

    Redirect

    Hi! Can you create a redirect called «Template:Listaref» for {{Template:Reflist}}? This will be used by Spanish users. --190.206.155.52 19:37, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

    Thank you very much. --190.206.155.52 19:41, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
    No problem. My apologies for the recent rollback... I neglected to check if it was a translated page. – Ferretwings (talk) 19:46, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

    Bone key discussion

    Before I just go and edit what you did I want to talk to you about it first, respectfully, and ask that you understand why i would. The key does not have any look-alike to the key that it is referring to, i also looked up “old fashioned key” like you suggested and found none, that were similar. I would like to ask you to either edit “old fashioned key”, OR delete your said comment, as i find it has no value to the Video game “Terraria” I hope im being respectful, im not going to just DO IT ( again ), i am explaining it more thoroughly, and i wish for you to understand. ( I also have the same concern over the “fart in a jar” london plague reference, as i dont see how it is concerned with “Terraria”. ( on any system )

    i am not here to embarrass you, but it seems you did to me when redacting my “bone key”edit. Again i feel the reference had no part of the game( Terraria) but just to be useless info that helps no one “inside” the game of Terraria ( as it has nothing to do with it). I will edit it again if i am not responded to in kind by 3 days( 10:00 Thursday ) I believe that is an adequate time for you to respond. Respectfully, PatriotGRiMM Patriotgrimm (talk) 04:58, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

    The Trivia section is often used to associate Terraria items with real-life items. You will find many instances of this on the wiki. Often, it will be described where the original name is derived from. The Trivia section will never help the player with the game; all helpful information is found under Notes and Tips. If you ever find Trivia that helps you with your gameplay, please move it under Tips.
    Skeleton keys do not look like regular keys, as they do not have a serrated blade. They only have the bow (grip/handle) and the bit protruding from the end of the blade. In some skeleton keys, the bit is protruding from the middle of the blade. The Bone Key's blade is not serrated, and only has a small bit protruding from the end of the blade, therefore it is akin to a skeleton key. – Ferretwings (talk) 12:56, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

    DPL3 documentation

    Could you please just move this to the help wiki and work on it there? Waiting "until it's done" is a fool's errand — Game widow (talk) 14:28, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

    I can do that. Some editors have requested that the old Gamepedia manual remain in place. Should we have two versions? – Ferretwings (talk) 16:43, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
    If you want to leave an old version here, that's fine by me, but I give you full authority to update the one on the help wiki. If you require any extra rights to do that, just let me know. I prefer just one good version on the help wiki — Game widow (talk) 17:09, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
    As it happens, we are revamping the help wiki, so this is the perfect time to move your stuff over. Please note that the pages on the help wiki have been moved out of the DPL namespace and into the Extension namespace and the capitalisation of the page titles has been standardised. Please follow the style established there if you add any new pages and if you can't find a page, feel free to ask me — Game widow (talk) 13:37, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

    BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE TERRARIA WIKI

    Sneezeblessu (talk) 11:18, 16 March 2020 (UTC) Sneezeblessu (talk) 11:18, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Hello there!

    I just wanted to say a huge thank you to anyone and everyone who contributed to the terraria wiki. It has honestly been so helpful and I'm amazed by how detailed and extensive it is! I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to be showing my gratitude! I've been looking around trying to find ways to contact anyone who may have added to the content here just to say that I appreciate what they've done! Seems you are the only admin under the title "content team member" so I thought it would be best to type this here. If you know anyone else who contributed please let them know I appreciate them! If this was an inappropriate area for me to write this go ahead and delete it!

    I hope you all have a wonderful day.

    I'm new, making sure I didn't do anything wrong.

    Hey, I was the one who added that Trivia section to the Snake Charmer's Flute, I wasn't logged in at the time, just making sure I didn't do anything wrong since the IP was blocked and the change was marked as vandalism. I'm sorry if what I did was marked as such, I really wasn't trying to vandalize or anything. Yellowninja238 (talk) 17:21, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

    https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Phoenix_Blaster On the right side of this page it says invalid EIcons but only when not logged in.
