The Putrid Scent is a Hardmode accessory. When equipped, it will increase damage and critical strike chance by 5%, as well as decreases aggro by 400.
It has a 20*1/5 (20%) chance to drop from Corrupt Mimics, which can be found in the Underground Corruption or summoned by putting the Key of Night in a chest in a Corrupt world.
It is unrelated to the Stinky debuff.

Tips
- This accessory proves exceptionally useful in multiplayer with a "tank" player and a player who focuses on DPS. If the player focusing on DPS equips the Putrid Scent or its upgrades along with Shroomite or Vortex armor while the "tank" equips Turtle armor, Beetle armor, or Solar Flare armor, enemies will be much, much more likely to target the "tank", greatly increasing the survivability of the other player. If the Flesh Knuckles and its upgrades are available, they can further concentrate fire on the tank, but this requires access to a world with the Crimson.
- This accessory provides an average damage bonus comparable to the Avenger Emblem, while being available at the start of Hardmode. If the class emblem is unavailable, the player is not playing a single class, or in a multiplayer scenario where one may want to fully focus on offense, this is one of the best options at the start of Hardmode.
- However, the bonus is greatly reduced for summoners, since summoning weapons are not affected by the current critical strike chance of the player.
Trivia
- The Putrid Scent is the Corruption counterpart to The Crimson's Flesh Knuckles, since it increases damage dealt and decreases aggro range, while the Flesh Knuckles decrease damage received and increase aggro range.
- None of the items crafted from it retain the critical strike and damage bonus.
