Not to be confused with the Large Volcano and Mini Volcano, two furniture items.
The Volcano attacking a Skeleton and Target Dummies. The explosion from hitting the Skeleton hits the upper Dummy.

The Volcano is a pre-Hardmode sword crafted from Hellstone Bars. It lacks autoswing and has a slow swing speed, but it has the second-longest reach and second-highest damage of all swords in pre-Hardmode.

The Volcano creates an explosion upon hitting an enemy, dealing 75% base damage (30 base damage) to the enemy and all targets in an area around the enemy,[1] and has a 100% chance to inflict On Fire! for 3 seconds.[2] Each explosion creates a tall plume of fire and smoke particles.

The Volcano is one of the key ingredients in crafting the Night's Edge.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Tips

  • The Volcano's explosion and its high knockback make the sword an excellent choice for melee crowd control in pre-Hardmode.

Trivia

  • The Volcano has the highest base damage of all the swords used to craft the Night's Edge.
    • Its base damage is equal to that of the Night's Edge.
  • Through "usual" game progression, this is the last of the Night's Edge ingredients attained, requiring a trip to the Underworld and some hazardous mining. That said, it is entirely possible to make an early Underworld run and get the Volcano even before killing Skeletron and searching for the Muramasa.
