|} The Eye of Cthulhu is a Boss monster that the player can fight. It can be summoned by creating a Suspicious Looking Eye at a Demon Altar. In order to summon the boss, it must be night; otherwise, nothing will happen. It is also possible for it to spawn soon after the message "You feel an evil presence watching you" appears. This happens when the player has at least ten hearts, hasn't defeated the Eye of Cthulhu before, has at least 4 NPCs and is on or near the surface. This boss has been described as the easiest by the game's developers.

Strategy

The Eye of Cthulhu acts like a larger Demon Eye, flying around and trying to ram the player, often going through walls and underground. Because of its large size, it is recommended that the player brings a gun or bow to the fight, as the player can jump and dodge while constantly hitting the Eye.

A good area to fight the Eye is high in the air on a long platform, so when the Eye flies downwards, you can still attack it with ranged weapons.

You can also fight on a flat ground area, if you want to make the match even easier, you can add a lava moat stretching somewhere between 15-30 blocks one block beneath the top layer of dirt, and it will cause damage to the eye therefore making it a quick kill.

When the Eye starts to spawn Servants of Cthulhu, if the player stands still the Eye will position itself directly overhead. It is possible use this to your advantage by hitting it rapidly with ranged attacks, preferably one that passes through multiple enemies like Meteor Shot, Shurikens, or the Ball 'O Hurt. Not only will this damage the Eye of Cthulhu, but the Servants of Cthulhu that it spawns will be killed instantly.

When you first fight the Eye, Jester's Arrows will deal more damage than Unholy Arrows. However, once the Eye goes into its Second Form the Unholy Arrows do more damage than the Jester's Arrows.

After the Eye loses 1500 health, it will transform, replacing its pupil with a large mouth. In this form, the Eye of Cthulhu is faster, deals more damage, has lower defense, and no longer spawns Servants of Cthulhu. After it is defeated, the Eye of Cthulhu drops several items, including Demonite Ore, Unholy Arrows, Corrupt Seeds, Lesser Healing Potions, and some money.

It is worth noting that the Eye of Cthulhu, while it drops Demonite Ore, will not drop Shadow Scales, and some Demonite items (such as Shadow Armor and the Nightmare Pickaxe) cannot be crafted without Shadow Scales. Shadow Scales are dropped by the Eater of Worlds.

Notes

Eye of Cthulu appears after a long mining journey.
  • If you use the Suspicious Looking Eye after the message "You feel an evil presence watching you", it will summon 2 eyes at the same time.
  • If you are already fighting an Eye and use the Suspicious Looking Eye, you will instantly be killed, and the Eye will fly away.
  • If you die while fighting an Eye, the Eye will fly away.
  • If it turns day while fighting the Eye it will fly away.
  • In multiplayer, multiple players can die and the Eye stays, as long as there is always at least one player alive.
  • If you log out after the message "You feel an evil presence watching you" it will not appear.
  • It is possible to run away from the Eye, making it despawn.
