The Eye Bone is a pet-summoning item that spawns Chester, a mobile Piggy Bank, to follow the player. Chester, being a pet, is essentially an upgrade to the Money Trough as it follows the player and does not require repeated summons. The Eye Bone has a 1/3 (33.33%) chance of being dropped by Deerclops.

Tips

  • Using a Void Bag with Chester will result in the player possessing three inventories simultaneously instead of the usual one.
  • The Eye Bone and the Money Trough are both portable versions of the Piggy Bank, but the Eye Bone is arguably better because it can be placed in the pet slot to conserve inventory space.
    • Unlike the Money Trough, Chester is permanently out and follows the player, allowing for quick and easy item and coin transfer by simply using the "Quick Stack to Nearby Chests" inventory function.
    • Chester can cause problems for Console version Console players, however. It is typically close enough that the ⚷ Open / Activate button defaults to opening it; and with default controller layouts, this button is also the Grapple button. Chester can thus interfere with Console players' hooks.

  • Chester is the only pet in the game with a practical function other than lighting.
  • The Eye Bone's tooltip is a reference to Wendy's examination quote for the Eye Bone in Don't Starve.
  • Chester's buff tooltip is a reference to Wilson's examination quote for Chester in Don't Starve.
  • Chester resembles The Luggage from the comic fantasy novel series Discworld.
  • The sound of Chester opening and closing is very similar to the sound made when the player's inventory is opened () and closed ().
