Whip made from Hallowed Bars

There is also one made from hallowed bars- Durandal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.254.11.228 at 01:03, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Melee speed doesn't seem to affect length

Baconfry on the forums said that melee speed doesn't affect length. I experimented by adding and removing the celestial shell, and nothing changed. Are we sure about this information?Mathbrush1 (talk) 21:47, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

After testing some time with a Durandal and Berserker's glove on target dummies it seems that melee speed actually increases the range of whips, though it would be better if someone else tested it too to compare the results KerberosZwei (talk) 23:11, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
After further testing I came to the conclusion that while weapon speed modifiers indeed reduce the range of the whip, other melee speed bonus such as accessories or buffs, don't affect the range, making them viable KerberosZwei (talk) 01:18, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Is melee speed modifiers affecting length intentional?

Speed modifiers affect whip length, is this intended by devs considering other melee speed bonuses do not affect length. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scoops gp (talk • contribs) at 19:11, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Damage reduction verification

Verification - Piercing damage indeed decreases for each successive target hit, similar to the way piercing bullets and arrows work. See attached image. Andrux5123278 (talk) 20:30, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

New whip from 1.4.1

New Whip from 1.4.1. Named: Spinal Tap. Rarity: Green. Crafted from 90 bones and 55 cobwebs at a workbench. Sofareader (talk) 20:39, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Melee speed no longer influences whip length in 1.4.1

As you can see in this video the speed modifier no longer appears to influence whip length, at least to any substantial degree. I use the Leather Whip and the Kaleidoscope, with one Sluggish modifier and one Legendary modifier for each. We would expect the Legendary whip to be substantially shorter than the Sluggish one, but that is not the case. In the case of the Leather Whip, the Legendary one is actually slightly longer.

This is experimentally proving the changelog posted by Re-Logic: - Fixed an issue where size modifiers on Whips had an inverse effect on speed, meaning big whips were always slow and small whips were always fast--Montylfp0451 (talk) 18:14, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Whip length in 1.4.1.2

Though the changelog said that melee speed no longer affects Whip length, it appears that size modifiers have no effect on whips. I've tested whips with No Modifiers, Sluggish, Light, Massive, Tiny and Legendary, and found that while size modifiers didn't actually increase whip length, speed modifiers still have a minor effect on it(only increasing/decreasing the length by less than 1 tile, the differences are so small that they can be ignored).

Edit: Melee Speed doesn't affect range either. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 02:40, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

whips

why do we have all separate pages for all the whips AND this page that covers them all? Why don't we just make all the individual whip pages redirect here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PS420 (talk • contribs) at 19:01, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

I would assume this is because whips are weapons, and on top of that mostly unique. Weapons have fleshed-out pages for each individual one. A Whip's page covers obtaining, function, shows a demo GIF, etc... A single page to cover them all would be cumbersome — you'd need a whole gallery of GIFs and a long description for each one. Even the Wooden Sword and its derivatives have their individual pages for completion, despite being anything but unique. It's just a standard (I guess). Wings and Minecarts, for example, are able to have a single page because only a few of them behave differently. (Hooks have been debated before, as have wings, but it seems like right now they're all in one.) Would you rather read about the Cool Whip, to learn about its features and methods of obtaining, on this page, or on its own page? Also, remember to sign talk comments with ~~~~ so others will know who wrote them. 2057clones (talk) 19:19, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
That's right. Group pages like this one are also for listing and comparing all members of that group, and describing their common features. Random example; if a player sees the Leather Whip in the Zoologist's shop inventory, but can't buy it due to insufficient funds, they might go on the wiki and read about it. Then they might get curious about what other types of whips there are, so on this group page they see a neat list with all relevant information and can read up on the details on each whip's page, as 2057clones said. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:29, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Snapthorn has incorrect amounts listed for crafting

^ It says it takes 3 Jungle Spores when it takes 12. The correct amounts are listed on the item page. XepherTim (talk) 07:46, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

This was a simple caching issue that's resolved now, thanks for reporting! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 07:50, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Whip Ranges

Why are the ranges of the whips not listed anywhere? I could have sworn when 1.4 first dropped, the wiki had ranges in tiles for each of the whips because I remember reading through them and thinking that the Morningstar was both slower and shorter than the Kaleidoscope but did more damage, a fair tradeoff. I feel like knowing the ranges would be a pretty important part in deciding if the grind for the next whip is worth it for some players. BratG7 (talk) 19:24, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

That's true, the ranges used to be listed here. They were removed in this edit, but the editor did not provide an explanation for the removal, so I went ahead and restored them. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
