The Extractinator (or Silt Extractinator[1]) is a special crafting station that converts Silt, Slush, and Desert Fossils into various valuable materials such as ores, coins, and gems. On the
Desktop version,
Console version, and
Mobile version, it can also convert Glowing Mosses into any other regular moss, and fishing trash into low level bait.
After being placed, suitable blocks must be consumed using the ⚷ Open / Activate key directly on the Extractinator, and the converted items will be dropped. Extractable blocks are selected automatically from the player's inventory while Auto Select is activated.
It can be obtained from multiple sources, with a 4.9% chance of spawning in Frozen Chests, a 5% to 6.67% chance of spawning in Gold Chests in the Underground and Cavern layers, and a 1.86% chance of being dropped by opening Wooden Crates. Underground Cabins in the Underground Desert(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) also have a chance to contain an Extractinator as part of the random decor.
Feeding blocks to the Extractinator is the only way to obtain Amber Mosquitoes, and, along with opening crates, the only reliable way to obtain a world's alternative pre-Hardmode ores.

Notes
- Despite increasing block placement speed, neither the Builder Potion, Brick Layer, nor Architect Gizmo Pack cause blocks to be processed more quickly. The speed depends solely on the block's use time.[2]
- The world-generated ores appear with equal chances as their alternatives, e.g., the Extractinator produces an equal chance of Gold Ore and Platinum Ore, regardless of which is found underground in that world.
- Unlike crates, the Extractinator will not provide Hardmode ores even if the world is in Hardmode. It will not produce high-tier pre-Hardmode ores such as Demonite, either.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) This can be resolved by upgrading the Extractinator into a Chlorophyte Extractinator.
- 999 Silt or Slush Blocks yield a fair collection of loot. The table below breaks down, prorates, and summarizes the sale prices.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Most of the gems are much more valuable when crafted into Stained Glass: Each gem except Diamond makes 1 GC worth of Stained Glass.
- The gems can also be crafted into Gemcorns, to grow more gems directly.
- Diamonds cannot be turned into Stained Glass or anything else with a higher sale price than the gems.
- Amber can be crafted into Crate Potions, which allow fishing for crate loot worth far more than the Amber's sale price.
- If processing Desert Fossils, the resulting Sturdy Fossils have no sell value themselves, but used in a number of recipes, notably Scarab Bombs(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). Any excess can be turned into Bone Throwing Knives and sold that way.
- Notice how much of the total average payoff comes from the small chance of obtaining Platinum Coins. The total yields are normally 8 GC or 9 GC or so lower, but with a 6%–7% chance per 1000 blocks of a platinum jackpot.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Most of the gems are much more valuable when crafted into Stained Glass: Each gem except Diamond makes 1 GC worth of Stained Glass.

Tips
- If processing a large quantity of blocks, it may be helpful to clear out inventory space (16 or 17 slots) so the rewarded items are not deposited on the ground.
- Extractinators are most commonly found in houses in the Underground Desert(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
- Due to the dangers of the Underground Desert, the lower chances of getting ores/coins/gems (except Amber) and how common Silt is in other biomes, Desert Fossil is a less viable option for getting ores/coins/gems.
Trivia
- The sound that is played when picking up an item is played every time an item is processed, even if the result is not picked up.
History
- Desktop 1.4.4:
- Stack limit increased from 99 to 9999.
- Now used to craft the Chlorophyte Extractinator.
- Can now process junk items and Glowing Mosses.
- Desktop 1.3.0.4: Fixed Extractinator drops appearing weirdly when used in reversed gravity.
- Desktop 1.3.0.1:
- Can now be found in fishing crates.
- Can now process Desert Fossils.
- Desktop 1.2.3: Now only consumes one Silt/Slush Block. Instead of consuming 2 blocks, extractinating has a chance of giving a smaller amount of coin.
- Desktop 1.2: Introduced.
- Console 1.02: Introduced.
- Switch 1.0.711.6: Introduced.
