Vanity Slot

The Lavaproof Fishing Hook can't be placed in an accesory vanity slot. That a bug? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aurelian Wolf (talk • contribs) at 02:26, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

No, it isn't. Some items cannot be placed in vanity slots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.150.173.245 at 17:59, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Combining

The Lavaproof Fishing Hook can't be combined with Golden Fishing Rod, pls, delete this article — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.150.173.245 at 17:59, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Reworded the note. It meant that players could use the golden fishing rod with the lavaproof fishing hook, not exactly that they could be physically combined. Also, in the future, please sign your comments with four tildes, like so: ~~~~. This will allow other users to know who wrote the comment. --2057clones (talk) 19:14, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Is this info actually true, and where did it come from?

This statement: "However, using both the Hotline Fishing Hook and this item increases catch frequency in lava by more than 50%, which may be preferable to the slight fishing power bonus."
doesn't seem to be explicitly stated/indicated/hinted at anywhere in game, all the item tooltips say is that they "allow" fishing in lava, not that they improve lava fishing/catch rate in lava (unless that's just a case of poor choice of words/semantics on their end). Can someone verify this information, and provide a source (either directly from the code or an official statement by the developers) if it is in fact true? It is mentioned on the Fishing page that combining at least two out of lava-proof bait/Hotline Fishing Hook/Lavaproof Fishing Hook has a positive effect on catch chances (first mention is at the bottom of the Requirements section, somewhat vague, and second mention is in the Catch frequency section, as part of the technical explanation). I can confirm that the information provided there is accurate as of Desktop version Desktop 1.4.1.2, the relevant methods are Terraria.Projectile.AI_061_FishingBobber() as well as Terraria.Projectile.FishingCheck(). The default catch counter threshold of 660 is reduced to 420 with said items, which is equivalent to an increase in catch frequency of 57%. However, the catch counter threshold is always 660 for the first time; it is only reduced to 420 after a roll failed for the first time, which reduces the 57% by some points, and taking into consideration that we're dealing with one of Terraria's many RNG-laden mechanics and can only talk about averages anyway, I suppose "+50% catch frequency" is somewhat accurate. I haven't inspected the revamped 1.4 fishing code too closely yet, though, so I may very well be missing something.
Lastly, it doesn't really surprise me that this is not mentioned in-game. This wouldn't be the first case by far – take Luck for example, an entire mechanic that's completely hidden save for a couple of imprecise quotes from the Wizard. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 18:57, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Consol

I am pretty sure I found this item on consol within the last month on the Xbox version. Has anyone else encountered this? CursedAngler (talk) 06:11, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
