The Void Bag spawning the portal. Notice the purple light emitted from the portal.
The Void Bag is a portable storage item that grants the player access to the Void Vault anywhere. When used, it will summon a temporary portal which lasts for 3 minutes, and pressing ⚷ Open / Activate on the portal opens the player's Void Vault inventory. The Void Bag is never consumed and can be used limitlessly.
Pressing ⚷ Open / Activate on the Void Bag item in the inventory turns it into the Closed Void Bag. Pressing the button again opens the Void Bag again.
When opened, the Void Vault storage will effectively act as the player's secondary inventory, which automatically stores items collected after the player's main inventory is full, indicated by a purple mask on the pickup text. Additionally, it also allows the player to interact with the items inside it as if they were in the main inventory without opening the Void Vault storage interface.
When closed, the Void Bag functions similarly to the Money Trough, only acting as a regular portable storage item. This will prevent it from picking up items when the player has a full inventory, and it loses the function of the secondary inventory.

Notes
- The color for the mask on the pickup text is

- An opened Void Bag will act effectively as the player's secondary inventory, which inherits the following functions:
- The Void Bag is only obtainable after defeating Skeletron, as its crafting recipe requires Bones, which drop from enemies in the Dungeon.
- However, defeating the Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu is not necessary: While summoning the boss at least once is required, Shadow Scales or Tissue Samples can be obtained by merely destroying a few segments of the Eater of Worlds or a few Creepers, respectively; the boss does not have to be defeated.
- In a drunk world, it is obtainable before defeating Skeletron, as Dungeon enemies can spawn prior to defeating the boss.
- The Void Bag will not pick up quest fish if the player's inventory is full or contains another quest fish of the same type. However, the fish can still be placed inside the Void Vault manually, and any quest fish already within the Void Vault will not prevent the player from picking up another in their inventory.
- The Void Bag will not let the player use its bait with a fishing pole. The bait must be in the player's main inventory for them to fish with it.
- The Void Bag will not pick up Etherian Mana, but it can be placed into the Void Vault manually or via Quick Stack.
Trivia
The earlier version of the Void Bag's portal.
- Earlier versions of the Void Bag during development had a dark purple portal, more resembling the portals from the Potion of Return in the current game.
- The Void Bag's portal is known internally as
VoidLens
