The Staff of Regrowth is a tool that can be found in Ivy Chests as well as Jungle and Bramble Crates. It increases the yield of herbs and their seeds when harvesting them and allows obtaining seeds from mature but non-blooming herbs. The Staff of Regrowth can also be used on Dirt Blocks to plant grass without the need for Grass Seeds. Unlike other tools, it will not break vegetation when swung, unless directly targeting the tile.
Its best modifier is Light for harvesting purposes and Legendary for combat purposes.

Notes
- The Staff of Regrowth will not destroy the following tiles when hitting them, unless it is used on them directly:[1]
- Flowers and weeds (including Nature's Gifts and Jungle Roses)
- Mushrooms, Glowing Mushrooms, Vile Mushrooms, and Vicious Mushrooms
- Regular, Jungle, Mushroom, Crimson, and Hallowed vines (flower vines are destroyed)
- Jungle Spores
- Herbs in all stages of growth
- Moss fuzz
- Cattails, lily pads, Sea Oats, and seaweeds
- Normally, destroying a herb yields the herb item and 1–3 of its seeds. The Staff of Regrowth increases this yield to 1–2 of the herb item and 1–5 of its seeds.[2]
- Herbs that are planted in a Clay Pot or Planter Box and are not blooming cannot be harvested whatsoever with the Staff of Regrowth. This is likely to prevent accidental harvesting of non-mature herbs.
- Using the Staff of Regrowth to collect Glowing Mushrooms will not yield extra Glowing Mushrooms nor Mushroom Grass Seeds.
Tips
- The Staff (or Axe) of Regrowth is the tool of choice to increase herb yields, especially from farming.
- When harvesting plants from Clay Pots and Planter Boxes, it will only collect blooming herbs. This guarantees a yield of seeds and also removes the danger of wasting a plant by accident.
- Over blocks, however, the Staff of Regrowth can force the full-grown versions to drop seeds. This is useful to get seeds for plants that bloom rarely, e.g. the Deathweed.
- When harvesting plants from Clay Pots and Planter Boxes, it will only collect blooming herbs. This guarantees a yield of seeds and also removes the danger of wasting a plant by accident.
- The Staff of Regrowth may grow grass on any Dirt Block, no matter how deep it is. However, grass has limited function in the Underground layer and below, as it will not grow weeds or Dayblooms, and Acorns will not mature.
- The Staff of Regrowth can be used as a trail marker in the Underground layer, as grass stands out well in the environment of grays and browns.
- The Staff of Regrowth can be used to indirectly spread Hallowed grass, Corrupt grass, or Crimson grass underground by growing grass near Pearlstone, Ebonstone, or Crimstone respectively.
- The Staff of Regrowth is useful for placement of Sunflowers in arenas, homes, etc. Sunflowers can be placed anywhere with just two grass-covered dirt blocks, and enough vertical space.
Trivia
- It is the only staff in the game that is classified as a melee item. The other items with staff in their name are either magic (e.g. Amethyst Staff) or summon weapons (e.g. Slime Staff).
- Prior to the 1.4.0.1 update, the Staff of Regrowth used to be able to grow moss on Stone Blocks. The type of moss would vary depending on the proximity to other types of moss present nearby, matching the one that was the closest. If there was no moss present within 27 tiles, then the type would be picked randomly.
- This feature was implemented following the suggestion of a player.[3]
- Moss was made obtainable in item form in 1.4.0.1. Since then, it can be placed directly and the Staff of Regrowth's function is obsolete.
