Advanced Combat Techniques is a consumable item obtained by fishing during a Blood Moon. It can only be used once per world, and others cannot be fished up once one has already been used. However, multiple copies can be obtained until the first is used. The chance of fishing it up when conditions are met is 0.28*1/360 (0.28%) with 50 Fishing Power and 0.56*1/180 (0.56%) with 100 Fishing Power (assuming neither Crate Potion nor Chum Caster is used and that the body of water isn't too small).
On use, it permanently increases the defense of Town NPCs by 6 and attack damage by 20%, similar to the increases after each type of boss is defeated.
When used, the status message "The book's knowledge empowers your villagers!" is displayed.
Notes
- This item has a catch quality of Extremely Rare (See Fishing).
- Different from quest fish, the player can obtain another Advanced Combat Techniques as long as one has not been used, regardless of whether there is already an Advanced Combat Techniques in their inventory.
- Using a Sonar Potion will allow the player to better see when Advanced Combat Techniques has been hooked.
- The effects on NPC damage and defense stack with Advanced Combat Techniques: Volume Two. The two items can be consumed in any order.
