Iron Ore is a pre-Hardmode ore. It spawns in the Underground and Cavern layers, and occasionally on the surface. Iron Ore also has a small chance to appear as a bonus drop from slimes. It can be obtained from all types of crates.
Its alternate ore counterpart is Lead Ore.

Trivia
- Iron Ore and Lead Ore are the only ores that do not have corresponding chandeliers.
- Real iron is very malleable and susceptible to corrosion, generally making it infeasible for crafting tools. The use of iron in Terraria more closely resembles steel.
