The Zoologist
The Zoologist is an NPC vendor who sells animal-related items and vanity. She will move in once the following criteria have been met:
She sells a large variety of vanity items, in addition to many mounts and pets, critter-themed accessories, and the Universal Pylon, depending on the Bestiary's completion percentage.
The Zoologist will transform into a werefox during a full moon or Blood Moon. Apart from having a different sprite and quotes, there is no difference between her normal and transformed state. When transformed, the Zoologist's minimap icon also does not change, and she will revert to normal at dawn (4:30 AM).
The Zoologist will defend herself against nearby enemies by attacking with her claws, with the color of the claw attack turning from green to red when she is transformed. She deals 15 / 22 / 26 damage at the start of the game, and gains various stat boosts as the player progresses.[1]

Shimmered form
When submerged in Shimmer, the Zoologist will transform into her Shimmered form. This has no impact on gameplay or dialogue and is only a visual change. She can be returned to her classic look by submerging her in Shimmer again.

Trivia
- Despite being comparably easy to obtain, the Zoologist has a 5 star rarity in the Bestiary.
- The quote, "I collected critters like you once, then I took a cursed fox bite to the knee!" is a reference to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with the often-repeated line "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee".
- The quote, "Oh, THESE ears? Haha, totes better to hear you with, my dear!" is a reference to the fairy tale of "Little Red Riding Hood", wherein the Big Bad Wolf responds in a similar manner to questions about his unusual proportions when disguised as Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother.
- The quote "This one time, at critter camp, I woke up one morning and everything was torn apart! Like, wow, how did I sleep through THAT?!" could be a reference to the 1999 comedy film American Pie.
- Several of the Zoologist's possible names are references to real-life individuals.
- The name Bindi is a reference to the real-life Australian zookeeper Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late conservationist and television personality Steve Irwin.
- The names Jane and Dian are references to real-life primatologists Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey.
- The name Lilith is a reference to Cenx and Redigit's daughter, also referenced by the item Lilith's Necklace.
- According to Redigit, the Zoologist is the Golfer's younger sister, referenced by some of her quotes.[2]
- The Zoologist is often referred to as
in Terraria's source code.BestiaryGirl
- The Zoologist will not put on a party hat when there is a Party, due to her fox ears.
- The quotes "I can't explain it. I have like, a thing for <name of Witch Doctor>. Is it because of the tail?" and "LOVE. STRONG... <name of Witch Doctor>. Yeeyee!" could suggest that the Zoologist has a potential crush on the Witch Doctor.
- The Zoologist has a unique quote for being in a loved biome while transformed: "FAVORITE LAND... <name of biome>. DELIGHT.". This quote cannot be legitimately seen in-game, since Santa Claus is the only NPC with a loved biome.
- The Zoologist's attacks look very similar to the attacks of the Terragrim.
- The Zoologist's sprite was designed by Lazure, and was first shown in a Twitter post by him.[3]
- The Zoologist’s Shimmered form is a revamped version of an old Zoologist sprite designed by Crowno.[5][6]
- Along with the Traveling Merchant, Princess, and Cyborg, she is among a small group of NPCs who sell a new item post-Moon Lord. The Zoologist's item is the Universal Pylon (the Bestiary must be completed for her to sell the item, which requires defeating the Moon Lord).
- Despite the Cyborg stating that their negative feelings are mutual, the Zoologist does not dislike the Cyborg.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Zoologist: "The Zoologist, resident lycanthrope, adores animals. Her fox-like biology resulted from a cursed animal bite."
