Kites are miscellaneous items that can be held by the player. A kite can be flown during Windy Days or if the player runs fast enough while holding it. It can be raised higher with Use / Attack and lowered with Open / Activate. Lowering a kite back to the player will make them put it away. As long as the kite is airborne, the player will get the High Spirits buff which will increase in duration until it maxes out at 12 minutes and 1 second. The buff has the following effects:[1]

  • +25% movement speed
  • +15% mining speed
  • +15% placement speed when placing blocks and walls
  • Up to +0.1 luck, depending on the remaining buff duration:
    • +0.1 with at least 9 minutes remaining
    • +0.067 with less than 9 minutes but at least 6 minutes remaining
    • +0.033 with less than 6 minutes but at least 3 minutes remaining
    • 0 with less than 3 minutes remaining

A kite can be placed on the ground from the hotbar with Open / Activate if the player is not currently flying the kite. The kite initially has some upwards momentum that carries it several blocks above the stake into the air, even on a calm day.

Types

There are 24 different types of kites, either dropped by certain enemies or purchased from NPCs. Kites obtained from enemies can only be dropped on Windy Days, or when the wind speed is over 20 mph.

Notes

  • Kites can pass through solid blocks.
  • Kites can be used on non-Windy Days if the user maintains enough speed, but are more difficult to keep afloat.
  • Kites can be used while riding a mount, or while flying. However, the player will appear backwards while the kite is in use.
  • The color of the Pigron Kite is picked randomly each time it is used.
  • Kites can be used in reversed gravity, but will retain their normal orientation.
  • If a player is AFK for more than 1 minute and has a kite in their inventory, their character will automatically equip the kite.
