Not to be confused with Clothier Voodoo Doll, which allows the player to harm the Clothier rather than the Guide (and re-summon Skeletron).

The Guide Voodoo Doll is a boss-summoning item used to summon the Wall of Flesh. It is a guaranteed drop from Voodoo Demons, a fairly rare enemy in the Underworld.

If the item is dropped and destroyed by lava in the Underworld, the Guide will instantly die and the Wall of Flesh will be summoned. The Guide must be alive for this process to occur. If the item is destroyed by lava elsewhere, the Guide will die as normal but the boss will not be summoned.

On the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, if more than one Guide Voodoo Doll is in a stack upon being destroyed by lava, other NPCs will be killed alongside the Guide depending on the amount within the stack. However, the Wall of Flesh will only be summoned once.

When the Guide Voodoo Doll is equipped as an accessory, it becomes possible for the player and other NPCs to kill the Guide with direct attacks from weapons (which normally would not damage him).

The Guide Voodoo Doll cannot be reforged, and therefore cannot have modifiers.

Notes

  • Only one Wall of Flesh can be summoned at once. Even if a new Guide moves in while the Wall of Flesh is still alive, throwing another Guide Voodoo Doll into lava will not summon the boss a second time.
  • The direction in which the Wall of Flesh moves is determined by where the Guide Voodoo Doll is destroyed. If to the left of the world center (the player's initial world spawn point at the start of the game), the boss sweeps from left to right, and vice versa.
  • On the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, the Guide Voodoo Doll is not required to summon the Wall of Flesh. It can also be summoned by directly killing the Guide via submerging him in lava in the Underworld.
  • If a dropped Guide Voodoo Doll lands on a player who is standing in lava, it will sometimes be collected while also summoning the Wall of Flesh, making it reusable.Verify

  • In popular culture, a voodoo doll is a figurine resembling a person, which can be harmed in order to magically inflict harm on the person being mimicked.
  • The tooltip could be a reference to a quote from the character GLaDOS from the 2011 puzzle-platforming game Portal 2.
  • Before the Wall of Flesh is defeated, several NPCs sometimes make references to the doll's function:
    • Arms Dealer: "I heard there is a doll that looks very similar to <name of Guide> somewhere in the underworld. I'd like to put a few rounds in it."
    • Nurse: "I need to have a serious talk with <name of Guide>. How many times a week can you come in with severe lava burns?"
    • Guide: "When you are ready to challenge the keeper of the underworld, you will have to make a living sacrifice. Everything you need for it can be found in the underworld."
  • Its old sprite appears on the icons of these following buffs and debuffs:
  • The Guide Voodoo Doll is one of only four pre-Hardmode boss-summoning items that cannot be crafted. The others are the Clothier Voodoo Doll, Suspicious Looking Egg(3DS version), and the Cursed stuffing(3DS version).
  • In the 1.2 Mobile version Mobile version, the Guide Voodoo Doll can be directly consumed in the inventory to summon the Wall of Flesh, just like other consumable boss-summoning items.
