Obsidian armor is a pre-Hardmode summoner armor set consisting of the Obsidian Outlaw Hat, Obsidian Longcoat, and Obsidian Pants. Crafting a full set requires a total of 60 Obsidian, 30 Silk, and 20 Shadow Scales or Tissue Samples.

Notes

  • Defeating the Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu is not strictly necessary to craft the set, as the ingredients are dropped during the fight. It can be crafted after killing an average of 9 Creepers or 27 Eater of Worlds segments.
  • Despite being made from Obsidian, this armor set grants no special protection against the On Fire! or Burning debuffs.
  • The whip speed from its set bonus stacks multiplicatively with melee speed bonuses.

Trivia

  • This set's boost to whip damage is possibly a reference to cowboys often being depicted with whips, as this armor is themed around a wild west outlaw.
  • The internal names of the Obsidian Outlaw Hat and Longcoat are "ObsidianHelm" and "ObsidianShirt", which may signify that the original designs looked more like traditional armor pieces. These could also just be placeholder names.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.4:
    • Tooltips of summon-related items now say "summon damage" instead of "minion damage".
    • Whip range bonus reduced from 50% to 30%
    • Whip speed bonus reduced from 35% to 15%
  • Desktop 1.4.1.2:
    • Reduced the minion damage bonus on the helmet and legs from 9% to 8% each.
    • Reduced the minion damage increase on the set bonus from 25% to 15%.
    • Reduced the whip speed increase on the set bonus from 50% to 35%.
  • Desktop 1.4.1:
    • Now a summoner set, with stat boosts on every piece and a new set bonus focused around whips.
    • Increased defense of the Obsidian Longcoat and Obsidian Pants by 1 each.
    • Crafting station changed from Loom to Hellforge.
    • Crafting recipe changed to include 20 Tissue Samples or Shadow Scales.
