Solar Flare armor is a Hardmode, post-Moon Lord melee armor set consisting of the Solar Flare Helmet, Solar Flare Breastplate, and Solar Flare Leggings. Crafting the full set requires a total of 36 Luminite Bars (144 Luminite) and 45 Solar Fragments.
The full set grants the following effects while equipped:
- +78 defense
- +12% damage reduction
- +29% melee damage
- +26% melee critical strike chance
- +15% melee speed
- +900 aggro
- +15% movement speed
- +3 HP/second health regeneration
- Grants the Solar Blaze buff, which builds the longer the player avoids taking damage, gaining up to a maximum of three charges. Each charge takes 3 seconds to build and provides +20% damage reduction regardless of charge count. The number of charges built is indicated by a shield that appears in front of the player, with two and three spikes appearing on the shield, corresponding with the charge count.
- Taking damage will cause one charge to deplete, creating solar explosions around the player. While there is at least one charge built, the player can activate a special dash attack by double-tapping either the ◀ Left or ▶ Right key. If the dash strikes an enemy, a charge is consumed, and enemies hit during the dash will be damaged and cause a fire explosion (every enemy hit takes damage twice). The dash has a 1-second cooldown.
- Each piece equipped (even if hidden by vanity items) causes the player to emit light, with a higher light level for each additional piece equipped. Additionally, equipping the full set causes the player to emit pulses and afterimages while moving.

Notes
- Fire explosions have a base damage of 150 and deal a base knockback of 15 (Insane) (which is only affected by melee damage bonuses). The dash attack also has a base damage of 150 and deals a base knockback of 9 (Very strong) (which is affected by melee damage bonuses, melee critical strike bonuses, and knockback bonuses from Titan Glove and Titan Potion).[1]
- Both of these cannot receive debuff bonuses from Flasks or Hellfire bonus from the Magma Stone or its upgrades.
- Holding the Psycho Knife will increase the damage of fire explosions and dash attack, and also increase the critical strike chance of the dash attack.
- Taking fall damage also triggers the explosion discharge and consumes one charge.
- The dash causes the player to move at 52 mph.
- This dash will cause the player to move 11 mph faster than the Dungeon Guardian and 1 mph faster than the dash of Biome Mimics when the player is too far away.
- The dash effect of the armor overrides the dash effect of the Tabi, Master Ninja Gear, and Shield of Cthulhu accessories.
- The Endurance Potion, Frozen Turtle Shell, and Worm Scarf's damage reduction can stack with this armor.
- The Solar Blaze buff tooltip still displays "Damage taken reduced by 30%" even though the actual effect is 20%.
- The shield can also be dyed using the chest dye slot.
- Like all armors made from Luminite, equipping Solar Flare armor makes the player emit light, in this case, red. Light radius increases with the number of pieces equipped.
Tips
- In comparison to Beetle armor, Solar Flare armor provides slightly more defense than Beetle armor with the Beetle Shell. While the damage reduction of Beetle armor is higher, the 12% damage reduction from Solar Flare armor's set bonus stacks with some other buffs. It can almost reach the damage reduction levels of Beetle armor this way: With Endurance, Ice Barrier, and the Worm Scarf, Beetle armor offers at most 73.6% damage reduction, while Solar Flare armor offers 71.2%, which is only 2.4 percentage points less.
Trivia
- Solar Flare armor essentially combines the effects of Turtle armor (damage reflection), Beetle armor (damage reduction), and the Shield of Cthulhu (dash).
- A solar flare is a sudden increase of brightness on the Sun. More powerful flares are then followed by a coronal mass ejection, which is a significant release of plasma from the Sun's surface.
