Status messages

Status messages display as chat lines in chat when certain conditions apply.

They all have one of the 7 colors that the game uses and a player can replicate them in chat using this formula [c/XXXXXX:]. Write the desired text to color after the colon and enter a hexadecimal color code in the place of "XXXXXX". For more see Announcement Box.

NPCs

  • When an NPC (excluding the Old Man and Skeleton Merchant(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)) spawns, the message "<Name of NPC> the <type of NPC> has arrived!" displays with a color of  #327dff.
  • On the Nintendo 3DSNintendo 3DS version version, when the requirements for an NPC have been fulfilled, but there is no housing for the NPC, the message "<Name of NPC> would like to settle down." may display.
    • There's also a unique status message in this version for unlocking a new recipe, displayed in orange.
  • When an NPC dies, the message "<Name of NPC> the <type of NPC> was slain..." is displayed.
    • When the Angler, the Princess(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), or a town pet(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) dies, the message "<Name of Angler/Pet/Princess> has left!" is displayed instead.
    • In both cases, they use the color  #ff1919.
  • When the Traveling Merchant(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) departs, the message "<Name of NPC> the Traveling Merchant has departed!" is displayed with a color of  #327dff.

Bosses

When most bosses are summoned, the message "<Name of boss> has awoken!" displays with a color of  #af4bff. When a boss spawns randomly on its own, without having been summoned by a player, the corresponding message below is displayed a few in-game hours before it appears:

Multiplayer

The player has toggled PvP.

The player has joined the respective team.
"<player name> is no longer on a party." The player has left their team.
"<player name> has joined."

The player has joined/left the world.

These messages are in the color of the player's current team:

Pylons

Some status messages are produced when pylons are not used properly, as per the table below. They all display with a color of  #fff014.

Message Trigger
"You are not close enough to a pylon to teleport with the pylon network" The player is more than 60 tiles away from any pylon.
"There are not enough villagers near that pylon to access it" There are fewer than 2 NPCs near the destination biome pylon.
"There are not enough villagers near the current pylon" There are fewer than 2 NPCs near the biome pylon near the player.
"Defeat the current threat before you can use the pylon network!" A boss or a hostile event is active.
"This pylon is not in the correct biome to use" A biome pylon is not in its respective biome.
"Ancient forces prevent you from accessing this location . . ." A pylon is in front of unsafe Lihzahrd Brick Walls before Plantera has been defeated.

Other

"Spawn point set!" Player presses Open / Activate on a properly placed Bed not yet set as their spawn point. The player's spawn point is set to the Bed's location, as long as the bed is in a valid house.  #fff014

"Beach Ball was hit <number of times> times before touching the ground!" The Beach Ball touches the ground after having been hit more than 10 times. Supports scoring a game played with the ball.  #fff014
"<player name> sunk the Golf Ball in a hole in one!"
"<player name> sunk the Golf Ball in <number of strokes> strokes!"
The player hits a Golf Ball(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) at least once, which lands in a Golf Cup(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). Supports playing the Golf minigame.  #fff014
"The book's knowledge empowers your villagers!" The Advanced Combat Techniques(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or Advanced Combat Techniques: Volume Two(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) items are consumed. The stats of town NPCs are boosted.  #32ff82
"The Traveling Merchant's satchel deepens!" The Peddler's Satchel(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) item is consumed. The number of items sold by the Traveling Merchant increases by 1.  #32ff82
"The license teleports away to the cat delivery service..."
"The license teleports away to the dog delivery service..."
"The license teleports away to the bunny delivery service..."
A Cat(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Dog(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), or Bunny License(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) is consumed, respectively. Allows a Cat(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Dog(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), or Bunny(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) to move into valid housing, respectively.  #32ff82
"A horrible chill goes down your spine..." The player breaks the first, fourth, seventh, etc. Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart. Alerts all players to the breakage (which may be off-screen).  #32ff82
"Screams echo around you..." The player breaks the second, fifth, eighth, etc. Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart.  #32ff82
"A meteorite has landed!" Has a chance after (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) defeating the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu or (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) breaking a Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart. A meteor has crashed into the world.  #32ff82
"The ancient spirits of light and dark have been released." The Wall of Flesh is defeated for the first time. The Hardmode conversion has been finished.  #32ff82
"Your world has been blessed with Cobalt!"
"Your world has been blessed with Mythril!"
"Your world has been blessed with Adamantite!"
"Your world has been blessed with Palladium!"
"Your world has been blessed with Orichalcum!"

An Altar is destroyed. The respective Hardmode ore generates in the world.  #32ff82
"The jungle grows restless..." All three mechanical bosses have been defeated for the first time. Plantera's Bulbs begin spawning in the Underground Jungle.  #32ff82
"Screams are echoing from the dungeon..." Plantera is defeated for the first time. New enemy types begin spawning in the Dungeon.  #32ff82
"Your mind goes numb..." The first of the four Celestial Pillars(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) is destroyed. Alerts all players to the pillar's destruction (which may be off-screen).  #af4bff
"You are overwhelmed with pain..." The second of the four Celestial Pillars is destroyed.
"Otherworldly voices linger around you..." The third of the four Celestial Pillars is destroyed.
"Impending doom approaches..." Either the last of the four Celestial Pillars is destroyed or the player uses a Celestial Sigil(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). Starts the Moon Lord(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) summon countdown.  #32ff82

Trivia

  • In the Mobile version Mobile version, the message "<Name of NPC> would like to settle down" used to display when the requirements for an NPC were fulfilled, but there was no housing for the NPC. This was removed in the 1.3.0.7 update.
  • Although King Slime can spawn naturally, it does not have a special message.
