The next step

First draft is up, so now we need to flesh it out. We need specific strategies and combinations, complete with pictures and hopefully a video or two. MasterShizzle 06:13, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Great idea, are we going to remove the 'soloing skeletron' section from Skeletron? I think we should. --GauHelldragon 07:11, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, I deleted the redundant info from the main page and added a link here. We can just fill in specific strategies again as we go. MasterShizzle 14:26, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Dungeon weapons

Just to clarify: I'm fully aware that weapons like Muramasa and Phoenix Blaster are great to use against Skeletron, but their info belongs in the Dungeon Weapons section. I've expanded it a bit to say more about those weapons in particular. The main purpose of the guide, after all, is to help players who have not already beaten Skelly and gained access to the dungeon. So please leave dungeon-only weapons in the proper section. :-) MasterShizzle 22:10, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Remove strategies

There are quite a lot of strategies and some of them are like: get best possible equipment and just kill him. I think the point of the strategies is how to kill him when you don't have that equipment yet. (You don't need an strategy at all if you already have good equipment.) Therefore I think it would be good to only keep those strategies that would help killing him with average equipment. What do you guys think about those strategies, should we just remove them? --Icke 12:18, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

I'd be up for just removing them altogether. When I wrote the guide, the "specific strategies" section was just an afterthought, to keep the majority of edits in that section and leave the main guide alone. The guide is due for a major overhaul anyway, so I'll weed out the fluff when I remake it for 1.1. MasterShizzle 00:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Also don't forget the bewitching table is post skeletron. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.187.36 at 14:15, 30 April 2021

Split Strategies

Why not split the strategies into after and before the first Skeletron battle? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bullseye55 (talk • contribs) at 23:43, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

"Spawn point next to dungeon"

I'm guessing this was for multiplayer, under "general tips." My friends usually aren't on to help me, so I often have to fight bosses solo. I have full molten armor, and molten tools, and a flamarang. However, I put my spawn next to the dungeon, I died easily after destroying one of his hands (since I still don't have enough DEF to solo him easily) and when I died, he obviously fell through the planet, and the game returned to normal, no more boss fight. I can comfirm this - It's happened to me now twice, I was worried the first time that the old man might not return rendering my dungeon inaccessable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.50.175.28 at 04:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Regarding the singleplayer edit made just now, I have to say it's wrong. First time against this guy I built a house practically within view of the dungeon, and when I got my ass kicked (was wearing silver armor, swinging a gold broadsword iirc), I respawned and went right back into the fight. - Spinfx 07:51, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Do not swear on the wiki. (Edit: I deleted the swears.) 174.66.199.150 19:27, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Gear recommendation

Just wanted to point out the recommendation about boomerangs, i.e. Flammarang vs Thorn Chakram. Obtaining the Flammarang and molten gear requires you to survive mining in the freaking underworld; I don't get it. Sure, the Thorn Chakram deals 7 damage less (25 vs 32, roughly a third), but (1) crafting the Thorn Chakram doesn't require finding a prerequisite item (the Flammarang needs you to find the Enchanted Boomerang), (2) surviving in the jungle is a piece of cake compared to the underworld (you can't seriously expect me to believe otherwise, just look at the monsters in them), and (3) the chakram freaking bounces off obstacles, with a little practice you can make it hit stuff from weird angles like when you're behind cover.

The people posting in the section above mentioned they had molten gear even before entering the dungeon; I honestly think the difficulty is jungle>dungeon>underworld, so to the guys who have molten armor, I can't see how you're having trouble with this boss; by all rights you should be laughing off his pathetic hits. - Spinfx 07:25, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

dude, skeletron deals light damage, but he is so hard to dodge that, even with molten armor, he is still deadly because of the duration of potion sickness. The difficulty is definately jungle (very easy)>dungeon (medium)>underworld (medium~hard)>skeletron who is somehow pre-dungeon (very hard). Bone serpents are weak, the only underworld threat in pre-hardmode is the demon, unless you include the wall of flesh. 174.66.199.150 19:32, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Magic weapons not mentioned

No mention of any magic weapons at all, in fact it only mention magic users by suggesting using mana regen and power potions. I know there are very few magic weapons available at this time, but the article could at least mention the Bee Gun, Space Gun, Waterbolt or Vilethron/Crimson Rod. — Preceding unsigned comment added by @DeletedUser2211651 (talk • contribs) at 16:14, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

There are magic weapons listed, but they're all listed under "Ranged Weapons". The weapons category seems to be poorly organized in general, as boomerangs are mentioned under both ranged and melee sections. I'll re-organize things a bit. – KM100 (talk) 16:45, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
For my first try ever, I did pretty well by battering him with main force and massive buffs: The Star Cannon backed by the Bee Keeper and Crimson Rod, Spectre Boots, Hornet Staff, and Crimson Armor. (Along with all the available buffs: potions, Heart Lantern, Campfire, Star in a Bottle, Ammo Box.) This despite using the "wrong" kind of arena, that is platforms in an enclosed space. However, this probably qualifies under "if you already have the best equipment, you don't need strategy". It certainly felt like I wasn't trying anything smart, but this was after a lot of exploration and treasure-hunting, so I had the stuff. And without the Ammo box, my stack of stars would have run out, as I had less than 20 left afterwards. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:44, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Skeletron Guide (for crimson)

Ok, so first, u should defeat brain and eye of cthulhu, and king slime. (maybe also queen bee if possible) So get full Crimson armor, and a Harpoon from goblin army, and if possible, The Meatball and Blood Butcherer. Also try and get The Undertaker and Crimson Rod. So get a crimson bow, and some jester or flaming arrows. So talk to the old man and click Curse at night. Then use the harpoon for skeletrons arms. If his head spins, try and get a little farther away and use your bow. His spinning head does quite some damage. If he uses his arms to smack/slap you, use your meatball flail and/or your blood butcherer, because he is nice and close for you to attack. In his no arm only head form, use mainly your bow, flail, and harpoon. Now you can also use your crimson rod over his head. Use your undertaker and your bow if he head spins. Hope this helps. -Bluejay Gaming — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.211.118 at 18:52, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Explain the "Mechanic" section.

The Mechanic section is unbalanced - You have to enter the dungeon to save her. And to enter the dungeon, you must defeat Skeletron, who you are trying to beat. Okokup (talk) 18:40, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

That's correct, I removed it. Thanks for pointing it out. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:09, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Health problem

Help, even with this guide, I can’t seem to keep my health high enough to survive. I have weapons like the ice blade and armor like shadow armor (and tungsten boots because I don’t have shadow leggings) and I have 400HP but I somehow just can’t keep my health high enough to survive. I usually am limited to only lesser healing potions due to the difficulty of obtaining later ones, but the potion sickness debuff’s duration is too long, and even with 400HP and good gear I can’t seem to keep that health up. Note that my preferred class is melee and I am on the mobile version of terraria, meaning that I don’t have access to 1.4 content, only pre-1.4 (1.3 and earlier) content. I have the cloud in a bottle and rocket boots, too. I have a corrupt main world but if there is a good crimson-exclusive item that would help I am perfectly willing to obtain it from my crimson world. I don’t have access to queen bee drops or obsidian/hellstone because queen bee is too difficult for me for the same reasons as skeletron, and obsidian/hellstone is too difficult and dangerous to obtain because of the lava. I am limited to pre-hardmode because of the wall of flesh, but if there is something else I can obtain from the underworld, it’s fair game. In fact, any pre-hardmode items fitting these restrictions are fair game, even ones from space. Also, note that I have no grappling hook, and that I have not discovered any sky islands yet, but I am willing to search for one. I can obtain anything obtained from the eater of worlds, king slime, or eye of cthulhu, but that’s a lot of work. The brain of cthulhu and queen bee are a bit too tough for me, though. I am willing to go obtain expert mode items and bring them to my main world and use them, however, I am NOT willing to build a big platform structure and fight him there, I can fight him on the roof or in the front room of the dungeon, though. I also need something to take out his hands and then his head quickly. The spin attack and the hands are hard to dodge, though I would rather face the only head constant spin than skeletron with hands. And I don’t have that big of a time restriction, I think I would be able to take out his head before the sun comes up, but I still need some extra damage and some things to stop me from dying. If hardmode-exclusive items are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, then you could give me some queen bee tips so that I could obtain beenades and use them on the wall of flesh, but I don’t think I’m ready for hardmode yet. But I need to do something, I’ve been stuck on skeletron for way too long. Help. (Note that I am on singleplayer) 174.66.199.150 18:43, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
