The True Night's Edge is the Hardmode upgrade to the Night's Edge. It is capable of Autoswing.

When the sword is swinging, it will fire a bright green Night beam projectile at the cursor about every 0.86 seconds, dealing 100% of the swords base damage. The fire rate of the projectiles can be improved with melee speed bonuses.

The True Night's edge has the highest base damage of all pre-Plantera swords.

It's best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Animation of the True Night's Edge. Notice its inability to pierce.
  • Due to their similar properties and counterpart characteristics, the True Night's Edge can be compared to the True Excalibur:
    • The True Night's Edge does 30% more damage, but is only 50% as fast. The Light Beam, the glowing sword projectile fired by the True Excalibur, can go through one block-wide gaps, both horizontally and vertically, while the Night Beam can pass through solid one block-thick walls if standing directly adjacent. It cannot be fired vertically through ceilings or floors.
    • Because it spins, the Night Beam effectively hits more enemies than the Light Beam. However, the Light Beam can be launched more often and moves at a faster speed.
    • The True Excalibur has a 13.33% lower DPS as it may swing faster but has less damage than the True Night's Edge. Note that DPS is merely a rough estimate and far from being a reliable stat for comparison.

Trivia

  • The Night Beam seems to resemble a regular Night's Edge colored green, rather than a True Night's Edge.
  • Unlike most projectile swords, the True Night's Edge fires a spinning projectile instead of a straight one.
