Achievement wording changes

Hey there! just noticed you changed the achievements on ores to include the proper wording and what must be done in order to obtain this achievement, just wondering if this is how you would like this done from now on? I have changed many achievements to match the correct wording. TOTORO01 (talk) 02:30, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that you wanted to include the in-game text, and I changed the {{achievement}} template so we could accommodate that additionally (instead of choosing one or the other). Before your changes, the wording was meant to show the requirements clearly, and I think it would be best to keep that in, since the in-game description is often more "entertaining" and doesn't always state the requirements clearly.
So yes, I think it would be best to do that from now on. The requirements go first, then the in-game text. I also edited the {{achievement}} documentation to reflect that, if you want to have a look. Equazcion (talk) 02:42, 1 Sep 2016 (UTC)

"Human" Resource list

I made a list of editors who help with info for various platforms, and some miscellaneous. I would like to place it on the Community noticeboard so other editors also have access to it. The list uses a template, which would become a sub-page for the noticeobard (just as now it is a sub-page for the user page it's on). Does this sound acceptable? That sounds good. Were you thinking of having this permanently in the header of the noticeboard? It's a little big, so I'd place it collapsed. I'd also note somewhere that users can remove themselves from the table if they choose, in case they don't want to be bothered. Equazcion (talk) 23:30, 4 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I was thinking of making it a permanent part of the noticeboard. I'm not sure how much of it I should collapse? I am annoyed that I couldn't change the font-color of the "click here...", nor center it. Unless there's something I simply haven't tried yet. Yeah, the collapse feature we have here isn't very versatile. I don't think you'd be able to customize the style of the collapse link, only alter the text. I made a centered version at User:Ferretwings/Platform Contributors2; I'm not sure if it shows what you were trying to accomplish. Although on the actual noticeboard page it might look better left-aligned, since everything else on that page is. We'd have to experiment.Equazcion (talk) 01:46, 5 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I wasn't exactly sure what kind of look I was going for, but that looks good. Having the "click here" all the way to the right was driving me nuts. I'll add it to the header tomorrow and see how it looks. If you feel it needs any ce, feel free to ce away :). Every time I touch it, I change something anyway, lol. I've had some editors look at it already, but I don't think everybody on the list has seen it yet. Front page change request

There is a biome simply labelled "snow" in the biomes section. When clicked you are brought to a redirecting page where you could either choose: 1. Snow biome 2. Underground Snow biome (for which there is already a link to on the main page directly below "snow") and 3. Snow Block. I think it would be best if we changed it to directly link to the snow biome page. Unfortunately I do not have permission to do this and I'm assuming admins+ do? The disambiguation page was really pretty unnecessary. I redirected Snow back to Snow biome (which is what it once did), so clicking any "Snow" link should now bring you straight to the biome. Most people clicking or searching the bare word are looking for the biome, and if they're not, the block and underground biomes are linked to right in that intro section for easy access. Help required for Dynamic Page Listing on Thorium Wiki

You'd first need the DPL extension (DynamicPageList3). See Special:Version to confirm your wiki's installed extensions -- I don't see that it's installed currently at Thorium Mod Wiki. You can contact Curse to request it. Equazcion (talk) 15:21, 27 Sep 2016 (UTC)

If you want to, you can. There's no rule against it. There's no specific feature for displaying a birthday or anniversary here, but you're welcome to type it out manually on your user or talk page. Nice signature yup. The leaderboard rank is nothing to worry about, probably just a minor glitch. I don't have any set hours here, I just go on at random spare moments these days, or when I'm notified of something urgent. I'm not a paid employee here -- just a volunteer like you. Where and how did you learn editing so well

Since I have become the guardian of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter wiki, I will need to learn a lot more to successfully grow the wiki, just wondering where you got all your knowledge and figured out how to use all these codes etc.TOTORO01 (talk) 07:25, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

I learned most of it over 5-7 years editing Wikipedia. I already had a programming/web design background which helped. If you're looking for something like a book or tutorial on wiki editing, I never used any, so I don't have recommendations there.
The best way to learn any type of coding though is by just doing it. Decide on something you want to accomplish and try to make it happen. Google etc when you need to. Since wiki code is all open-source, it's useful to take code from something similar to what you want to be able to do, and edit it, experimenting with how changes affect the result, which will help you understand what the different parts of the code do. Chinese Translation

Hey Equazcion, I was a Wiki Guardian on the old Chinese Translation Project, and since it has been moved, my status has been removed. I have not received any emails about inactive Wiki Guardian, and last time I can on I still had administrative privleges. Is my rank supposed to be removed? I'm not aware of any recent changes to either of the Chinese wikis. If you're referring to translation projects that used to be on the English wiki before being transferred off to separate language wikis, then you would've had to be a Wiki Guardian at English Terraria Wiki (here), and to my knowledge you weren't; so I'm not sure exactly what this is referring to. Rarity font

redirect from bar

For some reason i clicked on BarBar which redirects me to Tin Bar.png Bars, which is obviously wrong. So I looked at the redirect to see that you have changed the disambig tag to a redirect. My question is, do you remember why? In my mind most of the time if someone types bar in the search he will look for Tin Bar.png Bars. The problem with that is, if I am looking for BarBar, because than it is hard to find actual information on it. So if you do not have a reason, I would like to change it back to {{disambig}}. It's because, as you say, the vast majority of the time, people will be looking for ore bars, and Disambig gives them another step to click through constantly. There are many, many times more links to ore bars than to the bar furniture item. So we just have a notice at the top of Bars about the furniture item ("for the furniture item, see..."). Disambig pages are generally for cases where, most of the time, we don't know which they might be looking for.
Neither solution is perfect. Either way some people are going to have an extra step to click through. At least this way, most the time, they won't.
If we want to put effort into fixing this for the minority of cases, ideally it would be done by customizing the furniture links to go directly to Table, and adding the ability to do that into the Crafts template as well as some other templates. I don't have the time right now to add that feature to the templates myself (though maybe someone else can).
Of course, my word isn't the final one necessarily. You could start a discussion at community noticeboard on how everyone feels this should be handled, if you feel strongly. Equazcion (talk) 18:20, 24 Oct 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I will not change the redirect, as it is reasonable. I added an image to the Bars page as I find it easier to see what is meant and changed the links I could. What is left, is the links in the crafting tables, but it is not important to fix that, even if it would be nice :-).

logout

Registration problem

Hi Equazcion, I'd like to translate some articles for Terrarias Wiki 'cause im pretty good in english and german. I thought to register myself would be a good idea, but now im banned from registration because of spam. That happened because the usernames i would like to have weren't available so i tested four or five. You seem to have tripped an abuse filter that targets common spam bot names. While the name you registered is banned, you should be able to log out and register again with a different user name. You'll probably need to choose a name that doesn't take that form (NameName###). I don't currently have the ability to make exceptions to that rule. Equazcion (talk) 16:23, 9 Nov 2016 (UTC)

String Module Thorium Wiki

I was wondering if you could help us out over at the Thorium Wiki with the String Module. We had the DPL extension installed, but I'm not sure if we're missing any other dependencies.

I've done some research, tried some stuff, but to no avail. The page the module gives an out-of-range error on is the Bullets/dpl page, and will likely do the same on other pages unless we can get it fixed. Tymon80 (talk) 22:56, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

It was a problem with Module:String. I had to tweak ours originally as well, just something minor to return a default value instead of an error. I copied the change over to your String module and it appears to be working. Equazcion (talk) 23:32, 9 Nov 2016 (UTC)

If you mean the category that was generated for Bullets, I just got rid of that by performing a null edit on that page (see Help:Cache). The category was still there from the previous error and the cache just hadn't been updated. Equazcion (talk) 17:40, 12 Nov 2016 (UTC)

That's odd. I don't think that's supposed to happen. The category doesn't exist at Terraria Wiki or at Wikipedia, and both of their String modules contain the same line. I edited your String module to work around it, by separating the word "category" into two combined strings -- it doesn't appear to have worked yet though. The database may just need time to catch up, or there could be a deeper glitch occurring. I would wait a day or so and see if my fix takes effect. If it doesn't, and this category's existence is causing a problem for you (is it?) then you might need to contact Curse for help. Equazcion (talk) 19:44, 12 Nov 2016 (UTC)

Requirement for T2 of Old One's Army

Accidentally saved

I have seen that you have deleted Help:Canidates. 1 is that I made a typo - instead of candidates I put canidates and 2 is that if a page created by me doesn't quite look finished, I accidentally clicked save page instead of show preview. Understood, however that wasn't the reason I deleted it. The page wouldn't have served any useful purpose. You were taking the phrase "candidates for deletion" and trying to create a page describing all the various types of "candidates" that might be on the wiki. Deletion candidates are basically the only ones.
I suggested this before but I suggest you focus on smaller edits to existing articles. Don't continue creating pages or making other large changes as you don't quite have a firm grasp of how things work here yet. Equazcion (talk) 10:22, 22 Nov 2016 (UTC)

Levels are a measure of how good-looking you are.
Just kidding. If we're talking about the wiki's levels displayed on profile pages, that's just a measure of how much you've contributed to the wiki. That's what I'm assuming StardustDragonGuardian521 was referring to above. Contribs are assigned point values based on how big a change occurred on a page, and more points = higher rank. I don't think there's any way for users to see point values -- they can only see their current "rank" or "level" -- but admins can see how many points were awarded for each edit, and can adjust a user's current points total. One purpose of a template like {{delete}} is to add tagged pages to Category:Candidates for deletion, giving admins a list of pages to delete. Nocat keeps pages off that list when they only contain those templates for testing purposes. The template changes were to add the "nocat" parameter (me) and to tweak their look (leonard). Molten Pic

It says fast melee speed in the item infobox, so how can it be slow? I do not understand. If attack rate equates to melee speed, then it should be fast, not slow. (ಥ﹏ಥ) LordofEditing (talk) 00:38, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Odd file upload

User:Cyborgslayer321 uploaded an odd file yesterday, I thought they might use it for their profile or something but no other edits were made. Question

What is a steward? I saw it in your profile and just wondered what type of right a steward had. I know what a steward in real life is, just wondered what it is here on Gamepedia. LordofEditing =(Talk)= 08:09, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

I don't think it does anything on Gamepedia (at least not yet).
Steward is a rank that usually means a person has bureaucrat abilities (admin + assign user rights) on not just one but a whole family of related wikis. Stewards at Wikimedia have bureaucrat powers at Wikipedia, Wiktionary, WikiQuote, and several others.
Gamepedia uses MediaWiki, the same wiki software developed for Wikipedia etc, and steward is a built-in rank in that software -- only Gamepedia doesn't seem to have made it actually do anything yet, even though I was able to assign it to myself. Equazcion (talk) 08:46, 10 Dec 2016 (UTC)

Rules grammatical errors

Hey, Equazcion, I found 6 grammatical errors on the Rules page.

  • 5. and 6. 5 - In Terraria Wiki:Rules#Guides, first bullet point, add "the" before "individual". 6 - third bullet point, remove the comma after "linked," and before "unless".

The word "rumor" can be used in a manner similar to "speculation" -- eg. "What he's saying is speculation." "A speculation," just like "a rumor," would connote a slightly different meaning.
"Information" is a "non-count" noun, which can be singular or plural, depending on the context. In this case, saying "information ... should be treated as a rumor" wouldn't satisfy plural/singular agreement, "information" being plural and "a rumor" being singular. A couple of your grammar corrections above suffer from this issue, like "the" before "use" in your second bullet.
Commas go where pauses would occur in speech, which usually happens when a complete clause is followed by a condition. "We could take the car to the amusement park, if your sister isn't using it today." Those commas are fine, and advisable after a long clause. Your other suggestions above regard that comma issue. For the comma corrections: A complex sentence includes one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. When the dependent clause comes first, it is an introductory clause followed by a comma. When it follows the independent clause, no comma is needed. A dependent clause often begins with a dependent marker word, such as after, as if, because, even though, since, unless, or when.
For the determiner corrections (minus the "rumor" as both would work): An article (a, an, or the) is a type of determiner. Possessive adjectives (my, his, our), possessive nouns (Joe’s, mother’s), and quantifiers (each, every) are also determiners. Single countable nouns usually require a determiner.

That condition is used to determine whether the name is an IP address. If the first character is "not an illegal number" (meaning it is a numerical digit) then the name is likely an IP address and the script should go ahead with execution. The wanted page list is automatically generated and lists all red links that appear anywhere on the wiki (a link to a page that doesn't exist is considered a "wanted page"). All navigation templates are going to have red links to their own talk pages, when their talk pages don't yet exist. I don't know offhand. I took a quick look at the infobox code and most of the calls to "(placed)" images only occur if they are first determined to exist. Learning about wiki code

Hi Equazcion,

I'm trying to learn more about how the gamepedia wikis work to help in the blockhood wiki. I was looking at the source code for the main page (of the terraria wiki) and found by example this:

You can define them in MediaWiki:Hydra.css, or in MediaWiki:Common.css (common.css applies changes to all skins rather than just Hydra).
Just because a div has an id= or a class= doesn't mean that class or ID necessarily has styles defined anywhere yet. Boxes on Gamepedia's main pages usually have IDs by default, just for organization purposes, ie. to make the code more readable. Classes and IDs can also sometimes be present primarily for use by Javascript (but probably not in this case).
You could define styles that would apply to your div by adding a definition to Hydra.css, like this:
#mf-game {
   color:green;
   font-size:28px;
}
If mf-game were a class instead of an ID (<div class="mf-game">), you would add this instead:
.mf-game {
   color:green;
   font-size:28px;
}
A dot means a class, and a number sign means an ID. PS. The only major difference between classes and IDs is that IDs have to be unique, while multiple elements can have the same class, so they can all be styled at once. It should be fine I think, but I think you should post this proposal at Terraria Wiki:Community noticeboard first, just to see if anyone else has thoughts on it. The only concern I could see is too many banners, like, this would stack under the [platform]-only banners, and things might look crowded. The welcome page you tried to create is unnecessary, as this wiki already has a welcome page here: Terraria Wiki. Once you've created a user account, you will be able to create user pages, which you can use to store notes or whatever you want. User pages can also be used to play around with html and wiki code, wiki tables, image formatting, or whatever. I highly encourage you to create a user account. You'll also be able to set up your own Talk page, where you can ask questions, and we can ask questions of you. My Signature

I just had two more questions about the signature now that I'm finished tweaking it and shortening it: Is my signature still within guidelines in terms of display? It links to User:Awesome diamonds, but displays as Awesome_Diamonds. It says on the guidelines page that for User:BillSimpson, even BillySimpson is unacceptable.

Also, is the 256 character limit an in-code limit or visual limit (e.g. in code the sig is 300 characters but visibly it's 100). Thanks again for looking into this!

Before we go ahead with creating a new language wiki, Gamepedia likes to see that there's a commitment to the translations first. The best thing to do is to create translations for all the pages linked on the main page. Once that's done we can create the separate language wiki for Ukrainian.
When you do this, don't worry about infobox templates (those would need re-writing for /ua subpages to work). Just get the text translated. That should be enough for now, and we'll do the templates etc after the language wiki is created. Equazcion (talk) 04:07, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Hey, first of all, thank you very much for your support setting up the German wiki! It is mostly fixed and "ready to use" now, but I realized I would like to have the rarity level files translated. I tried making some on my own with the Andy font, but the result was not really satisfying...
