Informational accessories are accessories that display unique information when equipped or held in the player's inventory or an open Void Bag. There are currently no informational accessories in the Nintendo 3DSNintendo 3DS version version, except the Depth Meter, which is non-functional.

Almost all informational accessories are components of either the Shellphone(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or The Grand Design(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). These completed items are still "informational items", but they can no longer be slotted as accessories. Informational items will still display the same information from the main inventory as their respective accessory components, the PDA(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Mechanical Lens(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).

                                                  Notes

                                                  • Unlike most accessories, informational accessories do not need to be equipped in an accessory slot. They may be carried in the player's inventory or Void Bag without loss of functionality (other than modifiers).
                                                    • The PDA(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and its components can also be placed in social slots without losing functionality, and their info is shared with players of the same team in multiplayer that are within 50 tiles.
                                                  • The only accessories that are not components in other recipes are the low-/mid-tier watches, as a Gold/Platinum Watch is required for the GPS.
                                                  • All of these accessories can be obtained before Hardmode, but crafting the Shellphone(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) will require a great deal of exploration (and Angler quests).
                                                  • On the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, the Ruler does not function as an informational accessory.
