Shooting through walls

I have changed the information on the star cannon because when I was playing terraria I found it can shoot up to through up to 3 blocks anybody can change/correct it if i'm wrong.(I recomend somebody testing this because I tested this last in 1.0.3. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Epicslime1708 (talk • contribs) at 18:26, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

I just tried shooting it at a single-block wall and it wouldn't even go through that. What is this meant to look like, does it just keep going through the wall? Is it meant to happen every time? Maybe they fixed it in 1.0.4. 78.105.8.153 12:33, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
You must be hugging the wall and it is only 2 blocks I was wrong. It is because when you fire the cannon you stick your arm out, and also when you drop it it is huge like the minishark. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Epicslime1708 (talk • contribs) at 13:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Bug Report

The damage in the tool-tip is wrong. I used the star cannon to destroy a green slime (zero defense and zero damage reduction), and it dealt 59 damage. Surhotchaperchlorome 17:11, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

did you have molten armor? it boosts damage. 96.13.55.109 17:33, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
I have a feeling the star cannon suffers the same bug as the blowpipe. The ammo probably uses the default damage value of "-1", decreasing the damage from 60 to 59--GauHelldragon2 18:13, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

1.0.6 Damage

In my game the Star Cannon is listed as having 68 base damage, would someone update this page? R3ven 02:28, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I just checked, and wearing the FULL set of Necro armor does indeed increase the base damage to 68. (one piece of Necro = 62, two pieces = 65). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.127.208.174 at 02:43, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
if (this.type == 197) {
	this.damage = 60;
}

100+ damage

I'm pretty sure this is possible without hacking: Demonic star cannon, 4 menacing accessories, menacing ranger emblem, Hallowed Helmet and Greaves and an Adamantite Breastplate should get you over 100 damage per shot, without hacking any modifiers. --173.181.23.245 17:40, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

55 base damage, 15% extra from demonic, 5*4% from menacing, 15% from emblem, 15% from helmet, 6% from breastplate, 7% from greaves gives: 55*(1+0.15+5*0.04+0.15+0.15+0.06+0.07)=97.9. --0icke0 (talk) 18:09, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
That's not quite how damage is calculated in the game. All modifiers are summative, except the ones on the weapon themselves. ie: 55 base. plus 15% weapon bonus is 63 damage. Now apply the modifiers from the armour and accessories (15+6+7+15+20 = 63). So 63 * 1.63 = 102.69, which rounds down to the 102 damage seen in game. Try it. I'm not gonna revert my edit back, I don't feel like starting a war. --173.181.23.245 18:42, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm, seems I reverted too soon. I tried it and it indeed worked. I'm sure I've tried this before, but I clearly did something wrong. My apologies. --0icke0 (talk) 10:04, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
No worries, I'm glad we got that sorted out, thanks. --173.181.23.245 17:15, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Have players actually verified that bug where Stars (ammo) get mistaken by the game for Fallen Stars? Because Fallen Stars do 1000 (one thousand) base damage, and 100+ damage (one hundred plus) from the Star Cannon seems far too different for the game to mix them up. 173.228.18.15 03:31, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I can confirm that this does happen, though the specific mechanics of it are beyond me. ShinyMoogle (talk) 22:50, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Critical Hits

The Star Cannon appears to be unable to inflict critical hits for me as of the latest version. Can someone verify that this is the case and I'm not just absurdly unlucky or have something odd going in in my game files? ShinyMoogle (talk) 22:50, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Type of ammunition?

Are Falling Stars considered to be bullets, rockets, or arrows when it comes to the Shroomite Armor bonus? 76.10.62.7 02:38, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately they do not count as any of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.33.15.216 at 13:32, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Conflicting information

At one point on the page (the info box template) it says the damage is 55, but at another point (the first section), it says "It deals approximately 65-90 damage per shot without modifiers". How is this possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macks2008 (talkcontribs) at 06:11, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Note the conversations above. It's possible, but not in any way that's useful for the wiki page- these estimates almost certainly included damage bonuses from armor, accessories and buffs. In an ideal testing environment- a vacuum, that is- it's literally not possible. Most "good" weapons are rife with these sorts of pro tipz from the top players at the Nintendo help hotline and in desperate need of a good copyediting, but I try to refrain from that because I can go a bit overboard with chopping off information sometimes. Nonetheless, since I'm up already I'll remove those claims in this case and clean the page a bit. Gearzein (talk) 06:27, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Don't sell yourself short. I think you're quite good at copyediting, from what I've seen. I sometimes make sweeping changes and tweak things after other people edit -- which, since I'm an admin, can perhaps be intimidating. But really, people shouldn't feel they need to shy away from big edits just because they don't think they can do it "perfectly". The fact is, most of my edits are not administrative actions, and my content decisions shouldn't be considered the final word -- generally speaking. I'm collaborating on content along with the rest of you. Anyone should feel free to tweak my edits as well. Equazcion (talk) 07:16, 13 Jan 2015 (UTC)

1.3.5.3 PC

On PC, as of 1.3.5.3, the Star Cannon does 55 damage. No photographic proof, but I just crafted one and the tooltip says it does 55 24.217.154.157 16:32, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Uhm, yeah. I can confirm that Star Cannon has 55 base damage. Not sure where did this 57 come from (Celestial stone increased that to 60, so i can rule that one out quickly). I'll edit it. Murrayzero (talk) 17:16, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Wow, that error has been there since 2016. Oh my. – Ferretwings (talk) 19:42, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Shoot through walls

The star cannon can shoot through walls. I tested it and came to the conclusion that the projectile starts two bloks out from the player when shot in any cardinal direction. Maybe we can add that to the "notes" section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.217.154.157 at 18:35, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Yes, apparently this has even been discussed already (see above). I added it after confirming that it does reliably work. Thank you for pointing it out! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 22:36, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

This and the super star shooter have conflicting information

This Article states that "On the Desktop version Desktop version, it can be upgraded into the Super Star Shooter in Hardmode." but the Super Star Shooter article states that "It is purchased from the Traveling Merchant for 50 Gold Coin.png, after defeating any Mechanical Boss."
