The Fisherman's Pocket Guide is an informational accessory that displays the player's current Fishing Power.

The Fisherman's Pocket Guide can be received as a 1/34 (2.94%)[1] chance reward for completing a fishing quest for the Angler NPC, depending on the number of completed quests and other factors (see Angler § Quest rewards for details). The Angler will not give the player a Fisherman's Pocket Guide as a reward if they already have one in their inventory or in any of their portable storage items or loadouts. However, if the player has all of the Angler's fishing and informational accessories[2] (or their upgrades like the Angler Tackle Bag and Fish Finder) in their inventories, this rule will be ignored.[1]

Notes

  • Unlike most accessories, informational accessories such as the Fisherman's Pocket Guide do not need to be equipped in an accessory slot. The Fisherman's Pocket Guide may be carried in the player's inventory without loss of functionality (other than modifiers), unless equipped to a social slot. Additionally, the info it provides will be shared with players of the same team in multiplayer that are within 50 tiles.
  • The Fisherman's Pocket Guide, Weather Radio, and Sextant are interchangeable via Shimmer.
  • If the player uses a Truffle Worm as bait, it instead displays "Warning!".
  • If the player is fishing in a pool of liquid which is below the required number of tiles in order for fishing to work (75 for water & lava, 50 for honey), it will display the message "Not Enough Water!", regardless of the type of liquid.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.4:
    • Now used to craft the Sextant via Shimmer.
    • The Angler no longer checks fishing and informational accessories separately to duplicate items.
  • Desktop 1.4.0.5: Fixed a bug where RNG would make the fishing power display vary wildly.
  • Desktop 1.4.0.1:
    • Angler quest reward chance increased.
    • The Angler will no longer give you duplicate informational accessories, unless you already have all of them.

Note that the actual base drop rate is actually slightly less than 1/34 (2.94%), because numerous other rewards are rolled before this item is. The real drop rate will also be affected by other factors, as discussed in-depth at Angler § Quest rewards.
