Wings
“Have you seen the Wyverns soaring high up in the clouds? If only I could fly like that...
—
The Guide
Wings are accessories that allow the player to fly temporarily by pressing and holding the ↷ Jump key. They also provide immunity to fall damage. After flight time has run out, holding the ↷ Jump key allows the player to glide, slowing falling speed. Flight time resets when the player stands, climbs (e.g. using Rope or Shoe Spikes), or hooks onto a block. Flight is much more controlled with wings than with Rocket Boots and the like, and they allow for much greater flight range. The player can only equip one set of wings at a time.
Equipping wings generally replaces jumps entirely with flight, rather than requiring a double-jump to activate. Extra jump accessories like the Cloud in a Bottle will still grant an additional jump, which can be used to instantly boost the wing to full speed upon reactivation in midair.
Certain wing types also allow the player to hover at fixed heights by holding the ▼ Down key during flight, and/or accelerate their ascent speed by holding the ▲ Up key.
Types
There is a total of 47 unique wing types.
All wings can be sold for 8 GC, except for the Leaf Wings (30 GC), Steampunk Wings (60 GC) and Fledgling Wings (4 SC).

- All wings work in water.
- Some jump boost accessories stack with wings to boost flight (see table).
- Wings hidden by the accessory visibility toggle will not display while inactive, but always show while flying.
- The horizontal speed of any midair jumps (such as the Cloud in a Bottle) are greatly decreased when the player wears wings alongside them.
- Wings in vanity slots do not emit light.
- Dyes can change the color of the particle effects created by wings, but cannot change the color of the light emitted by them.
- Gliding fall speed can be accelerated by holding the ▼ Down key.

The player is jumping from the Sand into the water.
Achievements

Tips
- An Ice Rod can be used to lay blocks of ice to land in midair, making it possible to remain in the air indefinitely.
- The Expert Mode-exclusive Soaring Insignia enables infinite flight.
- The slow-fall effect of Featherfall Potions or an Umbrella stacks with wing glide, allowing for very long glides after flight time has been exhausted.
- The maximum flight distance of about 1400 tiles can be achieved using the Bundle of Balloons, Frog Leg, Solar Wings, Frostspark Boots, Flying Carpet, and Featherfall Potion. More can be achieved by using the Umbrella. Verify
- Several wings can be obtained early on in Hardmode:
- Harpy Wings require a bit of luck when farming Harpies. Fortunately, Wyverns spawn at the same altitude, so when a Giant Harpy Feather drops, the odds are good that 20 Souls of Flight will already have been collected. The Giant Harpy Feather can also be collected during pre-Hardmode.
- Frozen Wings are crafted from an Ice Feather, dropped by Ice Golems. Players who intend to obtain Frost armor or the Cool Whip will be farming Ice Golems for Frost Cores, and have a good chance of acquiring an Ice Feather in the process.
- Fairy Wings are relatively easy to obtain as Pixie Dust is a common drop from Pixies. They are a reliable choice of wings should the player get unlucky with Giant Harpy Feather or Ice Feather drops.
- Angel and Demon Wings require 15 of either Soul of Light or Soul of Night. The souls can easily be acquired by staying long enough in Underground Hallow or Underground Corruption/Underground Crimson, since all enemies killed have a chance to drop the respective biome's soul.
- Fledgling Wings can be obtained pre-Hardmode, however, they lack in mobility compared to Hardmode wings.
- Better, stronger wings become available as the player progresses. Some easy to obtain or good options include:
- Jetpack after defeating one mechanical boss.
- Leaf Wings, Hoverboard, and Spectre Wings after defeating Plantera.
- Spooky Wings and Festive Wings from Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon, respectively.
- Steampunker Wings after defeating Golem.
- Betsy's Wings, Empress Wings, Fishron Wings have great stats, but all of these require defeating challenging boss or event.
Trivia
- Dyeing Red's Wings in combination with Hermes Boots or any of its upgrades will change the color of the smoke below the player.
- Prior to 1.3.0.1(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Red's Wings would allow the wearer to fly infinitely and faster than any other wings if the player managed to obtain them through inventory editors.
- Ghostar's Infinity Eight's name comes from the Infinity Eight in the series of single-player action role-playing games .hack//G.U.. Their appearance resembles the sword-wings of the Avatar Skeith in its Xth Form. Its tooltip, "I am right here," is used throughout the .hack//G.U. games.
- Despite having no animation, Ghostar's Infinity Eight and Arkhalis' Lightwings both produce flapping noises.
