The Witch's Broom is a Hardmode, post-Plantera mount-summoning item that summons a rideable Witch's Broom, allowing the player to fly and hover indefinitely in any direction. The Witch's Broom is dropped by the Mourning Wood in Expert Mode with a 1/20 (5%)1/5 (20%) chance depending on the current wave.

Notes

  • The broom mount behaves similarly to the UFO mount from the Cosmic Car Key, with the same vertical speed and faster horizontal speed. Unlike the UFO mount, the player can still ride the broom in liquids.
    • The broom mount has a top speed of 46 mph when flying horizontally and 41 mph when flying vertically. When flying diagonally, however, it can reach 62 mph at maximum. When in liquids, the speed is reduced to 23 mph when flying horizontally and 21 mph when flying vertically, 26 mph when flying downward diagonally, and 31 mph when flying upward diagonally, respectively. However, when in Merfolk form granted by Neptune's Shell, Moon Shell or Celestial Shell, the broom acts like it is not submerged in liquid.
      • Because of this, one can fly at the same speed as, if not faster, than the Dungeon Guardian (41 mph consistently).
  • The broom's hitbox is the same size as the player: 2 by 3 tiles, so unlike the UFO mount, the broom can fit through doorways making the Rod of Discord less essential for traversal.
  • The broom cannot fly downwards through "bottom" platforms (that is, hammered to the lower half of the block), and will instead bounce off them. Other platforms can be passed downward with only a slight delay.
  • Falling from maximum speed and mounting the broom allows it to fly at 51 mph.
  • Similarly, it is possible to fall from a height at max speed and then mount the broom and fly diagonally. This reaches a speed of 66 mph.
  • The lantern hanging from the front of the broom also provides a small amount of light.

Tips

  • When using this mount, it may be useful to replace accessories such as any wings or boots.
  • While they lack infinite flight time (unless the Soaring Insignia(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) is equipped), using wings with hovering abilities in tandem with Lightning, Frostspark, or Terraspark Boots can provide more speed and mobility.
  • Using wings with a fast ascent speed such as Fishron Wings, it is possible to fly upwards with the wings, deploy the mount and maintain the speed of the wings beyond the duration of the wings.
  • The mobility of this mount and the ability to use items while riding it makes it a good mount for construction.
  • This mount can be considered better than the Cosmic Car Key in certain scenarios, because it can be obtained earlier in Expert Mode worlds, and can fly through liquids. It also has a smaller hitbox than the Cosmic Car Key, letting the player go through doors while mounted.

Trivia

  • It is the only Expert Mode-exclusive item to be dropped by an event boss.
    • It is also the only dropped Expert Mode-exclusive item to not be obtained in a Treasure Bag (excluding Treasure Bags themselves).
