The Dog Whistle is a pet-summoning item that spawns a Puppy to follow the player around. When the player is far enough away or in midair, it flies by twirling its tail like a propeller to catch up to them. The Dog Whistle can be dropped from Presents obtained during the Christmas seasonal event, with a chance of 29/12,000 (0.24%) in pre-Hardmode and 203/90,000 (0.23%) in Hardmode.

Trivia

  • The Dog Whistle can be seen as the Christmas counterpart to the Unlucky Yarn, a pet-summoning item that drops from Goodie Bags during Halloween and summons a pet kitten.
  • This item may be a possible reference to An All Dogs Christmas Carol, a 1998 direct-to-video Christmas movie that prominently features a magic dog whistle.
  • A real-life dog whistle is a type of whistle that emits ultrasonic sound that humans cannot hear but certain animals can, including domestic dogs and cats.
