The Volcano (Fiery Greatsword on Old-gen console and
) is a broadsword crafted from Hellstone Bars. It lacks autoswing and has a slow swing speed, but it has the second-longest reach and second-highest damage of all swords in pre-Hardmode. It has a
50*1/2 (50%) chance to inflict the On Fire! debuff for 3 seconds and emits fiery light particles when swung.
On the Desktop version,
Console version, and
Mobile version, it creates an explosion upon hitting an enemy, dealing 75% base damage (30 base damage) to the enemy and all targets in an area around the enemy,[1] and has a 100% chance to inflict On Fire! for 3 seconds.[2] Each explosion creates a tall plume of fire and smoke particles.
The Volcano is one of the key ingredients in crafting the Night's Edge.
Its best modifier is Legendary.

Tips
- The Volcano's explosion and its high knockback make the sword an excellent choice for melee crowd control in pre-Hardmode.
Trivia
- The Volcano has the highest base damage of all the swords used to craft the Night's Edge.
- On
Desktop version,
Console version, and
Mobile version, its base damage is equal to that of the Night's Edge.
- On
- Through "usual" game progression, this is the last of the Night's Edge ingredients attained, requiring a trip to the Underworld and some hazardous mining. That said, it is entirely possible to make an early Underworld run and get the Volcano even before killing Skeletron and searching for the Muramasa.
