Issues

Most of these are subclasses not classes. The only main class is summoner. What about adding general melee, general ranger, and general mage? Also it gets confusing because there are tabs in weird places. For example there is a melee tab then (I think) three subclasses. The subclasses are in the exact same font of the titles below them saying stuff like “blood moon” or “pre-bosses”. Then there is a tab that says “rogue” I’m fairly sure that’s a subclass. Then I remember seeing an out of category subclass or maybe it was that mage had no collapsible title. But this page is pretty messed up Theextroardinary (talk) 16:03, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

This guide is about different flavors, and thus, it's about specific subclasses. I do agree that this page is not very clear on it's purpose, and that it should be expanded. Althrough, if you want a generic Class setup recommendation, you would see Guide:Class setups. I'll see if i can make it more clear it's purpose, and increase it's visibility so that more people can edit it. -- Murrayzero (talk) 16:19, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Merging the sentries and minions tabs

They both do summon damage, and have the exact same mechanics, they are just summon subclasses. Also sentries doesn’t even say anything, so can we agree that they should be merged 84.66.189.79 20:10, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Change of name

I think it should be changed to Guide:Challange Playthroughs and should include other types of chalanges like starting in hardmode, no accessories and other things along those lines.

Assuming this is meant to be an open discussion (pretty major proposal) I give my 2 CC: I oppose this decision. [Hey, if this isn't how to handle discussions about changes like this, someone let me know!] My reasoning is that this is already a large and incomplete guide. Playthroughs are contributed to by many people because it's a large undertaking to describe progression for every subclass. If anything, I think the page should be cleaned up somewhat, but that's something that would take a long time. Just to summarize, I'd say the page is under enough work already. (Guide:Ideas maybe? I don't quite remember what's there but it's sort of a jumble too - Terraria being what it is, "ideas" are going to be hard to create a guide for.) --2057clones (talk) 17:25, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
I agree. Guide:Ideas, specifically the Personal challenges section, seems to be just what you're looking for. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 19:27, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

We did it

This page appears to finally be finished, all classes and subclasses are finished up until when they are last used, and there doesn’t seem to be any misjudgements on boss fights. Well Bois, we did it. The page is complete. Iuhthesecond (talk) 20:20, 16 April 2021 (UTC) Not yet, im trying to complete sword section, and then maybe i'll try to fill up some of guns section. Removing sentries section

I've been trying to update this guide according to the notes. The best parts of the guide were always the instructions on playing the whole game (or as much as possible) with a single weapon subtype like flails or whips, while doing general class loadouts seems like it's better for the Class Setups guide.

For those reasons, I'm taking out the Sentries section, as it currently is less well-developed than other sections and has a blend of sentries and whips and, from reading it, seems essentially like a repeat of the Whips Only guide, with sentries doing very little.

Sentries

Early game and first boss Pre-Boss you don't have any sentry options, so for pure class playthroughs your only options for weapons will be the Leather Whip obtained from the Zoologist or any early game summoner weapons if you allow yourself to use those.

After beating the Brain of Cthulu or Eater of Worlds the Tavernkeep will be available, giving you access to your first sentries.

Old Ones Army tier one The best thing is to fight with whips until you get enough Defender Medals.

Your priority is now finding the Tavernkeep NPC, as he will sell most of your weapons, armor and accessories. Once you have found him, buy a sentry and prepare for the Old One's Army.

Your load out should be Bee armor from the Queen Bee or Obsidian Armor, which requires defeating the Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu. As your whip, the Snapthorn is the best option if you haven't defeated Skeletron yet. If you have, then craft the Spinal Tap as fast as you can. As accesories, the Feral Claws help with the autoswing, aside from some boots for mobility, and a Band of Regeneration for improved life regen. Also, the Shark Tooth Necklace from the Blood Moon, or the Stinger Necklace, if Honey Comb was dropped by Queen Bee (but it is also recommended using both the Shark Tooth Necklace and Stinger Necklace if you're looking for maximum armor penetration). Last, the Pygmy Necklace augments your minion capacity by 1 (only obtainable Pre-Hardmode in the PC edition).

When you're ready, battle the Old One's Army, and try to collect as much Etherian Mana as possible and keep summoning sentries. Try and stockpile Defender Medals so you can buy the tier 2 armor and sentries from the Tavernkeep, before fighting tier 2.

Wall of Flesh Once the old ones army is defeated, your next target will be the Wall of flesh. Your platform should be very long as this will be a long fight. Using the same load out as you did with the old ones army, farm the WoF until you obtain the Summoner Emblem and Firecracker.

Skeletron Prime Farm Black Recluses until you have full Spider armour and Queen spider staff. Alternatively you could use the Obsidian Armour for less defence but more damage output and any of the Tavernkeep sentrys.

The destroyer deals high damage and spider armour won’t be enough defense. The twins are agile and deal high focused damage , so that leaves prime. Use a cool whip to manually deal damage while also staying away from his limbs.

Old Ones Army tier 2 Those defender medals you’ve been stockpiling will come into use! Buy the next tier of your sentry and it’s respective armour, and craft a durendal with hallowed bars, and prepare defences for the old ones army.

While most of the enemies will be cleanly kept away from the Crystal, the ogre mini boss represents a real threat. As soon as he spawns, target him and kill him as quickly as possible. He deals high damage, so wings are a priority when fighting the event.

Once you have defeated the army, start farming it for the same reason as last time: stockpiling defender medals. The next set of gear will cost a lot of them, so you should stock a lot of them.

Old Ones Army final tier Buy your respective sentry, armour and accessory. Use fishron wings, papyrus scarab, Hercules beetle, a shield, a necromantic scroll, and if you are in master/expert mode, use a brain of confusion/worm scarf and a spore sack. This tier will be incredibly tough, so use as many traps as possible. Your whip should be a kaleidoscope, dropped from the empress of light.

The boss, Betsy, is very tough, on par with Plantera in terms of health, and the empress of light in terms of damage, so she should be your top priority when she spawns.

Lunar Events since there are no stardust whips or sentries, progression is not bound to stardust being first. So vortex will probably be your first target, as none of its enemies can travel through walls.

save your fragments to crafting stardust fragments and the lunar hook.

The Moon Lord Use a standard arena instead of a skybridge, and run around in circles while attacking with your kaleidoscope and summoning sentries. Use the nurse regularly and house the dryad next to her.

Once this behemoth is defeated, and it has dropped a rainbow crystal staff, craft stardust armour, and if you were on master mode, you have completed one of the toughest challenges in Terraria: a master mode sentry play through

Swords category slightly too big for small widths

As mentioned above, on mobile (portrait) the swords category is slightly too big to display all it's information (some of the sprites on the left are cut off by a pixel or two, (not actual pixels, but instead the pixels used in the sprites))

It also adds a bar to move left or right, which barely does anything because it barely needs it (also it still cuts off the sprites when fully to the left)

Is there a way to easily fix this without messing it up for other (wider) resolutions? A1 (talk) 19:58, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for reporting! The issue was that the boxes had the HTML attribute width, which doesn't respect screen width. Hence, the swords box (which had width=30em) was cut off on screens that are narrower than 30em. I've changed this to max-width and made the item list responsive so that the box only stretches to 30em if the screen allows it. As a side effect, the swords are no longer sorted in columns (A-M left, M-Z right) but in rows now (continuous), though I guess that doesn't matter much. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:34, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
